It’s funny that about the same exact time you guys bought the franna crane and started the rebuild series on it I bought an old 87’ Chevy square body with the same intentions of “fix a few things and give it a new paint job” but it quickly turned into a full frame off restoration… very similar to the franna…. Well we are rebuilding our projects alongside one another!! Cheers from Georgia!! I love y’all’s videos.
While watching this complete dismantling of this crane I found myself absolutely dreading the potentials for its re-assembly. This would be my worst nightmare. Rewiring a car? No problem, there are schematics to be followed and everything seems logically laid out, but this is just helter-skelter, and theirs just so much of it! Kurtis you are a rock star. Major kudos!
I hope so. I remember an off-hand comment early in this process about not having a drift car so he's going to pimp out his Franna. Can't wait to see how this gets put back together! 😂
What a big job ahead of you, Kirtis. You have so many parts to clean up, repair, and replace. But if anyone can make it happen, it's you. Karen is excellent with the camera and your best help. I'm glad you are finally done dismantling the crane and ready to start going back the other direction soon.
Those center pins are always giving the bird to anyone that wants to remove them. You nailed those, Well done Kurtis and thanks for that great photo work Karen. Love the high speed.
Hang yeah, im happy as hell we working on the Franna today. Im dead serious, I can't wait for what Kurtis is going to have it looking like when hes done. If its hand and hand with everything else he does, then I'll bet it will be a one of a kind.
What an awesome video. Great project. I'm sitting in my van at 5 am in the rain. I'm in Newfoundland at a lighthouse remembering weight reduction things we did on the van. Very satisfying watching you bin excess parts and redundant bits. It's always a good day when you have a new video to start it with. Great painstakingly thorough craftsmanship.
I swear Kurtis is a over grown kid, He has a absolute blast reenginering anything engineered by a by a engineer lol This machines will be a gem by the time it gets down. Need to do a fancy custom paint scheme on it to make it stand out. I despises the plastic hose supports, they tend to wear thro the hose. I agree on the greasing system a few hoses for hard to acess and thats it,grease is better done by hand since long hoses do clog up.
My brother was a mechanic for 37 years and he could take a engine apart and put it back together the way it was from the factory his gift was a photographic memory! Fantastic content.
Thanks to Karen you are right in the middle of the work. Very good camera feel. Thank you Karen for the good insights into your husband's work. Greetings from Hamburg, Germany 🇩🇪
Well, you took care of the project creep problem, just strip it all down! No bolt, fitting of connector left undone. This project is the gold mine of content.
Hello CEE team, greetings from Belgium.... yes yes yes, starting a Friday morning with a new Franne crane video 😄 and the new heavy duty bins in action 😁. Have a lovely weekend, don't forget to enjoy the cold 🍻.
Love this build! I'm now retired but did heavy repair for many years and this is my kind of job! Rebuild what you have mate, then you know what you've got! You're young and when done and done right, this crane will last you all of your days, and then still have good resale if maintained. Cheers from the USA
I totally admire your commitment getting the crane back to perfection. It’s a 3D jigsaw I definitely wouldn’t be able to put back together! Having these videos will be a godsend when running all the new hoses & wires back through the crane.
Thank you Kurtis and Karen for taking us along on this journey. It really is amazing and I look forward to watching your upcoming videos Would it have made any difference if you had done the bottom nut before the top? WOW!
I can only imagine how hard of a life it is for equipment at the mines, especially near the wash plant. Nice that Kurtis tells what each thing is. I more than likely never need this knowledge, but at least I haven't wasted the day, since I've learned something new. Much love from Finland!
I love how you are going through and fixing/replacing everything that it needs it is a lot of work and a lot of time and money but it will be as good as new if not better when you are done. This is great for my brain because every time i fix something im like well while im here i should fix that too and on i should change that too thats old and worn out and it just goes on and on from there. It's great to see it's not just me. And its awesome that you have the time and money to do this whole project.
Ahem, this is a CEE video, so it's not limited to just "fixing / replacing everything that it needs"!!! ANYONE could attempt that (and most would still fail at doing so)! CEE takes it further by IMPROVING upon whatever it was to begin with.
@trevorvanbremen4718 well yeah 100% agree with you. I did say it will be as good as new if not better when it's done. I love all the effort he is going into and how meticulous he is being with it all, getting it all just right.
Kurtis you are always a great one-man show to watch. Karen's repartee adds the spark of levity that makes everything much more enjoyable. Then there is Homey and your outdoor free-flight avairy. Good job down under. I live in San Diego, California and work on equipment that is beachside but the corrosion is nothing compared to what you have. WOW
Kept thinking that every time another hose was thrown onto the pile. Time to buy a hose crimper, it'll pay for itself before the end of this project. 🤔😜
WOW!!! Kurtis, I think you enjoy the destruction/disassembly as much as engineering/fabricating new stuff. Looking forward to the clean-up, painting, and then the re-assembly. The rebirth of the Franna is clearly on the way. Thanks for sharing.
I’m watching a master tear down this crane and thinking, I’m glad I don’t have to remember how it all goes back together. Karen does such a marvelous job of filming and editing, she deserves a 5 star dining experience. Love the channel. You three are awesome together.
I was happy to see another Franna video and a in depth gutting of the thing, awesome it will have a whole other life and a long one at that when your done. Kurtis those heavy duty dolly look very cool and a handy item when needed, and thanks of course to Karen for bringing it all to screen.
The content just keeps coming on the Frenna. It’s so exciting to see how you have tamed a project that I would frankly start running away from at Olympic speeds if I were confronted with it. Again I’m not worthy 🙏 and you are, without a doubt. The Man Mr Kurtis. All my love to Karen, Homeless, the memory of George ❤️
Another fine CEE video and a fine morning in Bad Münder! When I saw the 9/16 socket at the start, I was reminded of how virtually all of the bolts on my early model Chevy's were that size and I could basically disassemble the entire engine with one wrench! (not the head bolts and mains) As Kurtis was wrenching the lines on the grease block I thought "perfect job for am angle grinder" and was happy to see shortly after using one! And finally a climatic end where the last pin sees things our way in time to take in a beautiful sunset! Time for a coldie! 🍺🍺 Thanks again and have a great weekend!
We love watching you build/fix/repair, etc Michael understands most because he can do most of what you do but I am facenated everytime I watch. You both work well together her videos (from every angle) as much as your building keep me watching not missing a beat... the crane will be almost brand spanking new when done...🎉 thanks for sharing guys
Had a pool pump that frequently required service. It had a fiberglass liner that held the filter basket and a check valve. It took me exactly three times if getting those fiberglass splinters in my arms and hands until I started wearing long sleeve shirts and gloves. Those things are nasty and just thinking about it makes me feel raw again. Thanks for the memories.
An example of Pavlov's experiment happened while I was watching. A train came by, and my first thought was, "F$%& off, train!". Never would have happened had I not started watching this channel a couple years ago.
Karen, this video came together and flowed beautifully. What comes to mind when i see these videos is “she edits and brings all this together like a symphony.” Kurtis, amazing dedication to really bringing this bonny back to life proper. Cheers from Texas
I must say, as a field service guy, watching you fix and cure all the ills that this crane has makes all my everything happy 😊. I would interject though, save the hose wraps and keep the greasing system. Emphasis on the hose anti chafe wrap, at least here in the states the popular sizes have been. Unobtainable since covid, and if you can find stock 🤑🤑🤑. Thanks for the video guys🫂
How the memory works... Watching you weld those skates together, I could smell the burning rust!!! Its been quite a few haircuts since I had to do stuff like that.
This was truley an experience! I now have a very detailed knowledge of the inner workings of this crane. As an auto mechanic, I really enjoyed this so far. Thank to you both for all you do to bring us content!
My Gosh!! What an event! The more you took things out, the more there was to take out! I would NOT be able to put that back together!! But good on you mate!
I have every confidence in your ability to put this back together Kurtis better than it was new. Got to say you are a bold man and guess you have access to hydraulic and electric / air schematics as this thing is a plumbers nightmare . Not to mention the ropes and lines in the boom sections . I look forward to every video of yours and especially this Franna restore . Great camera work Karen . Its strange one would think its would be boring just tearing down an old crane but for some reason you too make every video interesting and love the dog and the birds awesome keep em coming please
Yesss...Pimp Mah Crane is back :D Actually the headlights are GFR plastic but as the plastic degrades under the UV action the fiberglass is left exposed
The best mini-series on TH-cam...I'd even place Franna Crane above Yellowstone in a competition for my viewing time! And mechanic's tooling in the only place for diversity..!
That is one heck of a restoration you guys have undertaken. My money is on one very tricked out Franna Crane when you are finished with it. Godspeed in this incredible project !
Wow! That was a real rip and tear fest!!! Almost down to the sub atomic particle stage! I am confident you can rebuild it but I have no idea how you will do it...... Excited muchly to see the rebuild begin, although every episode shows even more dismantling. 😮 I am sure Warren at Western Truck is loving this - he is also not afraid to go in deep with his projects. 😊
I imagine that even if you had got this crane for free, it wouldn't be economically viable to rebuild it. But the content it enables is so good that makes it worth. Great job!
Dunno why but I’m mesmerised at you breaking down the machine and patiently waiting for you to put it back together. I’ll probably never need to know how these hydraulics work but I’m interested just the same.
Yup, it's Friday AND a Franna crane update. One small question: Are you going to return it to its original white? Or are you going full CEE Baby/Sky blue?
Kurtis I just love watching your content here in the UK, it's really fascinating seeing some of the jobs you do, also I take it Karen is putting the crane back together now she's learnt how it comes apart 😉😅
You have no fear whatsoever in your abilities to tear down and re-manufacture anything. I use to be known a a "JOAT" or jack of all trades. But I could never compete or compare with your abilities. Thanks for all the tips I have gotten from your projects through the years and keep up the good work.
Was feeling tired this morning as baba was awake a lot last night. We got up and I see a new upload. Got my 1 month old, glued to this 😂😂. Happy days. I will say I've watched a fair few rebuild videos on TH-cam and this is one of the most ambitious I've seen. An epic Franna episode 👍👍 Thanks The skates look like they were made for this job - and such an effortless rolling action 👍 I'm pretty sure that the new wiring and hoses etc. will go back in with a much better/neater arrangement - looking forward to that. Now the front of the Franna can be rolled into the workshop we are in for a treat with the cab build episode(s). All the best, Paul

As I recall, this crane was nearly ready to go when you bought it, but I can't find those videos to refresh my memory. What doesn't need refreshing is that I love watching you work. Nothing seems beyond you, and this is one massive project. I'm looking forward to seeing how you think it should go back together.
Kurtis my man, I've got years and years of Truck experience behind me!! BUT YOU'RE FREAKING ME OUT!! HOW DEEP YOUR GOING WITH THIS PROJECT, DA#M BRO. I'M NOT ASHAMED TO ADMIT THIS, I COULDN'T REBUILD THIS CRANE!! I had a burned old Ford LT-9000 truck come into the shop, Manager picked me to fix it!! "Nooo"! I found one in the news paper, 125 miles away, I took my 110 Kodak camera and 8 rolls of film and 25 flash cube's. Took pictures of everything under the hood and behind the dash and under the frame!! That repair STILL took me 3 weeks to repair! with the videos Karen took of the tear down of the crane YOU WILL DO GREAT,! THE CEE WAY! THANKS KAREN FOR SHOWING HOMELESS AND THE BIRD THAT LOVE THE BOTH OF YOU!
With the unfortunate part being that because he heated the bolt, it still has to be replaced. I understand not cutting right through it thought, thick cuts like that can be a pain.
@arthurmoore9488 I was thinking that heating it up to melt the plastic and then hit it with the pneumatic would do it. Not that I'm trying to second guess Kurtis, it just hit me the when he was staring beating on it with the sledgehammer :)
Amazing project!! Absolute joy to watch you take it down to the frame. Can't count the number of times over the years I've chased pluming and HVAC leaks, oil leaks, electrical shorts, lost grounds, etc. and wished I could just pull the whole mess out and start over. Very well done, and thanks for sharing!! Very best, 42-Jack
That center pin meets impact driver pause... CEE-rocodile Dundee moment... That's not an impact driver, THIS is an impact driver. LOL Loving this project. Have a great weekend guys.
To put it mildly, I'm impressed. I expected you to steam clean every square banana of the crane, but to completely strip everything out is a whole other level.
F**K YEAH...... A FRANNA CRANE VIDEO!!! Ive been home the last 2 weeks trying to recover from a serious injury!! I was run over by a skid steer at work! TO HAVE A FRANNA CRANE VIDEO to watch at 4am, Tulsa OK time, while Im up and in lots of pain, makes the pain almost vanish! Great job Kurtis and Karen! Cheers and much love from T-town OK, USA!! 🤙🤘👊🫶
@dirtfarmer7472 HOWDY NEIGHBOR LOL!!! Woodward is an AWESOME town, done A LOT of deer hunting up that way! It wasn't the skid steer operators fault, it was the site foremans negligence for disregarding safety procedures!!! Thanks for the comment my friend, and God bless!
@slots1407 a bunch of negligence by jobsite foreman led to me being backed over by a Bobcat track loader! It exploded my knee out of the back of my knee! I've had emergency surgery the day of the accident, I've got at least one more reconstructive surgery on my knee and probably a surgery coming to fix the disfigurement from all the muscle and fatty tissue that exploded out of my upper calf muscle! Long road of recovery ahead of me and then a long road of litigation and lawsuits after that!
This is such a *huge* amount of work! Second only to the effort to put it all back together (and better than before)! Huge shout out to Kurtis and his wife!!!
Kurtis is revisiting his "Erector Set" childhood! Good on you, Kurtis! The *entertainment* value for us out here in subscriber-land of this crazy project, is priceless! Keep 'em coming, Mate. And kudos to you, too, Karen, for knowing how to make these vids so engaging! Cheers from yet another Yank.
holy crap. I would have jumped into this project with enthusiasm myself - I currently have a bridgeport mill in pieces in my shop... but watching how many pieces and hoses and wires are coming out of that thing gives me the heeby geebies!
Taking it apart is the easy part. Getting it back together and working is a lot harder, at least for me. Hope you took good notes and photos and have a shop manual. Keep up the good work.

See, that's what the video series is really for. Once everything is in order, he just plays it backwards and puts the pieces back in the same order.
I think you're going to like what we have planned 😉
I hope so. I remember an off-hand comment early in this process about not having a drift car so he's going to pimp out his Franna. Can't wait to see how this gets put back together! 😂
There are full maintenance, parts, and operation/function manuals available. The trick is to find the part number for the manuals.
The rewiring will be a nightmare
What a big job ahead of you, Kirtis. You have so many parts to clean up, repair, and replace. But if anyone can make it happen, it's you. Karen is excellent with the camera and your best help. I'm glad you are finally done dismantling the crane and ready to start going back the other direction soon.
Those center pins are always giving the bird to anyone that wants to remove them. You nailed those, Well done Kurtis and thanks for that great photo work Karen. Love the high speed.
Always welcome mate!! Hope you're keeping well over there 😎👊
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering I am doing well my friends. New carbon fibre wheelchair and wishing I was working for you mate.
Karen is as good with a camera & editing as Kurtis is with machining 🤩👍🏻
Well, you took care of the project creep problem, just strip it all down! No bolt, fitting of connector left undone. This project is the gold mine of content.
Hello CEE team, greetings from Belgium.... yes yes yes, starting a Friday morning with a new Franne crane video 😄 and the new heavy duty bins in action 😁. Have a lovely weekend, don't forget to enjoy the cold 🍻.
I fell like this whole project was just an excuse to use new bins.
Love your determination and resilience. Great stuff!
I'm retired now and fish every Saturday but you 2 have made me look forward to Friday. Thank you and good luck.
*Cutting Edge Engineering Australia* Bravo well done, thank-you both for taking the time to bring us along. GOD Bless.
Wow, this episode really drove home the enormity of this undertaking! Mighty effort. Thank you K, K & H 👍
Love this build! I'm now retired but did heavy repair for many years and this is my kind of job! Rebuild what you have mate, then you know what you've got! You're young and when done and done right, this crane will last you all of your days, and then still have good resale if maintained. Cheers from the USA
At least one of those vintage Franna flaps deserved a place on the wall. That patina takes a long time and respect to a great Aussie brand.
Yeah those flaps had seen some action......
@@markeaste i was thinking it would be big of Franna to donate new ones. Surely someone over there is watching?
I totally admire your commitment getting the crane back to perfection. It’s a 3D jigsaw I definitely wouldn’t be able to put back together! Having these videos will be a godsend when running all the new hoses & wires back through the crane.
Thank you Kurtis and Karen for taking us along on this journey. It really is amazing and I look forward to watching your upcoming videos
Would it have made any difference if you had done the bottom nut before the top?
WOW
„They Identity as impact sockets, today“ that got me 😂😂😂 love you and greetings from germany 🙏🏻
Hose blokes are Gunna love you.😊😅😅
Kept thinking that every time another hose was thrown onto the pile. Time to buy a hose crimper, it'll pay for itself before the end of this project. 🤔😜
@@The1nsane1not to mention not going insane trying to get it all routed
Once you started, I expected nothing less than a complete nut & bolt restoration.
Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
(not the head bolts and mains)
As Kurtis was wrenching the lines on the grease block I thought "perfect job for am angle grinder" and was happy to see shortly after using one!
And finally a climatic end where the last pin sees things our way in time to take in a beautiful sunset! Time for a coldie! 🍺🍺
Thanks again and have a great weekend!
🤣👍
Karen, this video came together and flowed beautifully. What comes to mind when i see these videos is “she edits and brings all this together like a symphony.” Kurtis, amazing dedication to really bringing this bonny back to life proper.
Cheers from Texas
This project is not for the faint hearted. Scares me.
Love it. Xx
What tearing apart a machine and rebuilding it? All it takes is money and the willingness to invest countless hours into an old machine.
@@jims.3987 Into a NEW machine - fixed it for you!
Bloody hell, how the hell do you ever put this back together 😂. Fantastic as ever from Karen and Kurtis oh and of course Homey.
On the bright side I know of a disassembly TH-cam series he can watch in reverse if he doesn’t remember lol
Yesss...Pimp Mah Crane is back :D
Actually the headlights are GFR plastic but as the plastic degrades under the UV action the fiberglass is left exposed
I am sure Warren at Western Truck is loving this - he is also not afraid to go in deep with his projects. 😊
I imagine that even if you had got this crane for free, it wouldn't be economically viable to rebuild it. But the content it enables is so good that makes it worth. Great job!
I've got my coffee, I've got CAKE and I got another CEE video about the Franna Crane. Perfect start into Friday and the weekend!
I was hanging around at midnight thinking maybe it’ll get posted before give up and go to bed.
The meme "it can't be tight if it's liquid" come to mind, seeing Kurtis handling the 2 center pins. :D :D. Absolutely love it. :)
Outtakes were especially good. " of course they're not the same size"
Dunno why but I’m mesmerised at you breaking down the machine and patiently waiting for you to put it back together. I’ll probably never need to know how these hydraulics work but I’m interested just the same.
It's been very satisfying removing all the old damaged parts, can't wait to sand blast all the old paint and rust off it 😂
Yup, it's Friday AND a Franna crane update. One small question: Are you going to return it to its original white? Or are you going full CEE Baby/Sky blue?
@@CuttingEdgeEngineeringyou've been collecting tools to take this beast on for a while. Time for it all to pay off.
Kurtis I just love watching your content here in the UK, it's really fascinating seeing some of the jobs you do, also I take it Karen is putting the crane back together now she's learnt how it comes apart 😉😅

The cleverest thing I watched for a long time was Kurtis cutting that nut of, never marked the threads. Pure skill.
With the unfortunate part being that because he heated the bolt, it still has to be replaced. I understand not cutting right through it thought, thick cuts like that can be a pain.
@arthurmoore9488
I was thinking that heating it up to melt the plastic and then hit it with the pneumatic would do it. Not that I'm trying to second guess Kurtis, it just hit me the when he was staring beating on it with the sledgehammer :)
This is an enormous job, exceptional skill.
LOL

Woodward Oklahoma here, watch those damn skid steers those operators are crazy & careless
Bloody hell, what happened?
@slots1407 a bunch of negligence by jobsite foreman led to me being backed over by a Bobcat track loader! It exploded my knee out of the back of my knee! I've had emergency surgery the day of the accident, I've got at least one more reconstructive surgery on my knee and probably a surgery coming to fix the disfigurement from all the muscle and fatty tissue that exploded out of my upper calf muscle! Long road of recovery ahead of me and then a long road of litigation and lawsuits after that!
