  • A circular walk around the beautiful St Mawes, the jewel in the Roseland's crown! St Mawes is now a popular destination for daytrips from Falmouth and attracts many visitors every year to stay in the picturesque character cottages village.
    in our walk today we explore the seclusion and solitude of the Percuil River, once used to transport goods to and from the local farms, to crest the headland and gain fabulous views of the River Fal all the way back to St Mawes.
    We have time for a little explore but it leaves us feeling hungry to know more.

    Mum and I were sat in the St Mawes Castle overflow carpark on Monday 14th September just watching the world go by .......when all of a sudden a loud ships horn blasted and 'MV The World' manoeuvred out of port and we really did watch "The World" go by.

    Hi guys, i have been to St Mawes a couple of times and its lovely on the Harbour in the village, took lots of photos and been up to the Castle, your right it does get busy. It was there I saw a lady put a life jacket on her dog, she put him in her canoe and off they paddled not just in the harbour but went far across. Never seen anything like it. The dog was obviously very used to doing it he couldn't wait to get in!! Lovely Sunday carvery at the blue and white hotel/pub in your first clip. Thanks for the memories again x

      What a fantastic dog! I think our little brown dog would train to do anything that I do, he is so 'in tune' and more so now that I am working from home so much! That's cute! Sarah :)

    Watched this with a tinge of sadness yet again. Despite all good intentions (& another cancelled booking for us...2 years in a row now) we couldn't get to Cornwall this year (won't bore you with the details of why, but Covid played a big part). Tuned in last Friday for your usual weekly vid and found you hadn't posted one til today! So have been all week thinking about the places we SHOULD have been but couldn't get to yet again. Sigh. St. Mawes is lovely...we took the ferry from Falmouth to go over. Poldark was filmed there in the 70s version using the castle when Ross went to ''France'' to rescue Dwight Enys from his imprisonment. Glad you rescued your doggy from the barbed wire. Not very tourist friendly eh? Hey Ho, Sarah, hoping that next year we can make it instead.........J x

      Oh no! You poor thing!! I hope that you and your family are all ok. We took a week off last week, just wanted a break from the pressure of editing and getting the video up in time every week! I hope that you will make it down next year! Sarah :)

    St Mawes is one of our favourite places, It never changes and is always so relaxing. I love the scenery and the bobbing boats & the old water tower is always a good land mark. We enjoyed your choice of walk and your lively banter and “Oh so bad jokes’ they make us laugh. Keeping us entertained at this very difficult time is a constant in our lives so do keep it up. Stay safe and “keep on walking’ Thank you.

    What a lovely place St Mawes is, those large houses around from the castle by the river are a dream. My wife and i were in Mawnan last week and had a reflective moment due to your film about 4 beaches last month, after a lovely walk from Mawnan church to Helford ferry, we stopped at Trebah on the way back. Your film and comment about the concrete road down to it made me look at the Trebah website featuring some photos of the faces of the young American lads passing by the Red Lion Pub at Mawan Smith, on their way down to the ships at Trebah beach. These young men, in a few days after the photos were taken ,were probably dead in The D Day assault, 76 years later, in the news that morning, are todays young men, whinging about how unfair it is, having to self isolate for two weeks at Uni. What a difference the years have made. Thanks to your film you have opened my eyes to what we owe the people from those years ago and the sacrifices they made. I hope you are both well, and keep washing those hands.

      It does make you think, when walking down the road what efforts and sacrifice was made back then, Sarah :)

    Love🧡 St.Mawes!⛽ Used to spend my childhood holidays there back in the late 60s. Stayed at one of road cottages up from the pink cottage. Beautiful view from my bedroom!🌅 🌄 Didn't like that nasty barbed wire must say! Love the 2 castles🏰 built in Henry VIII s era🤴 Beaches are lovely too, lovely gentle place⛵🚣

    Hi Sarah & Andrew, this reminded us our wonderful stay in St Mawes a few years ago. We actually did most of this walk as part of one of our "longer" walks! The weather was not so good, but it was a fabulous walk all the same; stunning views around every corner. Thank you for the add-free version too!

    The original main port on the Roseland was Tregony before the river up to it silted up. Nice walk, I did about 3/4 yrs ago at a similar time of year and played "which house would we live in if we won the lottery" , plenty to choose from..... :-)

    • @CornishWalkingTrails
      @CornishWalkingTrails  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So did you win the lottery?!? Very expensive properties in St Mawes!! Just looked up the average house price on Zoopla - £811K!! It would need to be a good win... Sarah :)

    Wonderful area :-) I believe we will pass St. Mawes with a ferry once we walk on from Falmouth some time in the future... :-) But the South West Coast Path doesn't cover St. Mawes and this area. Lovely to have a look at it in the video then :-)
