When i saw Marth & Roy approaching as challengers for the first time i had NO CLUE who they were or where they were from. Then i was blown away by this intense song.. THE TRUMPETS MAN.
And god damn the song unironically fits on Fountain of Dreams when fighting to unlock Marth.

When you remember that Sakurai is pretty much responsible for the FE series still making games to this day since he helped the series get the recognition it deserves lol
We can't also forget the impact the Advance Wars series had on Fire Emblem success on the west.
If FE had a chance during the late 80's, it would've been considered a classic like Star Fox or Metroid.
@@RandalfElVikingo Man, advance wars. And that game then turned into battalion wars on the gamecube. Battalion wars is an interesting game on the gamecube, but if I remember correctly, it is basically advance wars on the gamecube.
@@qunt100 I always wanted to play Battalion Wars, but I was not lucky haha. It seems like a different game compared to both Advance Wars and Fire Emblem, of course you can control different troops and vehicles and you have to use strategy, but it is more in real time.
But sucks that Battalion Wars 2 and Advance Wars Days of Ruin were the last games of the franchise. They almost revived the first two games but the Ukraine war is going and the game can cause controversy haha.

True story, When you were playing the classic mode at ease, And at the end a totally unknown character appears who challenges you to a fight, And when you accept, the temple stage appears with a character who speaks Japanese, And I said What is this beautiful music ?, Who is he?, What beautiful memories.
I always thought Marth was a she haha. Then I played Fire Emblem 3 and he is truly a hero and a badass.

This was a brilliant strategy on Sakurai and Nintendo's part. As a 10 year old, I ended up buying Path of Radiance at Gamestop simply because I liked playing Marth in Melee. I knew nothing about the franchise or gameplay. Ended up falling in love with it and buying almost every subsequent FE game released in NA.

@@astupidphase Yup that's correct, unless I'm mistaken though both Marth and Roy's games were not localized outside of Japan at the time. So Path of Radiance and GBA Blazing Blade were the first games I played :)
@@berryrazy3185 Very much true, FE 1 through 6 were never localized, Fire Emblem the Blazing Blade (or as America just had it as Fire Emblem (I played an emulator)) was the first one to be localized, and fitting enough for GBA, then came Sacred Stones (my first FE game.) Next was Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn soon after, then remake of Shadow dragon (FE1) with New Mystery of the Emblem, series disappeared for a while, 3DS comes with Awakening (the revival of the series), Fates, remake of Gaiden, Shadows of Valentia, (only game that DOESN'T have Anna, a series universal character), and now Engage, so out of multiple titles, we still don't have Genealogy of the Holy War, Tharcia 776, and Binding Blade localized. I could be missing one easily (since I'm only going off what I do know from Engage.)
If you still own your copy of Path of Radiance, KEEP IT. The disc alone is no less than $200 nowadays.

99 Lives Temple 300% Damage with this absolute banger playing for hours straight. Many great nights, sleepovers, even helped me through a broken heart for being rejected by girls(That last one got a little to real lol)
And all the while, constantly hearing the character grunts over and over again until they finnaly fell off lol.

Fire Emblem series are such GREAT GAMES ! Peak of japanese's RPG with very well written stories (and mature stories for FE4-5-6).
I'm so glad SSBM made me discover this back then.
I would add 9 and 10 to the mature ones, the Ike games are heavy in sensitive political and social issues
Every game is mature: Fe3 forces you to kill your previous ally's, FE7 is full of heartbreaking stories, FE8 is all about the decay of the human nature. I would think Awakening is where they started to goof around with the stories.
FE4 and FE5 are too of the most underrated rpgs of all time

I spent so long as a kid listening to this song in game, as well as re-reading the trophies for Marth and Roy over and over, just imagining what these games were like. When I discovered FE7 on GBA i was the happiest kid ever
Never unlocked Marth or Roy as a kid because not only did I not know he existed, I also didn’t know I could unlock any other characters besides Puff. Plus I didn’t have a memory card at the time. But I remember accidentally triggering this song when booting up Temple because it was my favorite stage in the game. I was so confused but so excited because this melted my little 4 year old brain it was so cool. And this is still my favorite remix of the song to this day because of that bass line and those cool electronic echoes in the background.

I've spent my entire youth playing this game! Marth and Roy were my best friend and I's favorites. We usually picked the temple map and just ran around stupidly to this theme. >< Ah, good times!
My first encounter with Marth was a shock, I was just playing a battle against a random fighter in Multiplayer when Marth, my first unlocked character showed up. I didn't understand a word he was saying, but his theme song was sick. Not to mention he was an entirely new character, and I beat him. He was the first character I ever unlocked, followed shortly by Roy.
This song was literally one of my first connections to all the entire smash bros franchise
This is still a certified banger. Melee had some great music.

I still remember when I unlocked Marth and Roy. I was only 4 years old, barely getting into gaming. I was terrible at this game, but I was playing one day in me and my brothers room. I don’t know what I was doing in terms of the game, but all of a sudden, I see that “A New Challenger Approaches” and I see this blue haired sword fighter with this tune playing in the back. By some chance, I defeated him, and now I had unlocked Marth. I tried him out and soon, I unlocked Roy not long after. To my memory, this was my first experience with unlocking something within a game, and it always stuck with me.
Loved this music, and as everyone else in the west didn't knew anything about Fire Emblem. Then 1-2 years later my young brother had an opportunity to get a new game for his GBA. We were wandering in front of the GBA shelf looking for a game to pick. Then I saw a game called "Fire Emblem" with "Roy" on the cover. I said to my brother: "Look at this game, this is where Marth and Roy comes from! Sure Roy looked a bit different from Melee, and was called "Eliwwod" but whatever the game looked interesting. The rest was history. To this day Fire Emblem (FE7) is one of my all time favourite game, and after a break in the serie from FE7 to Shadow Dragon I keep them to this day.
So thanks to Smash Melee for introducing this great series to the west 🥰

Figuring out how to purposely make this song play in Temple was one of the highlights of my childhood.
I remember when i was a kid and i never had a memory card, but played melee all the time, one snow day I i unlocked all the characters up to marth and roy and ended up playing roy all day that snow day, Im 24 now doing a warm up doodle of one of my characters in roys costume while listening to this absolute banger, i think ill finish the doodle 😊

Introducing the Western Nintendo audience to Fire Emblem through the recruit theme is a stroke of genius that only could have happened in the Gamecube/PS2 era of video games.

Sometimes I think about how big Fire Emblem got partially because of Smash, and wonder what would’ve happened if some of the scrapped characters like Ayumi Tachibana or Mach Rider had made it to the final game. Then I remember Ice Climbers are basically just Smash characters at this point.

Oddly enough, this as an american this wasnt my first rodeo with Fire Emblem. My dad knew i wanted a gameboy and i told him i wanted pokemon as well for my birthday or xmas or whatever, the thing was he got me a GBA but either forgot or couldnt find pokemon, ended up getting me Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones.
Even though its a bit more forgiving than FE7, its def still one of my all time favourite games that i have on an emulator for my phone along FE7. One thing i do miss is when you would rank up your units was it felt like a huge deal because of how awesome the sprites were for Gameboy games. Ephraim and Eirika were my first dealings with Fire Emblem and ironically i had no idea marth and roy were a part of the series until much later (adulthood).
