When I first started listening to JLP, I didn't realize how intelligent he was due to his malaise nature and the way he spoke. Quickly I learned how thought provoking and logical he was in his thinking. I'm a fan!

It is funny because at the end his cognitive dissonance and contradiction was clear when he once again said "who is this we?" to Jesse saying we gave them all this help, just moments after he said he worked his own way up and that people (black) need help. So he is saying that he as a black person did not need help but other black people need help and since that help comes from the taxpayer he is part of that help and the "we" he so despises.
That rather points to him having a superiority complex over his black bothers who feels, unlike he, are not capable of making their own way in life in much the same white liberals do while at the same time thinking their conceit is helpful.

I was in 3rd grade in 1968 when schools were desegregated. It was traumatizing for everyone. There were fights daily. Some were violent. The blacks didn’t want to go to the white schools and the whites didn’t want to go to the black schools. I’ll remember that year for the rest of my life. Now they want to segregate the schools all over again. The black school was nicer than the white school.
My grandfather is kind of like Jesse before he passed away. I remember having heard a conversation about back in the day when it was segregation. And he looked at the person and said we were so busy wanting to drink out of the fountain of a white person we should have just made our fountains better. We were so busy trying to get into why people's schools when we should have just built ou our schools better. Instead of worrying about why people lived we should have made our area where we lived better. Well what can I say I'm 89 years old and from what these young people say I don't know anything interesting and then he would get quiet shake his head and siped his coffee
💕 I grew up with 'the Educated Black Man' role models like Belafonte, Poitier, Denzel, etc. This ended with the onset of MTV, Gangster Rap mentality (think: New Jack City) where education was frowned upon. This wasn't only in the 'black' communities either. As a teacher in the 80s/90s, this saddened me to no end.

When Jesse answered his first question with Affirmative Action, the shock on his face said it all. Amazing! The problem is the comedian guy is seeing things on too much a racial basis, while Jesse is trying to explain on a non racist basis. Jesse knows how to turn Liberal tactics against them, and they're not used to that, nor expect it. like the constant barrage of questioning without giving a real chance to answer.

Hence Jessie kept saying Americans this and Americans that attempting to unify the two. The comedian has fallen into the divide and conquer, the us against them, the, if one has money its because he stole it from the other. Jessie is saying we're all Americans and can solve the problems best from that perspective, which is true not isn't us against them it's all of us for each other. If the comedian wants to be upset he should at least be upset with the ones who has caused the problems. He knows civil rights is a great thing but he’s trying to send a different message. A message that says, getting equality is great, but taking more than your equal part and abusing the system has become a problem for your people.
Jesse Peterson is 73, a year younger than me. I didn't grow up in Alabama, but I remember being a 2nd Class citizen and witnessed the changes he describes. He's spot on in terms of events, not necessarily the sequence.
He is funny as hell.

Jesse is incredible. I am so glad you introduced me to him. I would love to just go out there and watch a bunch of his interviews, but I will instead wait and watch them as you post a reaction.
So when Jesse mentioned growing up on a plantation and remembering full blown segregation, I was like, “how is that possible”? I just figured he was about sixty. I looked him up on his Wikipedia page and this man is 73 years old. I was shocked when I saw his age. He looks great for 73. He did in fact grow up on a plantation in Alabama. He was raised by his grandparents on a plantation until he was in his teens. The plantation he lived on with his grandparents was the same plantation that had enslaved his great-grandparents almost a century earlier. He moved to Gary, Indiana as a teen and lived with his mother and stepfather. Wow!!! He has had to overcome and move past a lot to get to where he is today. 👏👏👏 to you Jesse.

This was my take on it... I hope it makes at least some sense, coming from my jumbled brain. 😂
I believe that Jesse is trying to teach this young man that "we" are all Americans and "we" are all God's children so "we" should be united, not divided.
Unfortunately, the young man can only see "we" vs "they". He's not getting the point that Jesse is trying to make, which is that we all need to stop focusing on the black race vs the white race and see each other as the human race.
