A HUGE thanks for all the vids. My '01 TJ needed some frame love, and I was aware of the issue when I bought it (the price was right). Seller assumed it would be $1500-1800 to repair both rails. After seeing your vids, I purchased the parts AND welder/tools for less than $600 and did the job myself. I'm not NEAR the pro like you, but it looks good and I saved big $$. Most of all, it's safe and will be a long-lasting repair. Rock on, brother.
The larger diameter spring perch is used when hitting big bumps to catch the 2nd ring of the spring so the smaller first ring does not get pushed to far inside of the 2nd ring. If the first ring gets pushed up too far it will snap where as oem size would catch the next ring and support both opposed to just the inner
what is amazing is that with reasonable care, none of this rust destruction would be happening. The idea is to prevent the rust with cleaning, phosphoric acid treatment, priming , painting, then treatment each year with an oil based water repellent such that the rust is controlled.
Hey bud. Primer holds moisture. That is its purpose. Never leave primer uncoated. Coat the inside of those frame caps with fluid film and you're golden. You do great work, man. I enjoy the videos. Thanks for sharing your work.
I have a 04 Rubicon... I garaged it years ago when I saw the frame and virtually everything underneath rusting. I plan to rust proof it before I let it back outside. I understand why there aren't a lot of TJ's left up north. It's a real shame because its a great jeep much better than the JK's (I know I have one). When I see the salt truck guys I flip them the bird !
Hey I have a 94 jeep yj frame that is Swiss cheese I’m trying to get an idea if I want to get another jeep or do the frame also no power steering how much did that cost may I ask
Nice work, I did similar repairs to 88 Nissan pick up and there is no way you can tell people how much work is involved unless you show them. Even this video doesn’t tell whole story. I got to hand it to you, do it right or don’t do it at all! Whatever you charge it’s not enough! I do collision work for a living and did my share of rust work starting out years ago and I will tell you I don’t miss it! Keep up good work.
Looks like that Jeep was neglected. People need to understand, even new rust starts immediately afterwards whether there's drain holes or not. On my 2019 Jeep, I have rust inside the entire length on the frame, more so wherever there was a weld from the factory. I suggest picking up a nice quality Endoscope and looking inside.
Great work! I was looking forward to seeing you install the center torx box over that body mount. Any chance you'll post that process in the near future? Cheers ~
Wish I did, bought one Monday for 1500 the floor pan was rusted out from both sides and I have rust on both sides before the up curve above the axles body mounts are rusted too
Hi. I have a 95 Jeep Wrangler that needs a new frame, lots of rust. Can you give me an est on cost? Inside is in great shape. I would love it back on the road! Ty!
What would you suggest to cut with, if you don't have or can't afford a plasma torch? Also, when welding the cap on the inside of the cap, upper trail arm area, it must be near impossible to get weld just above that trail arm mount?🤔 As you said, you even had to paint that area before hand, as you would have no access to reach it, after it was on.
I use a pump up sprayer mixed with oil and diesel fuel spray front to back both sides till it drips out holes, I buy a couple cans every other month of spray lube and do the tub and fenders just everything it’s ridiculous how fast they go from good to bad
Im in fl and if your not careful the humidity here is awful on cars, not really the frames but just in general, but definitely not as bad as having to deal with snow and salt.
wonder what the cost was on that, cause i have a jeep liberty that needs some TLC on the frame .. thought about finding another liberty with blown motor and just doing a frame swap over .. but finding one with a good frame is the problem .. the hole drivers side from the drivers door back needs replaced id think. and its just on the drivers side that is the worst .. pass side is not that bad, but could use some TLC as well ..
Followed your video and have done the skid plate section repair and the body mount repairs. Just staring on the rear trailing arm repair sections. I just have one question. Above the bracket where you paint because it can't be accessed, how did you weld that little section, or is it safe to leave? Great video sir, Thank You for all your help.
So... I may be looking at something like this in my future... May I ask what the price-tag was on this repair? Oh, and your are a fabricating god, btw, ;-)
At 21:51, how do you know exactly where to slide on the caps to maintain precise location of control arms mounts? Because when you have the lower portion of the frame cut out, there is so much free handling the caps when sliding them on. Any slight misalignment of the caps would result in wheel misalignment.
I measure from the front lower control arm mount bolt center, to the rear lower bolt center before I make any cuts. I then match that measurement on both sides with the caps slid on.
@@MorFabIndustries Yes but wouldn't that only be front to back measurement? How do you know how far up to push the cap on the existing frame? Height of the control arm mount is what i'm trying to say.
@@15farcry measure from the bolt center to the top of the frame before you cut out the old mount. Then match that with the safety caps. Height is not as important as front to rear square.

"Enough zinc in it that you can weld through it"??? You may want to look into the extreme hazards of welding zinc plated metals. Granted it's paint not plating but if it has zinc in it, you are playing with a bomb.
It does have some zinc in it. I am fully aware and cautious of my exposure to it while painting and welding. My shop is very well ventilated and I do my best to keep out of the smoke that is around. In some cases I wear a respirator under my helmet! Thank you so much for your concern.

You are correct but most jeeps will never see that much force on a spring to do that and what Justin did is more than adequate
How much did you charge the guy to do this job? Just curious
Hourly rates are usually right around 50hr for mechanic shops. Somewhere around 40hrs seems right to me.
Thanks for saving another jeep Justin, and great work once again. Always a pleasure watching you work
