    B roll has been a huge issue for me and my videos because I fear the expectations that come with it. I don’t want my videos to feel like a huge production each time. It is really coincidental that you uploaded this video about it today on the day where I am dreading the over 8 B-roll scenes I want to film for a video. A reminder that it is worth it 😂

    • @FilmBooth
      @FilmBooth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I don't actually like filming B-Roll, its my biggest weakness and the part im least interested in but I do it because without it, my contents no way near as good to watch and I know the impact it has, good luck on your shoot

    That's such a great point about stock video vs. your own b-roll at least from my own experience. The last video I did I recorded the b-roll all on my own & today it's been the best performing video yet with no dip until the end (it drops to about 80% after the first few seconds then stays consistent). Curious if you've noticed a significant increase in your average retention rate by abruptly ending the video. Thanks for the content! Still more valuable than Skillshare :)

    • @FilmBooth
      @FilmBooth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So ive not had any drop off at all since I decided to end videos like this. So its about a 2-5% from old videos where there was always a drop off, ive actually gone back to older videos and started cutting of the end of the videos with the TH-cam editor

    Very good info. I could certainly incorporate more b-roll, and more interesting b-roll in my videos. One tip though, when you did a close frame on the record button on the camera, you move your finger into the frame and the camera shifted focus. That could be what you're going for, but if not, in shots like those I like to get the focus locked on the primary focus of the shot (the record button). That way it's always in focus and my finger moving into the frame isn't distracting with the focus shift.

    • @FilmBooth
      @FilmBooth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wasn't going for it but I noticed it when filming. I just decided that because time is short and the video wasn't actually about hitting the record button just to make a quick point, it didnt matter.
      Sometimes you have to weigh up trying to make things perfect vs if it really matters otherwise videos just eat up far too much time

    In my latest video I finally made a concerted effort to do broll, and the difference in quality and retention is noticeable. Only took me like 2-3 years to get around to it. I used a mix of stock and my own. I tend to film on iPhone 11...is there a go-to camera/lens recommendation for broll that tends to be more close-up/dirty lens shots?

    Hi, I hope you can make a video in the future about editing improvised videos. I create "advice content" as a dating coach... many coaches have a format where they comment/react to someone's message/question... I wonder if it's possible to make this format more retention-proof or if the only way is to switch to scripted content with lots of b-rolls, etc

    For my next video I'll do the homework but it's gonna be a bit different because of the gaming content. Specially when the game doesn't have photo mode or something like that.
    Maybe a teaser of what I'm gonna build or a few bits of what's gonna happen without giving away too much information and ruining the fun and the feeling of curiosity 🤔
    I'll give it a try 🤞

    Btw, the b roll sequence where you ended in the wide angle shot with you being goofy was by FAR the most effective! (Funny and it flowed perfectly as a story!) Am i right?
