    Very professional and detailed walk through on how to repair a rotted Jeep Wrangler Frame. I also liked the information on pricing for the repair. It was quite helpful especially when you are looking for a repair shop to get the job done for you.

      Big money for fabrication shops selling those.Because they are high demand and not many people make them,they kinda have a niche market.

    Original owner of a spec-ordered 1997 TJ Sport (yep, still own it and drive it almost daily). Roughly 9 years ago, I paid to have Endangered Species Jeep (Holyoke MA) to “rebuild” my Jeep’s frame…they used Safe T Cap, manufactured in Rhode Island (I think). Jeep has 150+ on the clock….and that frame repair “saved her life”! Now I’m retired….and seriously considering a complete TJ restoration (all my kids learned to drive stick in her….I don’t have the heart to get rid of it - although I’ve had some remarkably insane offers to buy her!!) . My frame repair is still going strong! I’m a fan of Endangered Species….but you guys have a great reputation as well. Anyone considering this repair? Short of a complete frame replacement, I can’t imagine a better solution. Highly recommend it! Great video, amigo…..I enjoyed seeing how this was done!

    I have caught myself watching every single one of these frame repair videos, and I have to say, I am impressed with your quality of work, what you include in the videos, and just finding it satisfying that these vehicles, which would normally be on their Deathbed, are given a new lease on life.
    I understand why you find this kind of work satisfying and why you share it, keep up the good work man!

    Wow! Thank you for this excellent educational video. The Jeep with the Rubicon package got me excited until I heard it was an automatic transmission. The auto transmission is a negative not a positive. The owners of Jeeps in the "Rust Belt states" have my respect for what they have to deal with in the winter up there. I am envious of your excellent shop! That is some beautiful welds on that frame repair. Job well done, Carry On Sir.

    I have been looking at used wranglers for quite some time. Every one I have looked at has a rusted frame. I mean everyone. The seller sometimes does not even know it till I point it out. Best way is to put your finger in the oval hole near the control arm mount in the front and you can feel the flakes of rust. Worse in Ct. with the liquid rot the state uses.

  • @Bret4207

    We've had 3 Wranglers with this issue. Couldn't save the '95, the '98 we're going to get the Safe T Caps for and the 99 has already been done. If you own a Wrangler in the northeast and drive it in winter you absolutely have to get that frame blown out and washed out every spring and get the inside oiled. Do the rest of the underside too and all the panels you can reach. Salt is a bear. Meanwhile, my '58 and '59 CJs are still solid and earning their keep!

    • @stephenhunter6507
      @stephenhunter6507 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Cheesin31 Great question....It was a while back and I'm over seas now I don't have the records on hand. I needed a clutch. My family mechanic freaked out when the frame turned to dust. The jeep sat for months while i researched and found SafeTCaps. I was just south of Boston so they referred me to O'handley Auto in Taunton, MA. Great guy! When he explained the tub off procedure I got the repair kit and loaded my truck with all the replacement parts I had been collecting. I had frame, body mounts, torque box, ball joints, RC lift, stabilizer, tires, and a few other things done.
      If the tubs are taken off not only is the repair easier, but customers who are strapped for time will elect to have other needed repairs done increasing your business. Look up and call Mike O'handley. His team has it down to a science. Takes a little more than 1 hour to have the whole tub off from grille to spare up in the air.

    Looking at that frame it seems obvious that the owner applied Fluid Film to the outside and didn't spray inside (there's a 360° tube style spray cap attachment designed specifically for this) the tube frame. Proper application is everything. Jeep frames typically are rotted worse inside than outside because the outside can dry and the inside traps moisture.

    Repair looked really good. Damn de-icing crap they put on the road. Didn't see too many drain holes in the repair tho. Around here, the trucks just pour the de-icing crap on the road and I haven't seen any sand. Windshield hasn't had any dings tho from the lack of sand tho. Your prices for the repair was reasonable for the work involved which not every shop can do.

    God bless your heart for fixing this car. I personally would want nothing to do with the liability a job like this brings with it.
    Also i dont think that this car is worth as much as you think with a repaired frame. At least in wisconsin you have to disclose frame repairs when you sell a car ( at least dealers have to) and as soon as you have frame repair done your value drops by 50-70%
    To retain value as far as it being collectible you would have had to replace the entire frame.
    Also, i didnt see you drill drain holes in the aftermarket pieces you installed and i have not seen you spray the repaired frame with a rust preservative from the inside.
    I guess towards the end you mentioned you are “ coating everything inside and out” but it really would have been nice to show some of it.

    • @MorFabIndustries
      @MorFabIndustries  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The videos get real long if i show it all. The inside is coated with a self etching primer and then a corrosion resistant frame paint. The same is done on the outside. And here on the east coast, people are aware of the frame rot issues and value them accordingly. They will bring more money once they disclose that the frame has been repaired. I can buy rotted tj's all day for 3k,fix the frame, and sell them for 5-7500. It also helps that I am an authorized repair facility for these very projects. I have had 2 pass state inspection with the frame repair done where they failed prior to being repaired.

    • @ZILAwelds
      @ZILAwelds 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MorFabIndustries I think overall from what I can tell in the video you did a good job! I am not picking on it at all - I have been in the welding business for 22 years myself the last 11 self-employed and there are certain jobs that can be done but I personally choose not to do - this here would be one of them. I may consider doing this to my own vehicle but not to a customers vehicle. But that is just me. the idea is good! whenever I do stuff on cars (like rockers) where a cavity is created I have a special wax rust proofing stuff I spray in that cavity with a special hose (that is my "anti-rust treatment of choice" ) that is why I asked about yours - sometimes you can learn a new trick watching someone else do things that they do for a living.

    • @MorFabIndustries
      @MorFabIndustries  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So here's my secret haha. I do all the painting in and out and then after the paint fully cures, I have the customer come back in and I blast the entire inside of the frame with fluid film 😉 I use a hose I got from Eastwood that has a multi directional nozzle on the end. It works awesome!

    Have you considered getting one of the laser systems that removes rust? In watching your videos and based upon your type of work… it would seem one of the laser rust removal systems would be a great time saver….

    • @MorFabIndustries
      @MorFabIndustries  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have definitely looked into those! They are crazy expensive for a decent machine and they are really only good for removing surface rust and paint on good metal. We would still need to descale the frame before using the laser. Unfortunately for what we do, I can’t justify the cost.

    You are in Connecticut right? Have frame problems just like this but more minor with my 1999 TJ Wrangler Sport. Right now how a wobble passenger side once I go 50 mph or higher. I know I need new U-joint by that wheel, hope it solves the problem so I can travel the 158 miles to get to you... I might call you guys today, cuz I know no one near me that does this work...

    At what point do you think a new frame would be needed rather than a safe t cap? Also would a Yj be same price as a Tj?

    I'm actually looking at buying a Jeep just like that (Khaki LJ Rubicon Sahara). I hope it's not that rusty!

      It turns out it's pretty bad. Had at least one hole in the frame that's minimum 6-8 inches.

    I love your videos man, great info. I’m doing the center and front control arm sections on a TJ in my garage. It’s a kewl job to do buts it’s definitely labor intensive. Gonna chop the upper control mounts today. Did you say you coat the inside of the frame too? What do you use for that, like a weld through primer?

    • @MorFabIndustries
      @MorFabIndustries  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Weld through primer and then fluid film once the job is done.

    I'm about to start my frame repair on the ,my frame is not as bad under skid plate do I have to cut the whole bottom off like you did

    • @MorFabIndustries
      @MorFabIndustries  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. You'll be surprised at how much rust and debris will be inside the frame. Its better to cut it out and get all of the junk out.

    I see you are in " Better yet Connecticut" too LMAO. I didn't know frames rotted in CT. I'm a liar too. Great video and option for the Jeeps. I will keep in mind if I buy a rotted frame.

    Fluid Film the inside and outside of those frames annually. It is sad to lose a Jeep from frame rot. Looks like this guy did it years too late
