    OK, so this is like the third time I have watched this video and it just keeps getting better and better. You guys are living the life right now. Kevin, you and Jaime have a special relationship. Work hard and play hard, country music, fishin', Swingin' in the barn, life doesn't get any better. Thanks so much for sharing with us.....

    @17:20 One of the Best camera set ups I've ever seen in aviation. I could see the runway and read all of dials in detail at the same time. Captain Moonbeam matched this quality once in a Caravan but said it was all luck. Shawn & Jon have some great setups, Steveo, Premier1 and of course the legendary Flight Chops deserve mention.

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I agree, the guys you mentioned are amazing with their ability to film, fly and edit. Maybe one day I'll get there. :) I agree with Moonbeam in that it is luck sometimes. I've toyed with different settings and locations to try to get clear interior and exterior shots and it's tough. A lot of it has to do with the moisture in the air and sun angle. We'll keep plugging away and see where it goes.

    Wow that plane must be very light to be able to push it back by yourself with no help. When I was in the Navy working on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier, every now and then while lining up on the catapult for launch. a pilot would overshoot the cat shuttle and we would have to do a pushback. Depending on the aircraft, it took anywhere between 50 and 100 guys to push one of those heavy military jets back. The F-14 Tomcat at 61,000 lbs loaded was by far the heaviest aircraft we had onboard.

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Ron, it is only about 5300 lbs loaded. It is a bit too heavy for me to push back on my own. I have a motorized tug I use at my hangar. This day I just swung close to the grass and used differential power to turn tight into the spot without having to push it back. Thanks for watching and more importantly thank you for your service!!

  • @cgulden
    @cgulden 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I forget which video it was, but as you were backing the plane into the hanger, the right wing did some rubbing on the wall. Bet that bit a little.

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Knock on wood, I've never touched anything with the plane. The camera angle may have made it look that way though. I'm really careful to stay on the painted lines to make sure that doesn't happen. I fast forward those sometimes and it may have look that way.

    Cool channel!
    I got my ME training in a C-310D back in 1987, at a flight school in South Carolina. It was a hoot--and I had a lot of fun learning to fly multi-engine aircraft in that thing. Then I took my ME checkride in it, in Columbia SC, after dark...because the examiner was pissed we were late for the ride...because the other student that day absolutely blew his ride several hours earlier in the afternoon. Then he was literally bawling, so we had to fly him back to the little flight school out in the sticks about 30 minutes south of Columbia. Needless to say the examiner wasn't at all happy we were 2-3 hours late, and I got the oral and flight test of my life. Multiple missed approaches, a couple on a single engine. Multiple Vmc demonstrations as well. Yeah, that was fun. Did I mention he was also a check airman in the SC National Guard? I think he was a Lt Col or maybe a full bird. He was pissed, lol.
    Thankfully I had just gotten my CFII a week or so before that, so I was very proficient on the IFR regs, as well and flying IMC. Otherwise it would have been a bloodbath. I thought he'd fail me but he didn't. What a checkride. Glad I wasn't in the military about then. Your 310 has an awesome panel though--much nicer than we had in that old beaten-down 310D back in the day.

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment and glad you're enjoying the channel Tom! Pretty cool you did your ME in a 310. I did mine in a dog of a Seneca 1 down in Georgia...they don't climb on one in the heat very well. :)

    • @bluehornet6752
      @bluehornet6752 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure they don't, lol.
      That checkride is the only time I think I've ever done a full missed-approach on one engine, and we did it twice. Once was an ILS, but the second time was an NDB approach. At least he didn't make me actually feather the engine though...although maybe he would have if it would have been daytime?
      It's eerie though flying into an airport you've never been into before, when it's a pitch-black night. No moon hardly at all, and me trying to find a single-runway airport in the middle Columbia SC. Quite the experience that I've never forgotten to this day.
      What model 310 is yours? I owned an Aztec for about 8-9 years, but worked on it far more than I flew it. It definitely helps to have an A&P ticket when you buy one of those older twins, because you're going to have to fix some things.

      Howdy Peter! I usually plan longer trips a couple days in advance. I pick destinations and fuel stops if needed based on fuel/parking fees. Sometimes we just take off with a destination in mind and pick a spot while flying to grab a bit or stretch our legs. Just depends. I use ForeFlight for all that planning. 2500 feet or more as long as it's not real hot or obstructions right off the end. Otherwise it may go up to 3000+. The virus has slowed up the painting process unfortunately...hopefully just a couple more weeks!

    Haven't seen ya for awhile, glad you had time to do another video. You nailed the landing buddy, very nice and smooth. That was a really nice farm with lots to do after the work is done, lol. Two great landings, thank you again for sharing and take care.

      Sorry for the delay, been a busy few weeks. I have another video I'm going to start editing now. Hopefully I'll get it up in a week or so and will do a better job of regular updates. Thanks about the landings, in my next video you'll see the worse landing I've done in many many years. It wasn't hard but I actually bounced it a bit...not easy to do in a heavy twin. :) There is always a lot to do at the farm but I love helping out and of course the fishing/hunting!

I might have been past the farm a bunch of time in my journeys . just never knew it .. but it sure is nice to see someone come over this way by air .. It seems like you always land with the mixtures back. Shouldn't they be forward (along with the props) in case of a go around? Maybe the 310 is different from all the other light twins I've flown.

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is another each their own kind of thing with flying. Mike Busch is a well known A&P that writes for EAA, AOPA and others....owns a 310 as well. Read this article if you have time on operating big bore continentals. www.avweb.com/news/airman/184350-1.html
      This is from the article reference the mixtures/props during landing:
      "Every POH I've ever read instructs you to advance the mixture to full-rich on final prior to landing. Don't do it! Pouring cold fuel on a hot cylinder head simply can't be a good thing for cylinder longevity. I recommend leaving the mixture leaned out for landing and taxi. I also recommend setting the props to top-of-the-green RPM, not shoving them full forward the way the POH instructs. Of course, if you have to make a go-around or a missed approach, don't forget to advance the mixture and prop controls before throttling up to full power."

      It is nice with her on the radios freeing me up to correct bone headed mistakes like the avionics master. :) His runway is about 1400 ft I believe. He has a 172 in the hangar and I've flown that in and out of there before. It's perfect for that but I'd need it another 1000-1200 feet to be comfy in my plane.

    Nice job, again. Brings me back. Been into Monroe a few times. Was hoping to see you land in the grass. How long is your buddy`s strip? Can you get it into Brodhead? The P 51 from UES has been in there. (I`ve got a story about that) Beautiful country in western Wisconsin. I did a lot of 150 mph skimming the corn. Good fun. Gotta watch for wires. RV-4`s are good at that.

      Thank you! I have landed in the grass at Gaston's Arkansas. It's 3200 ft down there and a great place to go if you haven't been. I've flow my buddies 172 in and out of his farm but at around 1400 ft it's a bit short for me....especially when it's 90+ degrees like that day. :) I agree, western Wisconsin is pretty...lot's of hills compared to IL.
