I love when make up is done, and asking them to spray something around the bride. Catching that mist in the air and your bride feeling themselves looks so damn good. Great insight as usual, your channel is a God send, and a blessing for representation. Thank you so much again John!
@@bshack0 I will soon start my own photography business, I’m thinking mirror shots while they put their earrings on, and have a black and white option of that shot 🔥
@@venom0237 Makeup shots really are fun. I wish I had more control over them. I usually find them to have too much going on and the makeup artists usually don't pick a spot that's good for photos.
I definitely want to see a groom prep video!! I'm working as a second photographer for the first time at my cousin's wedding in a couple weeks, and I'm in charge of the groom prep so I know I can use all the tips I can get! (fantastic video btw!)
Great video John. I discovered you about a month ago and I've not stopped consuming your content. I've even decided to switch to the Fuji system because I just wasn't enjoying taking photos and lifting weights at the same time mannnnnnn. I got them skinny arms! Anyway just wanted to show some love and I hope Fuji buy you a house or something because you done brainwashed me hahah!
Exactly what I needed. My first solo wedding this weekend and I’m so excited but nervous! It’s a bit of a time crunch timeline so grateful to make a plan and go with it 🙌🏽 thank you for the great content!!
Hi John, thankyou for an awesome layout of what photos are important for a wedding prep. My niece is getting married next weekend and she's asked me to do the wedding prep photos. I've only done a few before and your great video has helped me put my plan together. Now I can make a list to check off and hopefully get all those important images.😊
Hello,im from malaysia,i really get lot of importent information from this video!!...my first wedding photography coming soon, and i try to look for something about what do i need to prepared and what sould i do for the first and important shoot...thank God i found this❤️❤️👏👏👏....wish me luck for my first wed shoot soon💪📸🤗..tq sooo much!
I'll tell you why flat lays are important. Did a wedding last week. I got there 1 hour early.. told the groom let me get the stuff for the flat lay.. and, he left his stuff at the hotel. Shoes and cufflinks. Glad I said something lol😂
Hey John! Do you check out the venue prior to the day of the wedding? And do you then determine where you’ll take certain shots of the day based upon that “recon?”
I usually don't. I like the excitement of a new location and figuring things out as they happen. So generally I just show up a little early and take a quick look and already know what areas I want to use. Many people recommend going to the venue prior but the reason I don't like that is because the lighting will never be the same. So you're really not gaining too much other than knowing where things are. I ALWAYS base my photos and locations off of the light and nothing else. Not the "oh this would be a good location". If the lighting bad it doesn't matter how dope an area looks, it's not good for a photo.
LOVE your videos. Quick q, when you say you show up early for dress and flat lay photos, do you charge for that extra time? I've been needing at least 30min to set up the flat lay, but don't feel right showing up early if I am not getting paid for my time. I've started telling couples they need to build that extra time into their timeline, but curious how others do it! also tip to other photogs: ask the bride who will help her put on her dress. I've had lots of brides whose moms have passed or aren't in their lives, so I try not to assume mom will be there and accidentally bring up painful memories!
I generally shoot everything in auto white balance and don't have too much trouble. If the white balance is really bad then I'll shoot in kelvin to make sure everything stays the same.
Irish photographer here; the trend started in the US but like most things it has made its way across the pond alright! Its mainly higher end photographers or those who are very detail orientated who do them. A lot of the bigger blogs/publications really want detail shots. It's a very Instagram friendly way of shooting details!
How do you right your own timeline? I always seem to be fighting with the planner over the timeline because they never want to be flexible with the time needed.
How do you figure out the time that you show up to do a flat lay based on the actual time they've booked you for? Say it's an 8 hour wedding and you had already agreed to come at 1pm. What time would you come to do the flat lay?
Just checked out Chasing Stone Flat Lay backdrops, thank for the lead! For size reference, are you using their standard or petite in this video? Loved the follow-up groom shots, also!
Hai, First of all, I love your work and all the video's you post. I learn a lot!! My question is: Do you always use the F wide open? When i watch your Lightroom video's, i only see a change at the iso and the shutter, is that correct?
I do generally shoot wide open. Since I’m on a crop sensor and most of my lenses are f/2 they’re sharp enough for the most part. I could always stop down some but I’m happy with where everything is.
@@jbivphotography thank you for your fast respons. So does that mean that wide open works better with a crop sensor? I have a fullframe camera, but its hard sometimes to get a portret sharp if i use it wide open.
Hey John, hope you are well! could you remind me please the name of the background enterprise you use? Last giveaway the background was one prize, but I forgot the name... you also share the website but I really can not remember. I appreciate your help.
What if you are stuck with a not so photogenic getting ready venue like a hotel room? My bride will be getting ready in a hotel room and then driving to the wedding venue.
Hotel rooms can be photogenic. You just have to be very intentional about your photos. I would take the same type of photos and place them close to a window to make sure the light was still nice. Go over to my website www.jbivphotography.com and you should be able to find some examples.
@@jbivphotography Your work is so good. Your wedding photo galleries literally have a sequence to them that tells the story & the intimacy of the entire day. As opposed to outdoor family portraits that I'm used to. I was Hired by a returning client to capture the "Getting Ready" Portion of the day.
