My wife is a wedding photographer and I’m her new second shooter. She has taught how to use a camera and has sat down with me watching and learning from these groom prep videos. I did my first groom shoot last week and it went perfectly. I was so ready thanks to yours and other TH-cam videos and of course thanks to my wife. 2 years ago when my wife started I never imagined I’d be shooting along side her. I went to every photoshoot with her to help in anyway I could to help her grow. From driving her to every location to being her personal assistant, having batteries, memory cards and lenses at the ready. And having quick snacks and water easily assessable lol and ya, 2 months ago we talked about me second shooting and we practiced everyday, watched these videos. And I couldn’t be happier, I love this, it’s so fun! I can’t wait to learn more and get better at this. Thanks for this video. It was extremely helpful.
Just got called for my first opportunity as a second shooter and the first question was: are you comfortable taking the groom's pictures? So here I am taking notes! Great video, John!
Heading off to my first second shooter job! Of course I had to come watch your videos. Thank you for your help over the years. I’ve shot 2 weddings as the main shooter with help from you. Love the videos!
JOHN!!!! This video is so needed! I was a second shooter for a wedding back in August, first wedding btw, and I was asked to take getting ready shots for the groom. I literally had no idea what I was supposed to shoot! I had never met the couple prior and the main photographer gave little direction. I took a “bathroom break” for a quick Pinterest search to gather some inspiration lol I’ll be saving this video for future reference.
Having only started shooting weddings last December, I always watch your videos before heading to a wedding! So I owe you sooo much for my know-how and general knowledge of weddings! Thank you so much!
I'll hold my hands up and say I am definitely one of those photographers that just stands back and let people get ready where-ever they want. I find it really strange directing people and feel like I'm encroaching on their day sometimes, even though during pretty much every wedding there are moments when i know full well that a certain shot would have looked better if I had directed them a bit. I guess I feel like I'm not part of their day and I should be standing back and letting it all happen organically...but I know that looking back they wouldn't have minded if i suggested a different spot. I think it just comes with confidence!
Fellow wedding photographer here and former groom, current Husband. I definitely appreciated direction and trusted the opinion of my wedding photographer with my groom prep. I didn't have time to think much about comparisons as photographers or think if my photographer was capturing key moments like I would etc. I say that to say this .If your clients are hiring you for you, my guess is they wouldn't even bat an eyelash at a suggestion that would make a better photo. "Do you mind cleaning up this area" is something that could be met with a yes or a no, "let me get that one more time " Do you mind if we go outside/hallway (where the light is) Never have I been met with resistance to these asks. You got this, imposter syndrome is something I still struggle with
i love your photos, vibe, and how friendly you are. That laugh is great! Thanks for all you wisdom to help me feel more at ease for my first wedding. :)
another great video full of tips, on a side note you are looking trim! Was going through some old videos of yours and you have changed a lot! great transformation
Hey John, hope you are well! could you remind me please the name of the background enterprise you use? Last giveaway the background was one prize, but I forgot the name... you also share the website but I really can not remember. I appreciate your help.
Hi! So Im a senior in highschool and I want to start my own photography business but I don't know if I should go to community college fisrt? I have no idea where to start and how I can start to make money? Did you go to college or how did you start? I love photography and having been taking photos since I was little. Any Advice? I would love to hear any suggestions! Thanks!
Nice job👍.Please make a video on bride's hands and legs are tied and groom are coming to save her.I really needed to know this types of poses for some specific type of campaign. So make video on this if you can.Love from gujarat❤❤.
Did a couple of shots where the groom gets a bit of makeup. It's a funny shot and people often tell me that it's one of there favorite from the prep shoot :)
@John Branch IV Photography Good morning, my name is Edgar. I made a purchase of the Natural Feels preset, in the button to complete the order, it sends me back to the purchase / payment page, is that correct? Won't they charge me twice?
I don’t. Generally I’m shooting with 2 cameras that each has their own lens. One is tight and one is wide. It makes it quick for getting multiple shots.
Good advice and tips, but definitely the antithesis of an organic photojournalistic approach. This is much more of the photographer injecting him/herself into the wedding day, and more or less creating and staging moments.
Make sure you go to the gym, because eating to much estrogen and your chest looks like a woman chest if you understand me. Great present btw, I learned something always. Peace!! 😊✌️

great advice

Nice! I haven’t had any grooms doing makeup but I can totally see that. Super cool. I’m all for things a little different from the “norm”

Appreciate the excellent advice!!!

Great stuff
Thanks so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Is groom prep generally easy for you? Or do you have reluctant grooms?
good stuff!
Glad you liked it!
Do you constantly change lenses to get the shots?
I don’t. Generally I’m shooting with 2 cameras that each has their own lens. One is tight and one is wide. It makes it quick for getting multiple shots.
any suggestion for a 2nd photographer? hehe
With these videos i feel like i might be a very hood photographer one day too
You got it!
Amazing session as always. Btw, you look like you have lost some weights.
There is no linkkkk😢
