      ChineseHealthyCook I have a question can you eat the actual soup or you just basically use it to cook the veggies and meats in it? Because I never see anyone eating the soup.

      @@coconadrecafe when we have hotpot, we start off by drinking the non spicy broth before we cook anything with it. The non spicy broth is actually healthy for you according to the ingredients she put in.

      Dominic Ho thank you, yes that’s how I do it, I just feel awkward because when I look around in a restaurant or watch videos, I never see anyone drinking it. But I always drink it before I start cooking and then at the end when I’m done.

    I bought a table top hot pot last year. I really like it. I found it at a local Asian market. I have done two hot pots (special family dinner every new year) and have learned a lot about what NOT to do and am hoping this year is my chance to shine. I am looking to make my own broth this year as the premade packages I have bought are not cutting it. Thank you for the inspiration. I like your dipping sauce ingredients.

    Is it 1tsp sugar for every rock sugar?

    • @ChineseHealthyCook
      @ChineseHealthyCook  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      still__4twenneCliCC A good question. It depends on how big the rock sugar is. I would say 1 tsp rock sugar is about 1 and 1/2 tsp regular sugar. Chinese cooking is not baking. You can add to your own taste 😊Enjoy! Thank you! -Ling

    What level of heat do you heat the dual-sided hot pot? 400f-450f?

    What you have presented is excellent for a more traditional hot pot.
    May I humbly request a meat and oil free alternative as well. Living in China for 5 years now and following a whole food plant based regimen, while the available food is indeed great if one eats meat and (LOTS OF) oil, the notion that many have that vegetarian/vegan options are actually commonly available (unless one cooks) is simply a fantasy.

      You can simply substitute chicken stock with vegetable stock and only use vegetables for the ingredients. Hope it helps. Thanks! -Ling

      There is this white broth that I see and I ate at a hot pot. They called it fresh pot and I also had the spicy pot the one your making on the other side. The one I had wasn't clear like chicken stock only. It was white almost milky but I didn't see any bone so I don't think it was bone marrow

    I recently had a hot pot in Glasgow and my table was the only westerners there, I found the different meats to be indistinguishable when cooked. I was also surprised to find that no one drank the actual liquid. Why is this?

    • @ChineseHealthyCook
      @ChineseHealthyCook  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mal big If you have duel hot pot, you may drink the soup on the non-spicy side. When cooking, try to track what you put in. Traditionally we hold the meats with chopsticks and dip in the soup so you don’t lose it 😀Thanks! -Ling
