Consciousness is fundamental, mind is elemental and emerges with quantum events I believe that is what will be settled as the reality. In relation to human evolution it has been posited in higher ages that there are fourteen versions of the human in a universal cycle. All uniquely human to a uniquely human prototype. Darwinism is wrong. There is human evolution to a prototype that is human there is no evolution from another species. Eventually that will be understood.
Suffering may be from duality. If there is Unity there is no suffering. To have anything manifest it requires two and two brings duality and opposition; good and evil. Humans are between them and have to choose. The choice sometimes from ignorance and sometimes from opposition to what is good brings suffering. The Middle Way has been advised in Religion, Philosophy and in Psychology, negotiating a path between opposites.
I cried after listening to this. These are the questions I've always asked in my brain, and seeing there are sciencetist who are now asking the same questions on fundamental reality, i feel very happy.
Swami is so happy. Go swami go. Some of us saw the convergence with Schrödinger’s and Bohr’s observations when they were confronted with the results of the new science. Wheeler,Capra, Zukav,Heisenberg were all taken in with the interconnectedness and non local nature of entanglement. Brahman Is. Rest is not. Swami’s joy is lovely to watch. As for Donald, what can one say. Persistence pays off. How lovely. Don’t expect quick transformation. Western science has a lot invested in their methods and to accept the fact that a bunch of guys, turning their bodies and mind in to a laboratory had SEEN the truth of reality. Lets remember that Hindu word DARSHAN (philosophy) means to see. The seers of the day had SEEN through the veil of maya. Swami, knock ‘em dead
"What an amazing talk! I've always wanted Donald Hoffman and Swami Sarvapriyananda to come together for a talk, and it finally happened!". Don I'm great fan of your work
I am so glad that Swamiji is conversing with other experts in tjeir fields. As wise as he is, juxtaposing Vedantic ideas with scientific ideas and testing them out against modern science is such an enlightening experience for listeners.
Truth has been unveiled in many ages in different ways, and I am honoured to witness this moment in science and spirituality in this era. This is one of the most beautiful and sacred way to experience truth. Thankyou for having pure intentions while pursuing truth.
Meaningful conversion between Don & the swamiji. They both give each other the space to have their views& opinion to be expressed . Happy to see that they respect each other . ❤ Beautiful dialogues between science and spirituality
When you posted the talk with Bernardo Kastrup and Swamiji, I'd expressed a desire to see Donald Hoffman in conversation with Swamiji!!! Thank you Philosophy Babble for this brilliant conversation!!
*I am very very amazed by how intelligent Sir Donald is, Loved his insights a lot and as always I love insights from Swamiji as his intelligence too never fails to amaze me.*
Humble pranams to Swamiji and Donald. Both of them coming together to have such a synergetic and insightful conversation has been a long-held dream and I'm glad this happened. Thank you!
Advaita Vedanta is a methodology given to us by our ancient rishis to help discover our true nature. That Space & time and this jagat all exist within Ishwara ( Consciousness +Maya) was known to our rishis thousands of years ago, brilliantly explained here by Swamiji. This truth is manifest in every aspect of the Hindu way of life. Now that the west has realised the fallibility of space & time, it might be worth its while to make a paradigm shift in the way the world is understood.
😇अहिंसा परमो धर्म 😇 ahiṃsā paramo dharma (“non-harm is the HIGHEST religious principle” or “non-violence is the GREATEST law”). Therefore, only a strict VEGAN can claim to be an adherent of the eternal religion (sanātana dharma).🌱
Well said. It seems that the ancient methods of inquiry into consciousness were very similar to the scientific method, the difference is that their "instrument" was their own experience. This is seen as unacceptable by most modern scientists, but they must realize, this rejection is only based on preconceptions. Our own conscious experience is the only "instrument" we have to explore consciousness.
@@nomadcrows consciousness/Consciousness: “that which knows”, or “the state of being aware”, from the Latin prefix “con” (with), the stem “scire” (to know) and the suffix “osus” (characterized by). To put it succinctly, consciousness is the SUBJECTIVE component in any subject-object relational dynamic. The concept of consciousness is best understood in comparison with the notion of sentience. Cf. “sentience”. As far as biologists can ascertain, the simplest organisms (single-celled microbes) possess an exceedingly-primitive form of sentience, since their life-cycle revolves around adjusting to their environment, metabolizing, and reproducing via binary fission, all of which indicates a sensory perception of their environment (e.g. temperature, acidity, energy sources and the presence of oxygen, nitrogen, minerals, and water). More complex organisms, such as plants, have acquired a far greater degree of sentience, since they can react to the light of the sun, to insects crawling on their leaves (in the case of carnivorous plants), excrete certain chemicals and/or emit ultrasonic waves when being cut. At this point it is imperative to consult the entry “sentience” in the Glossary of this Holy Scripture. According to this premise, the simplest forms of animal life possess sentience, but no noticeable semblance of true consciousness. As a general rule, those animals that have at least three or four senses, combined with a simple brain, possess a mind but lack an intellect. Higher animals (notably mammals) have varying levels of intelligence but only humans have a false-ego (sense of self). Thus, human consciousness is constituted of the three components: the mind, the intellect, and the pseudo-ego (refer to Ch. 05). There is a rather strong correlation between brain complexity and level of consciousness, explaining why humans alone are capable of self-awareness. In this case, “self-awareness” is not to be confused with “self-recognition”, which is a related but quite distinct phenomenon, found also in several species of non-human animals, in which an animal is able to recognize itself in a mirror or some other reflective surface. “Self-awareness” refers to the experience where a human over the age of approximately three years, is conscious of the fact that he or she knows (that is, aware) that he or she is aware. Obviously, in the case of a child, he or she may need to be prompted in order to first be acquainted with this understanding. For example an adult could ask the child: “Do you know that you have a toy car?” “Yes!” “And do you KNOW that you know you have a toy car?” “Umm...I think so...yes!”. In contemporary spiritual circles (as well as in several places within this book), the capitalized form of the word usually, if not always, refers to Universal Consciousness, that is, an Awareness of awareness (otherwise known as The Ground of All Being, et altri).
Such a great talk with so much mutual respect and a real, authentic will to learn. Hugely impressed by Swami and how clearly he conveys these ridiculously hard to grasp concepts.
This session is just like firey drink....so intriguing,so heavy, and I have to listen quite few time to get it....thank you...thank you very much... Just after quantum field theory...my learning about spirituality n physics starts to understand each other and depending on each other... To me, the quantum physics and the ultimate building block of universe made me thinking about the purpose of my existence. Like same particles formed a table n chair, food , air, light, water, my body... Now the table chair air water light air has their purpose, their forms n name really living their purpose.. So the name n form as me.. The particles must have some purpose through the maze of space time... What is that... And that is the point of looking into... Like is that all! Am I just name n form, of some particles, or something beyond that...!?
One of the best constructive / cooperative conversations I have heard. I liked when Dr. Hoffman said - “moon is like a headache” at around 1:42:41. Swamiji looks tired. Probably working too hard. Always love his lectures…
This dialogue of swami and Don, coupled with the 6 month old dialogue of swami and Bernardo will become seminal interactions with the passage of time for many researchers.
Thank you. I was having a feeling for the past few days that a conversation like this was imminent. Half an hour into it, and it's supremely rich conversation already.
The best talk between 2 different realms of the same reality , a wonderful collection of all the beautiful vedantic and scientific analogies in one talk , adding my drop on it , dream analogy ( my fav as it’s always relatable ) this talk and me listening to this talk feels like in my dream one person is taking science and another Vedanta , both trying to find the truth and making progress in own way with lots of beautiful discussions and debate and all of us you tube viewer are listening to it , trying to figure out what is means , why , how , when , the right the wrong , the dual and the non dual, etc etc ……and then suddenly I wake up 🙂…..to the ultimate TRUTH …. It was all ILLUSION My Final understanding that helps me after this talk Life a Time Pass ( Present moment with all its illusion - dream within dream ) In the end I ( consciousness/ awareness)am that alone single happy child doing this child play ( universe and creation) I am the one who did all this and I am the one who will not change any thing ( the dramas of creation ) because I am very joyous about every thing ( movie in the movie screen analogy ) 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you! Two of my most interesting thinkers meeting. Also loved listening to Swami meeting David Chalmers in another forum some time ago 👌The blend of philosophy, spirituality and science opens up for transversal discussions and thoughts, which is the one I prefer.
If you like this kind of talk,if you haven't come across it so far, there is talk between J. Krisnamurti and David Bohm, held in 1980. You can find it on TH-cam.
This reminds me of: "Professor J. Z. Young in his Reith Lectures on 'Doubt and Certainty in Science' dismisses consciousness altogether, because, if consciousness 'is a thing in the ordinary sense, it could be observed directly like any other object.' Since it cannot be observed, he concludes that it must be rejected as an 'occult quality.'"~~S. Radhakrishnan, "Religion in a Changing World," page 80.
My consciousness went to the singularity. It's an Infinite Abyss of Nothingness where existence doesn't even exist. NB: Swami's attentiveness is off the charts.
Donald Hoffman you are more right in your true approach , explore more into reality now in Fundamental reality ,hold it bit more silently understand that moment, you reached , without all that you know physically, keep exploring and evolving
Great discussion. At around 1:03:00, professor’s conversation of a computer understanding itself reminds me of “ekam bahu syam” in the scripture. To understand one (the non dual consciousness), the non-dual has to multiply (dual).
İf in the place of Sarvapriyananda were Vivekananda we would witness this. 1% of Sarvapriyananda's talking but special questions to the sceintist so that this scientist would become an ardent follower of Vedanta.
This is pure gold. I want to see more of it. If non-duality is all there is and time allows for this non-dual infinite reality to manifest itself, then Don should be able to find something true about it because this apparently dual reality is not dual, it is unique in every aspect. The mistery that needs to be solved in this case is the baryon asymmetry. The universe started with duality, but somehow, as it gained complexity, 1 in a billion particles kept existing, therefore, for not having an "anti-pair" of anti-matter. So, the discussion about duality vs non-duality in our reality doesn't stand anymore because the universe kinda solved it at the beginning by creating complexity that doesn't have the opposite. The universe seems to be asymmetrical all the way down and it's black and white reasoning that fails to see the uniqueness in everything. Nuanced reasoning is an observer and creator of complexity and it's also asymmetrical.
I think that advait vedant can contribute more directly to psychological sciences in the current discourse. I believe Swamiji would have given many insights in that domain but for the focus of this conversation being on natural sciences.
Very nice conversation. In this context following book is suggested to get more intimate understanding of philosophy in the light of modern science in simple mathematics coupled with intuition: SPACETIME AND THAT BEYOND By Unnikrishnan.
Another amazing conversation. I would watch any dialogue that Dr Hoffman is involved in and this one with Swarming Sarvapriyananda is wonderful for its spiritual insights. I just wondered as we are all a part of the one consciousness, in fact we are all one consciousness, we are all “god” or “Buddha” etc what is the one consciousness? Is it the ultimate good or divine as religion says? What is the reason to try and go towards being”good” or”love” is that just a concept in time and space and a murderous dictator or war monger goes back to one consciousness with impunity having shown that is what can be in time and space. I hope that makes sense. I want to lead a meaningful existence and striving towards love and creating value is that important? and why is it? I hope that makes some kind of sense. Thank you so much to everyone involved.
Thank you everyone for this candid and honest attempt at building bridges. To my understanding the human physiology and intelligence is still underdeveloped to be able to understand consciousness and parabrahman is still too far away. It is like say a cup of tea trying to decipher itself, is able to conclude that there is water, tea leaves, milk and sugar. But beyond that how the tea leaf grows and gets the taste, how the milk is produced, how sugar is produced, all that is beyond the capacity of the cup of tea to comprehend. Therefore I would say that in the future after several subsequent cycles of human birth and death, when some evolved spiritual souls take up scientific education, definitely they will be able to make more sense of things.
Profound discussion. Thank you for this! Very interesting to see the similarities between Don's perspective and eastern philosophy. Would love to see the two of you meet again!
Very exciting session. I was waiting to see both Swami and Don in a same session. Got my wish. One point though with regards to comment at 02:28:00. Swamiji referred to blankness and nothing with respect to deep sleep. There is a difference between nothing and blankness so we have to be careful with the usage. A good example of explaining sleep and waking is by using the example of a room. A room is well lit and you can see all the objects in the room (furniture, walls, floor etc..) is like the waking state. Switch off the light and there is utter darkness, no objects are seen, but they are not gone. Sleep is same as that dark room, you cannot say there is nothing, everything is there but hidden in darkness. Nothing means zilch, nada, nothing at all. The statement that there is appearance of nothing to consciousness in deep sleep for the enlightened one also does not seem right. How can nothing appear? Nothing means there is nothing, zilch nada. For enlightened one all the states are same there is just pure consciousness. In deep sleep there is just pure consciousness for a Jnani. For Ajnani in deep sleep there is mass of darkness in deep sleep, it is a state of nescience, neither the world is known nor the truth.
For the Ajnani in deep sleep there is removal from or loss of sensory activity, cognition and responsiveness. Could you please explain what if anything keeps watch over or observes the blankness of the state?
@@ananthan8951 do this thought experiment. Close your eyes and immediately open it. I will tell you between closing and opening your eyes you were asleep for 10 hours. Will you believe it. No. Why? Because you know the experience of sleep. You may not know the duration because mind is quiescent and so there is no space and time projection. You claim on waking up, I dreamt, I had a sound sleep. You can only claim something if you have experienced it. Otherwise you will say there are just 2 states waking and dreaming.
@@ananthan8951 the reference for deep sleep being a state of nescience is Mandukya Karika verse 1.11 to 1.15. So in deep sleep mind is not killed, the sleep knower, the “pure ego” is still intact but everything is covered in a mass of darkness. It is a causal state, all the mischief is still there in potential form ready to burst out at waking. As long as there is experience you are in the realm of ignorance be it waking, dreaming or deep sleep.
*Damn this is a freaking Gem in the ocean of philosophical videos. The example of Game and Avatar is what exactly how I always think of Maya and Brahman, also Donald unkowingly using example of "Avatar" exactly explain the accurate meaning of the same word. What a coincidence that he defined the mening of a word trying to give an example of something using that word.*
Both are truly wise men.Rightly all thoughts they consider are pointers & point towards the absolute truth ( but itself not absolute). As the absolute truth is infinite, hence in a way inexpressible also, hence ,the pointers may not be absolute . If all religions accept this, that their views are just one pointers & there are other pointers also ,as, ancient Hindus discovered( there is ONE truth ,but wise men express it differently ), then the hatred & violence certain religions causing ,would have been stopped .
Ancient vedic knowledge has always been proven to be true even by modern science standards. The information contained within them do not change where as modern science information are always been replaced by new information or debunked. No one knows where this knowledge came from but a higher scource. Vedic knowledge is for the world, no where in Vedic knowledge does it once mention India or Hindu. God gave this knowledge to India to share.
Are the similar views recited from near death experiencers valid in any way in respect to answering some of these fundamental questions, maybe not answering fully but giving some clues or insight to more reason as to the ultimate why. Near death experiencers seem to be taking part in unintentional experimentation with some interesting views and very similar stories upon returning to our local headset.
Finally at 1:09:18 Don asks the right question. Who am I 🙂. Swamiji's deep understanding of the Ultimate Reality leads him to this point. Bravo 👏👏
😂

This planet is surely doomed unless the most pernicious institution ever known to man (democracy) is replaced by the only legitimate form of government (monarchy - preferably a good monarch, though even a bad king is preferable to being ruled by an elected official who can never be good). Most of the problems in human society are directly or indirectly attributable to this relatively modern phenomenon, since it is the government’s role and sacred duty to enforce the law. Just because good and bad are relative, does not imply that they do not exist. They do exist but are relative. A democrat can never be good, despite appearing so.
One of the many sinister characteristics of democracy, communism and other evil forms of governance, is the desire for their so-called “leaders” to attempt to control or at least influence the personal lives of every single citizen.
For example, in the wicked, decadent nation where this holy scripture was composed, The Southland (or Australia as it is known in the Latin tongue), the demonic government tries and largely succeeds in controlling the rights of parents to properly raise, discipline and punish their children according to their own morals, limiting legitimate powers an employer has over his servants, persecuting religious leaders (even to imprisonment and death, believe it or not) and even trying to influence what people eat and wear. Not that a government shouldn’t control what its citizens wear in public, but it should ensure that they are modestly dressed, which is hardly the case in Australia and similar nations. Basically, the worst of the democratic governments promote or at least permit all things contrary to God’s perfect and pure will such as adultery, fornication, prostitution, pornography, homosexuality, gambling (even running lotteries themselves), illegitimate abortion of poor innocent unborn children, irreligion, drug addiction, disrespect for authority and promoting materialism and ignorance via a powerful network of institutions of miseducation (so-called “schools, colleges and universities”).
Let it be known however - democracy can not and will not endure. The truth shall triumph!
Democracy is only acceptable within large business corporations, where the shareholders must vote on who will be the company bosses and other matters.

“The cure for nescience is unerring knowledge”.
Two intelligent and rational humans, wonderful to listen to.
Science of old, meets science of new. Seeking the Truth, not just believing. Aum Namah Shiviya
Sri Paramahansa Yogananda said Science will prove religion. It will discover Spirit.❤💙🙏
Good suggestion indeed! 😊
*I am very very amazed by how intelligent Sir Donald is, Loved his insights a lot and as always I love insights from Swamiji as his intelligence too never fails to amaze me.*
i swear - i think i willed this conversation into existence. Thank you thank you thank you.
Two of my favorite beings! Together at last ♥️🙏
I have always hoped that there would be an interaction between the two of them. Thank you for facilitating this.
Our pleasure!
Humble pranams to Swamiji and Donald. Both of them coming together to have such a synergetic and insightful conversation has been a long-held dream and I'm glad this happened. Thank you!
🙏🙏🙏 what a conversation!!! Two great minds opening secrets of the reality!!
Omg this dialogue is another level altogether ❤❤,thank you 🙇🏻♀️🙏🙏🙏🎊🎊🎊
The greatest video ever . Thank you so so much
Glad you enjoyed it!
Vedanta is not given by rishis.. Its from God.. Shruti is from God.. Smriti is from rishis and others..

Are you a THEIST? 🤔
If so, what are the reasons for your BELIEF in God? 🤓
@@nomadcrows
consciousness/Consciousness:
“that which knows”, or “the state of being aware”, from the Latin prefix “con” (with), the stem “scire” (to know) and the suffix “osus” (characterized by).
For example an adult could ask the child:
“Do you know that you have a toy car?” “Yes!” “And do you KNOW that you know you have a toy car?” “Umm...I think so...yes!”.
In contemporary spiritual circles (as well as in several places within this book), the capitalized form of the word usually, if not always, refers to Universal Consciousness, that is, an Awareness of awareness (otherwise known as The Ground of All Being, et altri).
This is fascinating! I’m into science and I’m also on the non dual path so every word was very much appreciated.
Such a great talk with so much mutual respect and a real, authentic will to learn. Hugely impressed by Swami and how clearly he conveys these ridiculously hard to grasp concepts.
Wow! I was going through Donald's podcast with lex & thought of swami sarvapriyananda & here they are.....thoughts are universal!
This is one of the most intriguing and most fascinating conversation I had heard.
That was great! Very inspirational. Gets the gears turning. Those two are at the top of any class.
Couldn't agree more!
Absolutely!
Thank you. I was having a feeling for the past few days that a conversation like this was imminent. Half an hour into it, and it's supremely rich conversation already.
I know that The higher power is speaking through Swamiji 🙏🙏🙏
It was all ILLUSION
My Final understanding that helps me after this talk
Life a Time Pass ( Present moment with all its illusion - dream within dream )
In the end I ( consciousness/ awareness)am that alone single happy child doing this child play ( universe and creation) I am the one who did all this and I am the one who will not change any thing ( the dramas of creation ) because I am very joyous about every thing
( movie in the movie screen analogy )

My favourite philosophy advait vedant ❤❤❤❤
Thank you! Two of my most interesting thinkers meeting. Also loved listening to Swami meeting David Chalmers in another forum some time ago 👌The blend of philosophy, spirituality and science opens up for transversal discussions and thoughts, which is the one I prefer.
Very enlightening conversation...
A conversation between David and Firas Zahabi would also give great insights into what our minds seek of truth.
David who? Firas Zahabi? More precise please....
Thank you, Swamiji.
Swamiji beamed when Donald reached the ultimate question “who am I” 😀
What an interesting and inspiring conversation !!THANK YOU!!
so amazed to see and hear both the legends 🌸🌸🌸
Pronam Swami ji 🙏🏽
Two of my very favorite modern thinkers!
I marvel at your incredible patience with the baby step nature of this. And this reminds me one of my definitions of Love is patience!
What a collaboration Can't imagine I am watching this 🙏😍
If you like this kind of talk,if you haven't come across it so far, there is talk between J. Krisnamurti and David Bohm, held in 1980. You can find it on TH-cam.

Beautiful! I enjoyed every second of this talk!
Awesome! Thank you!
fascinating conversation
This reminds me of:
"Professor J.
Thank you so much for this wonderful video 🙏☺
Hope to see more videos of Swami with other scientists and philosophers
This is just an amazing conversation. Going beyond space time is so noble
Nice discussion to understand advaita vedanta
Wonderful, many thanks for sharing this
Many thanks
Fascinating conversation
Profound 🙏🏼❤️
My consciousness went to the singularity. It's an Infinite Abyss of Nothingness where existence doesn't even exist. NB: Swami's attentiveness is off the charts.
Donald Hoffman you are more right in your true approach , explore more into reality now in Fundamental reality ,hold it bit more silently understand that moment, you reached , without all that you know physically, keep exploring and evolving
Wow this vedio is awesome 👏 i
Great discussion. At around 1:03:00, professor’s conversation of a computer understanding itself reminds me of “ekam bahu syam” in the scripture. To understand one (the non dual consciousness), the non-dual has to multiply (dual).
What an engaging discussion!
thank you for putting this out
It was through Donald Hoffman I found my way to Hinduism. I look forward to listening to this.

This is going to be awesome. ❤
İf in the place of Sarvapriyananda were Vivekananda we would witness this. 1% of Sarvapriyananda's talking but special questions to the sceintist so that this scientist would become an ardent follower of Vedanta.
Spires, coils, sets, fractals, pointers, dancing of time wobble upon the belt of space.
mind storming discussion ❤❤i think hindu philosophy is closest to science perhaps both are coming or going to same destination
Ego is the product of evolution and simulation theory is a pointer to quench the ego's curiosity : )
Amazing, amazing discussion

Check out the conversation with D Hoffman and Rupert Spira. Hoffman is doing his best to inform his materialist colleagues.
Cultural Hero for me.
I think that advait vedant can contribute more directly to psychological sciences in the current discourse. I believe Swamiji would have given many insights in that domain but for the focus of this conversation being on natural sciences.

Great talk, probably one of my all-time favs, thanks for organizing it. Saw it on the Swami's YT page and now I'm subscribed to you too.
Awesome! Thank you!
You are the prior!
This conversation is a profound example of active listening skills.
Would love to see the two of you meet again!
whoa! my two heroes
An amalgamation of two very wise minds is ......💣💣💣💣💣💣💥💥💥💥💥💥!!!!!!!!!
Nice topic
This is a great interview!
@@arjunrathore8950 Thank you for the guidance.

Absolutely fascinating! And I like knowing where Donald got his interest in the subject to when he was a boy. 😀👍

Thank you Don the scientist to make casaulty questionable and making our thinking clear.
