Well this game was rushed released on GameCube for that console during development. But least Brawl had delay gave release to later on 2008 instead originally released early on 2006 or 2007.

To this day I have no idea why they choose Zelda II of all games to base a stage off of, but I am so happy they did.
i mean, it is one of the only zelda games with any side-scrolling in it at all, and for such a large portion of the game. maybe they thought itd be easier to translate or something? it might've been cool to see a Temple of Time or Forest Temple stage or something
Could say the same with earthbound map. That was pretty obscure in comparison to zelda 2
@@Gameprojordan I wouldn't say Earthbound is as surprising of a choice because Ness was playable in the game. Of course he'd have a stage based off of his game.
Meanwhile, Zelda already had a ton of iconic games to base a stage off of, and out of all of them, Zelda II was likely the one players were least expecting.

@@Gameprojordanthey probably used Earthbound 64 as design inspiration for Onett since post timeskip Tazmily looks alot like Melees Onett layout, and Melee had borrowed some assets from that game. In regards to Fourside they just wabted a generic skyscraper level until they decided to make it Fourside specifically, which is why Melee Fourside isn't very similar to Earthbounds version
Melee truly does have a legendary soundtrack and this is one of it’s best pieces
its been 25 years since the very first super smash bros came out on the nintendo 64 and the series gotten better over the years happy 25th anniversary to the super smash bros game series
Thank Shogo Sakai, composer of Mother 3, for this and for many of the best arrangements in this game's soundtrack.
Hearing this just brings me back to the good old days in the early 2000s having my friends over during a warm mid summer day, hanging out and playing Melee together on GameCube, I miss those times, but at least those guys are still my best friends today, and we often get together to hang out like we did when we were younger, just to stay close with them and never fall out of touch.

The GameCube era was its own feel. The afterlife of the N64, taking its unsure first steps into the post-9/11 world, before the first social networks. A real slice of time.
To me that was my brother and I, on a saturday, eating pizza while playing the Gamecube. Sadly at that time we didn't have a memory card.

So how come Link is so disrespected if he has his powerful spinning sword attack? Granted, there is one more step to the “harpoon your enemy and throw him off the stage” strategy than in the game’s N64 counterpart, but the spinning sword attack may only make this strategy unnecessary.

Amazing how people give Zelda II so much shit because it made a few bad choices, but don’t give it any credit for the things it introduced to the series that people recognize today.
This is more of a rant, but here are some examples:
The Sages in OoT being named after the towns in Zelda II (canonically, it’s the other way around).
There’s always been some sort of strength item for moving objects, but most of the time they were rings or bracelets, up until Ocarina which took the idea of gauntlets from II’s Handy Glove.
The Megaton hammer has a similar design to the hammer in Zelda II.
The Boots item would let you walk over water, but got replaced with the Iron and Hover Boots (which serve a similar function for a more limited time).
In Zelda II, the goal was to return the six crystals to each temple (places which gave us this masterpiece of a soundtrack), and in Ocarina, you instead have to awaken the Seven Sages and obtain the medallions, only six of which you have to complete temples for.
Anyway, I recommend you play Zelda II if you haven’t before. It’s fun. The gameplay itself is a pain, but if you have Nintendo Switch Online, play it on the NES app and you can just rewind and use save states. It makes it so much less tedious and annoying.
2 of Link's best moves (imo) in Smash also come from Zelda II, those being the upthrust and downthrust

Zelda 2 is entirely slept on. As a platformer/RPG it's pretty much top tier, especially for its time. It was also far more ambitious than perhaps any other Zelda title since, which i think is where a lot of the trepidation in many gamers eyes comes from. It's absolutely worth playing, though. The music alone is legendary.

Yes, during Adventure Mode, you go through set stages that are littered with enemies themed after them. Mushroom Kingdom with goombas and koopa troopas. The Underground Maze of Zelda with redeads, octoroks, like likes, and if you count them, the Master Sword rooms where you can fight different Links.

Sometimes, for some odd reason, the dungeon will play the Fire Emblem theme instead of this one.

I have the same memory as you me and my friend played the he'll out of super smash bros melee on the gamecube back in the day the game Sidley quite working 2001 to 2022
Temple was one of the Tracks Sakurai held close to him so when he was given a Demo of the Track he said "im sorry the fans will not accept this" this track is out there to listen to and its very different than what the final product was.
This was a good stage to fight on

The production team for the music for this game specifically was just unbelievable at that time , and till this day nintendo creates the best music for their titles, especially smash bros.

At the time, I had not played Zelda II, although I had seen a friend play it. I didn’t know what it was back then and I certainly didn’t see a dungeon or hear this track. This game made me love this track so much that I had to play Zelda II just so I could hear the original!
Best Zelda song in the game. Period
As a child, Underground Maze used to scare the shit out of me, primarily because I freaked out everytime a ReDead bit a character that I loved too much to see them suffer with that kind of severe monstrosity (examples of victims include Ness, Yoshi, Kirby, Pikachu, and Jigglypuff, to name a few others).
Now as a young-adult, I am no longer afraid of exploring the Underground Maze, and sometimes I even hesitate to get past this level in Adventure Mode, because my opinion on the Underground Maze has changed so much that nowadays, I find it *scary in a fun way.* XD
I love how it's a remix of the Zelda 2 dungeon theme.
