First time I played mortal kombat I was like “This is fine” After I hit the last checkpoint my potential A rank dropped to a C in less than 30 seconds and it took me a few more minutes to finally finish the level

But it takes half a second for the game to register the hit. In that time, because of the square's fast reflex and keen observation, the square was able to dash towards the triangle to revive the triangle right as it died. This effectively makes it seem like the square slapped the triangle to death when it was actually trying to immediately save it. Basically, the triangle was hit by a beam, game takes 0.5 seconds to register it. Square dashes to saves triangle immediately.
the only strategy i got for this is to only look at where to dudes come from and not my shape (maybe every once in a while i will look at my shape but only for like a sec) oh and of corse *pray*
never played JSAB but i've seen gameplay. on almost all the story songs i look at it like "how is this difficult" then i see Mortal Kombat and... dear god i fear it.
