But in the 30 years I been watching , I've seen not one guy better the Frazier running option!
An unliked opinion by me: Eric Crouch was the best QB to ever play for Nebraska, on a team that had next to no talent compared to Frazier's teams. Nebraska 1996 reloaded, won the title in 1997. Crouch played for a title in 2001, what happened to Nebraska after that? Crouch is not given the respect he deserves. It is possible that Frazier ran the triple option better, but was he better than Crouch, or did Frazier simply benefit from having a MUCH better coach who didn't turn his QB into the one man workhorse that Solich did to Crouch? Think I'm crazy? What if Crouch was on 1994/5 Nebraska, and Frazier were on 2001 Nebraska? We will never know... but I stand by my opinion.
He was preseumed to be drafted in the 5th round. The NFL didn't take many black qbs back then. He said he would've chose football if he was projected as 3rd or up. Its just the way it was back then. Nebraska’s punt return for a TD called back for a holding no camera angles could find and FSU’s fumble Nebraska recovered in the end zone is a 14 point swing. Still one of my favorite NC games but you hate to see officials affect the outcome of a game between two great teams.
Notre Dame gave away the championship by letting down and losing to Boston College after soundly defeating this Florida State that looked unbeatable and was having their best ever year. Before that loss, Notre Dame (#1) fans were screaming that they shouldn't have to play Florida State (#2) in a Bowl game after beating them. Nebraska was a massive underdog in this game. I think the line opened at something like 21 points but ended up around 17 to 18 points. The one common opponent was Kansas, Nebraska scraped by with a 1 point win while FSU beat them 42-0. Nebraska had two 1 point victories while FSU blew out everyone they played except Florida, whom they still beat handily and the loss at Notre Dame. The following year, Nebraska would finally beat a Florida team (Miami) in a Bowl game after getting beaten 6 straight times by FSU and Miami in the previous decade. Those losses resulted in 3 national championships even though Nebraska was not in the running for 1 of them (1991 against Miami). That win in the Jan 95' Orange bowl finally put Nebraska over the hump. The following year, Nebraska had the best and most dominant season, in my opinion, in college football history and beat another Florida team (Florida Gators) in dominant fashion. For the record, that wasn't the best college football team of all time, that honor probably belongs to 2000-2002 Miami, which had the most talent, even if there were other teams that performed better.

Absolutely great run!
I’m a FSU fan but Yeah that 1993-97 years Nebraska was a juggernaut. That 1995 was their best team ever and top 5 greatest team ever.
Close to 4 out of 5. 1996 they lost 2 in Frost's first year as QB.
There were also fortunate they didn't have to win the 1994 title on the field against the best team that season (Penn State). You could argue they stole that title.
I was a big FSU fan when Coach Bowden was there. But it surprised me how good this Nebraska team was. Just think, a missed FG at the end of this game, and that ridiculous 4th and inches play by Texas in the 1996 Big 12 Championship game were all that stood between Nebraska and five consecutive National Championships.
@daniel In 1996, had Nebraska beaten Texas, then they would have played Florida State in the Sugar Bowl, not Florida. Texas' win over Nebraska is what set Florida up for that rematch with Florida State.
@@tmarsh0307 1996 Nebraska got smoked by Arizona State also. I don't think they would have beaten Florida State.

I imagine this loss doesn't sting as bad for Nebraska fans though since their team went on to become *the dynasty of the 90's* and basically overshadowed FSU. Their 95 team is one of the best ever in college football.
Which horrible calls?

Corey Robinson Plus the money was better on the NBA. But, I agree with you.

That’s cool

Charlie McBride had a great game plan. This was a great game low scoring or not
Tommy Frazier , most unstoppable triple option QB in Nebraska and probably ncaa history? Tony rice was awesome but he passed like 18 times a game, low number but still double Fraziers output, Scott frost was great but in the 2nd tier with guys like Eric crouch, Craig Hagen , Halliway of OU , Tony rice, and few others I can come up with off top of head! But in the 30 years I been watching , I've seen not one guy better the Frazier running option!
Craig Hagen? Are you referring to Darian Hagan of CU infamy? I still have nightmares of Hagan beating NU in 1989.
Michael Bishop of K-State was the best college quarterback to ever run the option
Frazier should have won the Heisman in 1995. For whatever reason, Heisman voters did not like option QBs.
What tony Rice are you talking about passing the ball 18 times a game🤣🤣...Not the one that played at Notre Dame...Maybe 5 times a game
Charlie ward should have chosen nfl over nba...
Knicks fans were very happy that he didn’t.
YES, I AGREE. I WISH HE WOULD HAVE PICKED THE NFL. . .
He sucked with the knicks. Starks was the only player on that team.
He was preseumed to be drafted in the 5th round. The NFL didn't take many black qbs back then. He said he would've chose football if he was projected as 3rd or up. Its just the way it was back then. Tommy frazier was accurate enough for the nfl too. But unfortunately, until Donovan mcnabb and micheal vick showed up. Black qbs were rarely drafted high.
Warren moon gave 7 years of his careeer in Canada. He went undrafted. And thats after winning the rose bowl. Having a career 68% comp. And in the 70s thats like 80% now. Back then they just weren't considered. Doug Williams who lead the league in passing yards and took the 0-12 Tampa Bay bucs to two consecutive playoff appearances in two years and a conference championship game didn’t get his contract renewed. That would be unheard of today. Its just how it was back then.

Crazy to think this kick was the only thing that kept Nebraska from 3 straight undefeated championships
Would an offense like Nebraska work in today’s era?
I remember this game. Old Man.

Bobby Bowden was going home with a ring that night regardless what Tom foolery eeded to take place, and even though im FSU all the way, it still feels a little tanted to this day, and Nebraska started a 26 game win streak after this and had a 11 game streak going in! Just think they were that close to a 3peat and 37 game unbeaten that would've been 2nd longest in history behind OU 44! Peace # gonoles
Nebraska's offense didn't do much either... We manhandled you guys as well.. Florida State baby!!!
And Nebraska is lucky Warrick Dunn was not played for some unknown reason...
@@mp6697 And FSU is lucky Lawrance Philips did not start.
@@markheil1434 Phillips played though, Dunn didn't play at all..
lol so Nebraska played Miami, Florida State, and Florida back to back to back. Nebraska was a couple seconds from winning all three of them.
39.40 still gives me nightmares.
Bobby was a genius,, went to,that no,huddle when every body said it couldn't be done. Ha now every body. Does it even in,the pro's,,,
The best era of Nebraska football, where the players were on drugs, or committing domestic violence, or both. Osborne really kept it classy. He even went and fished players out of jail so they could play in big games.
I really feel for Lawrence Phillips. He had such a promising future on the gridiron, if it was not for his misconduct away from it. As a result, he was serving a lengthy prison term until he committed suicide. What a waste.
Charlie Ward shouldve went to the NFL. He wouldve been a All-Pro
If Lawrence Phillips starts this game I believe the Huskers win by 9.
They should have started Lawrence Phillips
No doubt.... So many wasted series with slow ass Calvin Jones and scared ass Damon Benning.
He wasn't developed yet.
@@lomarsweed6604 So what you are saying is, that the great OZZY made yet another stupid blunder in his career, right?
@@robjohnson8861 Not nearly as many blunders as you, Rob... Any chance you'll seek out a life at some point?
The real score should have read 23-18 Nebraska
Should have been 41 - 18 Nebraska.. they were that much better and I am not even a Nebraska fan.. although I always respected the program.
I remember this game, we were hosed by the refs
Love how you can tell the bias of the commentary
