Dear brother, our collective purpose as believers here is simply this; to lead others to Christ. As Paul explains in 1 Corinthians 12, we are all members of one body (the body of Christ), each with different gifts. You may be a hand, I may be a foot, another may be a lung. At the end of the day, we all work together for the common cause of Christ. Not everyone is called to be a Billy Graham. You may be the janitor a your local church. Does that not have value? If you don't clean the building someone else will have to. Likewise, if Billy Graham refused his calling God would call someone else. For most of us, we live quietly and mind our own affairs (1 Thessalonians 4). Aspiring to greatness for our own glory is our pride talking. There was a time when I was guilty of the same, so don't feel alone in this. Jesus said to the disciples in the sermon on the mount, "You are the light of the world." How can this be when he also said the same thing of himself? Paul gives us the answer. "I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me." (Galatians 2:20) Don't fall into the trap of judging the value of your life by the world's standards of greatness. If the Holy Spirit dwells in you, then you have the spirit of one greater than Caesar, greater than Alexander, greater than all. He is the light of the world. For the time being, discover ways you can use the gifts and talents God has given you to serve the people around you. If God desires to call you to something more, he will let you know and there will be no question about it. So rest firmly in the knowledge that you belong to him, live your quiet life, pursue love, and let the light of Christ shine bright as the noonday sun. For this, on the last day, Jesus will receive you and say, "Well done good and faithful servant."
