Love the recipe ideas, but my favorite tip from this video is the macrame Ikea bag for the canning rings. When I first got out of high school, I worked at a grocery store (40 years or so ago it was a small store with good customer service). There was an elderly lady that would always come through my line to check out because I would pay attention to her (I think she had Parkinson's, her speech was hard to understand). She reminded me of my great grandma. She had made herself similar bags, and I commented on how nice they were. She came in one day with a bag she had made for me. I have always treasured that bag, but haven't found a good use for it. Now I know what I am doing with it, canning rings! Thanks!
When I made cranberry juice I just used my food mill after cooking them a bit and then took the cranberry pulp, dehydrated it and then turned it into powder. That way I can easily add to a smoothie and get the benefits from it.
For the last 2 years, I've helped harvest my friends cranberry bogs hear in MA.This year I brought home four 5 gallon buckets of berries and made lots of cranberry juice the old way by hanging the cooked berries over a pot to drip. I then use the cranberry pulp to make maple cranberry butter and cranberry ketchup.
Oh my, that all sounds delicious! The 'old way' of making juice has me intrigued. Would you mind sharing that process or pointing me to a source? Thank you!
You are such an inspiration to me. Found 6 packs of cranberries on sale for .99 cents a bag. Made 12 quarts of cranberry juice per your instructions. Such a delicious treat to ward off UTIs.
I started making this recipe last year and is it ever good! We like to combine the cranberry juice with our own pressed apple juice for a great flavor❤. Yummo!

I use a steam juicer and can quarts of concentrated cranberry juice. When it is time to use it I pour in a quart of concentrate and one bottle white grape fizzy water. Yum! Love your curls.
I opened a jar of my cranberry juice that I made last month. It’s very tasty! I used 1/4c sugar per pint, 1/2c per quart. I will make this again and again! Thank you!
I did it this way the first time, the juice is absolutely delicious! Then I got my steam juicer, then I didn’t have to strain the berries off. After the steam juicing was done, then I dehydrated the berries; used them as a snack or use them in baked goods. They were still so full of flavor.
I am definitely making some cranberry honey! We love dipping our cranberries into white almond bark with a drop or 2 of orange oil. Everywhere we bring it, it goes quickly.
Freeze your cranberries first. It reduces the pectin. 24oz of cranberries 10cups of water and 3cups of sugar. Simmer for 25 minutes, steep for 30, then strain. Then you can use the cranberry pulp for fruit leather or powder. You can waterbath can it after. This juice is ready to go now. No need to wait.
Hi Rachel, I don't know if you've heard of D-Mannose, it's made partly from cranberry sugars, among other plant sugars. I use it to kick those bad UTIs out when I feel even the beginnings of one. I usually will start taking one pill 3x a day, and go up to 4x a day, if I feel it's a bad one. That is about 2500-3000 mg daily until the UTI is gone. This is a natural remedy, and it works!! I got my D-Mannose at Piping Rock, but it's pretty easy to find in most drugstores. Just one more remedy in the arsenal...🌻
Aaahhhh, the plight of the rings! I have hand knit market bags, totes in the basement, a couple of bungies, and some in a drawer. So many rings! I have started throwing away any rings that resist being screwed down...
@HeatherDoesItAll Oh, The way the video shows, I would guess that the cranberries have done their job and ready for discard because they havent been cooked and softened. I only make cranberry sauce where the berries are cooked to a thick sauce like jam and the berries are soft to eat.
I can't wait for the update on the ferment. I'm up in Canada and I don't think I've ever seen cranberries on sale but I'll sure look for some after Christmas.
We just opened a jar of ours. It did not disappoint! My son ate the fruit. LOL! I personally didn't try the fruit because it gets mushy and I have texture issues. We're so bad because we should have waited until the 7th but we couldn't help ourselves. It is delicious. We did a 1 and 1/2 cups of cranberries, a half cup of frozen blueberries and 1/3 cup of sugar. Also one tbsp of lemon juice to each quart jar. I am going to be making a second batch of it this weekend.
i made a wooden ring holder with dowels. I need to do this bevause i get constant utis from a kidney disease! Thank you! Im in Michigan too! Havent left the house in 6 days. We got 25 inches of snow and getting more. i live near Gaylord
I freeze several bags and throughout the winter months I cook them down with frozen blueberries and a couple chopped apples. I eat it straight from the bowl , warm or cold.
Perfect timing! I just bought 12 bags at 49 cents. I don't need 20 jars of cranberry sauce, lol 😂❤ And I definitely like this method better than the cook and smash and strain method.
Just a forewarning, the fermented cranberries will bubble lots, put your jars in bowls. Lol. Learned this the hard way. They are delicious! Favorite way to preserve them.
Helpful video. Thank you. I've been meaning to do this, too. I have a question about steam bathing: can we not use our pressure canner for this as well? I was thinking that it should be possible, right?
This is how I make mine and I love it, definitely wait the 6 weeks till you try them. I use as much sugar as you do and this, to me is a consintrate. I have to add water to mine. Then I take the fruit and smoosh them and make fruit leather with it. I hope you like it as much as we do.
I have a basket and a box I have for small and large rings, in my utility closet which is right next to my kitchen and where I keep other canning supplies.
I will be trying the honey and cranberries. I ferment lemon and ginger and blueberries in honey and use for my tea daily. You should try that too. Have a terrific day. Cheers from New Brunswick Canada
You could also steam juice the cranberries! You could add about 1/4 cup of organic flavored juice per quart jar. Like blueberry, cherry, pineapple, etc. This list is endless.
I purchase 5 bags last year after thanksgiving ro make juice and they sat in the freezer until a few weeks back. I needed more sauce so I made cranberry sauce and Christmas jam. Im hoping to find more berries on sale. i still want to make some juice
Thank you. I canned cranberry juice many years ago to put on my shelf but realized this couldn’t be used for a UTI since it has sugar in it so I made a quart of cranberry tincture just for UTI’s. I love your idea of fermenting the cranberries but at this time local raw honey is very expensive and I have none..I wonder if maybe the cranberries in capsules is just plain dehydrated cranberries that are powdered and then put into capsules🤔 this would be a more cost effective for me..thanks for this video because it does make you think outside of the box making me think of dehydrating cranberries and powdered them for a straight un-deluted way to use them straight since I already have the capsule machine and capsules.

Would it have been an option to loosen up the honey in a double boiler without boiling the honey to make it easier to pour? Or is that not an option if you want to ferment?
I’m excited to ferment the cranberries. I put several bags of cranberries in my freezer. I had raw honey that began to ferment and I was told to put it in the freezer to stop it. I’m wondering if I could use that honey? When it fermented, it made a huge gooey mess in my cupboard. Are you putting something under your ferment?

I never find cranberries on sale like that here. The best price I found was $2 a bag and I snagged several. When I can juice like that I use 1 1/2 - 2 cups of berries per quart, 1 cup yields weak juice. A delicious treat is a fresh cranberry on a toothpick dipped in caramel dip. Sooo yummy!

I keep my rings sorted and put on cheap paper towel holders. Works great!
I have to store mine in my semi moist cellar, so I put them in gallon ziploc bags so they don’t rust.
Finally an easy recipe for cranberry juice THANK YOU ❤

Cranberries freeze really well in their bagged state. But now, can after the holidays. 😂

Rachel- did you try your fermented cranberries?
I wanted to pick up some extra cranberries when I was at the at the store yesterday; they were 2/$5! Needless to say, they are still at the store!
You could warm the honey slightly to bring it back to a more liquid state. Just not over 104°

Did your sugar all dissolve? Or did stay on the bottom of the jar?
I love the voice over for ginger, not garlic. I'm still laughing.
Do you put a lid on top of the ferment or just pickle weights?
Both.
I keep my rings in bulk rice bags 😆
