You know, especially with the way that world events are progressing, it's so incredibly important to sample, and therefore immortalize these incredible historic organs! Imagine if we had this technology in the 1930's before so many of the historic German instruments were destroyed! The Totentanzorgel in Lübeck, the Katharinenorgel in Hamburg, or even the Frauenkirche or Sophienkirche in Dresden!... I understand that by sampling instruments and immediately making the sets available for public use, it may disrupt the life of the original instrument. If I were the guardian or organist at a historic instrument, I would not hesitate to at least allow a sample set to be created but locked away for safe keeping, in order to allow the instrument to live on in the event of a catastrophe.
Such well-made sample sets from famous cathedrals always inspire me to travel, France / Rouen and St. Ouen are very interesting, booking a concert. And there are good restaurants too! Thanxs Samuel and Paul.👋👋👋

I really like this organ. I have learn the organ on a Casavant frères organ in Québec at college. The stops are almost the same. Thank you so much Paul. I must say that it sounds better than the Casavant I was playing, also because you are playing it !
Paul you open with a very lovey hymn tune which you develop into a thunderous sound - it is a great tune to use to develop the combinations available. Bravo dear friend.
Hallo, lieber Paul. Danke für deine Präsentation. Tutti/Full Organ ist wieder das Große Finale! Hört sich aber auch alles andere gut an. Das ist eben das Spiel von Paul Fey! Liebe Grüße von Steffen aus Görlitz. Bis bald.
Sounding great, Sam! Good demo Paul. It’s good to have 2 composite sets of St Ouen (seeing as though they are reluctant to have it sampled - even to raise money for a restoration!), and it’s even better to have an entirely free one! Cheers guys! R
Now I've finished this project, I can focus a lot more time onto Walbrook! Expect a couple of months sadly, because there is much more difficult processing to do than normal ;)
My mother has a very glad remind of a concert with my father in this church of Rouen (45 years ago, when my parents were engaged) she often tell me about it. Thank you for this demo ! Too bad GrandOrgue can't run it...
I did initially develop this composite on GrandOrgue! I am not sure whether to release it on GrandOrgue as most of the voicing was developed on Hauptwerk, and as the voicing needs to be done lots more than a standard sample set, it might sound a bit different from the HW version. I will still consider a GO odf but I'm afraid it would probably be unlikely.
My favorite organ in the world is probably St. Ouen. It's going to be silent for 4 years while work is done to the structure. Hopefully will have enough money saved up in 4 years so I can finally hear the organ in person. The sample here seems like it was done very well. Also a very good demonstration of it Paul!
@@johnsantrizos7638 sadly yes its covered right now for 4 years of restoration work to the structure. They had a huge recital in late 2021 as a send off for 4 years
Excellent Paul! I finally figured out how to get the two blue chamades to play. I have had this compilation for several months now. I originally thought that Sam could not find appropriate samples for these items - hence the blue text. But I saw that you have used them in this demo. So I went back to the interface and began playing around a bit. Sure enough! Once you said that the chamades were part of the Grand Orgue. It was just a matter of throwing on the ventil for the GO. Voile! We have ignition! I still am not overly sure about "French instrument layout" This is an excellent Organ Definition file that is worth having. I cannot afford any more sample-sets but offered up some ca$h to Sam for this compilation. Already I have practiced Dupré and Duruflé, plus some old Guilain or I should say... Johann Adam Wilhelm Freinsberg for the Pieces du Magnificat and it works perfectly. I am working up some Jehan Alain ~ Le Jardin Suspendu but am using the American Sample-set of Bellevue - Casavant. mainly because I needed two expressive divisions.
Thank you Paul for this demonstration. The St. Ouen organ is my very favorite. One of the best performances I've encountered on this fine instrument is by Kalavi Kiviniemi playing the Toccata from Widor's Symphony 5. That TH-cam video does justice to the acoustics of the building, as it showcases the voicing of the organ, and Kiviniemi's technique. Again Thank You! DJ in Knoxville TN
Thanks that was very well organised and never boring as some peoples run throughs of stops can be! Your musicality reminds me of the late Michel Chapuis who would run through in what he called Express mode 'his' great organ (Riepp 1754) of the collegiate church of Dole (Jura). Starting from the bottom of the organ, he added the mixtures to arrive at the Grand Plein jeu punctuated then by the reeds in size - all in under 2 minutes. A great skill I think you could do. Its on YT under the title L'orgue de Dole en moins de 2 mn par Michel Chapuis
Thank you Paul for a absolutely fantastic performance and presentation of this magnificent organ! Well played as always my friend!😁👍👏👏👏👏🐧🐧 Beautiful sample set Samuel!😁👍👍👏👏
Jake Purches recorded this organ (in DSD (SACD) with Jean-Paul Imbert, playing Franck, and this sample set is a great sound, and of course true to being there (imho)
Beautiful. I really enjoyed this. Also I am a fanatic for Chamades the St Ouen Chamades are amazing. Also as a request can you play Widor Toccata on this sample set?
A superb demo. dear Paul! I've been there, and heard the organ: it IS very loud, but one of the best C.-C. instruments, I believe. 😁🐧 The 32' Soubasse seems rather weak, but I suppose the Bombarde makes up for that.
Do let me know if it is louder - there wasn't a 32ft soubasse available for the composite so it is a revoiced 16ft bourdon. In the composite you can always revoice it slightly yourself if you like :)
@@PaulFey I'm afraid it's been too long for me to remember (18 years!), and I probably didn't hear the Soubasse by itself. With 20+ people all wanting to get their 5-10 minutes to play their piece, the kind of detailed demo that you do is usually not possible. What I remember is general: a huge sound, mostly due to the harmonic reeds, in a huge church - almost as large as the famous Cathedral of Rouen. 😄🐧
