    Thanks for sharing! It’s important for the community to see that even amaIng pilots like you sometimes have a bad flight. Helps deal with our own failures.

      Totally agree! Maybe I should think about posting more fail videos. But it's important not to overdo 😅

    Thanks for sharing the failures too. I think it's easy to imagine that every flight always go as planned for top pilots like yourself, but in the end, sometimes it's just not meant to be :) And that's alright, that's also where some of the excitement and challenge comes from :D

    Thanks Dmitry for showing the reality of flying. It might be overwhelming looking at all those great flights, perfectly executed FAI triangles etc. Showing some "failures" gives true view of paragliding.

      You are absolutely right, paragliding has its ups and downs. Social media, as usual, shows only the best parts.

    I have definitely missed timing on launches. I’ve launched and struggled for 20-30 minutes just to land in the bail out then watched my friends launch 15-30 minutes after I landed and fly XC, it happens, nothing to do but learn from it

    • @dymanoid
      @dymanoid  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, sometimes even 20 minutes too early can ruin your flight. Been there done that!

    I dont think im a better pilot than you, but you asked for ideas what you and the group could have than better.
    You told us that the situation at the take off was different from the forecast. Maybe that could be an indicator to wait longer to be sure to get thermals. In that moment you all already knew that the day could not be as good as expected. So to wait longer only means to reduce your risks of beeing disappointed.
    And: Thank you for sharing so many interesting videos about our great sport :)

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts! This is what we indeed considered. We took off a bit later than planned and also we were not the first pilots in the air - a couple of pilots launched before us and did manage to get some climb. It turned out that they perfectly met the thermal cycle and we totally missed it. And because of the inversion layer and the "wrong" wind we didn't get any second chance. Sometimes it happens!

    We really tried.. man that sucked. I know that flying is just for fun, but landing so early on these days with that kind of a forecast just sucks.
    I got lucky though - i packed my things super quick and the first car that drove by picked me up and drove me straight up to the lake again, where i once again did the hike. I met the others, completely drenched in sweat and hurried up to take off again for a second time. Well, it being so late now, the thermals worked and i was able to do my flight close-ish to what i've planed.
    I guess if you dont have the patience like we did, then you gotta have it in your legs to do this hike with heavy gear twice 😅

    Hi Dimi, nice that you also point out the difficult aspects of our sport. Would it have been an option to fly southwest into the Antholz valley? At least you would have had more working height.

    • @dymanoid
      @dymanoid  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes, not all flights are a great success, sometimes there are bloopers like this one. The Antholz valley was unfortunately not a good option, the cloud base there was significantly lower, and the pilots who took off at Grente one hour later after us struggled a lot to get to the Staller Sattel.

    Very valid topic: I only fly XC in areas I know and when the Forecast almost guarantees me to fullfill my plan. Thats a huge Error and limits my flights drastically. I don't have an Issue with landing "somewhere" so I don't know why I don't take a bit more risk and by that enable me to be lucky and get a better flight than expected. Right now I anyway don't have the time but you just motivated me to go for an XC Flight with less favourable Conditions - (not in terms of security but in terms of projected Thermals) - whats the worst that can happen? Exactly - a 8km Flight instead of a 100Km :-)

    • @dymanoid
      @dymanoid  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, when you know the conditions are not great, it's really okay if you land shortly after taking off. But when the day promises a huge adventure but you chicken out right at the beginning, that really sucks!
      I'm glad you got motivated to fly more! Flying in different/difficult conditions is also great, because you can practice a lot. I doesn't have to be a huge flight in km, but it can be a huge flight in terms of skills you get.

  • @svetre87
    @svetre87 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hmmm I would like to guess two things:
    - you didn't take off in a thermal cycle, but I can't be sure if thermals were even coming exactly up there
    - you took off simply too early? What I observed is that pilots who fly long distances take off really early in comparison to others, but also the risk of bombing out is quite bigger.
    Ciao!
