If you notice almost every attack in "Close to me" friend is pulling in square (you) in to say "stay close to me" which is absolutely heartbreaking seeing friend battle corruption because the corrupt version is actually "fiend"

Agreed may I recommend the game Touhou. Compared to just shapes and beats Touhou make it seem like child's play. Overall both games are amazing. 10/10 for both!

Can we just appreciate that in Close to Me the player literally played that out with their movements that made it seem like the little cube was friends with the larger one >.>
Only thing is randomized are the dots/lil squares/projectiles. The big attacks are the same. In close to me yes, the big attacks order is randomized but you just need to pay attention to the signal of each one to be ready to avoid them.
I want to point out one thing that makes this so much better. If you leave a level and re-try it later, it will be re-randomized. BUT, if you don't leave the level and keep trying, all the little particles will appear in the exact same spots, making memorization easier.
This vid randomly came up after listening to some 2012 dubstep for nostalgia. I've never even heard of this game, but holy shit this is amazing. This is more impressively animated on musical time than any big music game I've seen. It's like the perfect music video for all of these songs
Absolutely begging you to watch a playthrough of this game as a person who grew up in that time, it will satisfy all of the nostalgia needed dubstep wise and has a few iconic songs as levels too
I really love how the player makes there moves to the beat and even plays along with the story. For example with the blue square when be broke out of the torment he was being put through the player went up to him. It’s a nice little touch that takes hella skill.

I cant count how many times i watched this video. Not only i like the music, the visuals, but most importantly - the incredible skill of author. And especially that he is not only doing levels perfectly, which is insanely hard (i can see it even without ever touching the game). But he also made cute little funny moves and dances by the cube to give it more energy and life. My favourites are 6:41 - how cube got "scared" by suddenly appeared walls, 10:02 of him giving a "kiss" to crying cube, and 12:03 - he is so happy to see so many new friends, jumping to each to greet them.

I like the boss but it isn’t my favorite because I don’t know why it even is there. It just shows up and dips. Like no previous or future plot relevance, just there for no real reason.
You should check out Project Arrhythmia, it's a very similar game (to the point of feeling like a ripoff, although it was also in development first), except it has a level editor and more freedom with colours.

I honestly really enjoy how you actively got involved during each fight and brought another layer into the story in "Close to Me" by using the given character movements to add a sence of concern and fear to the playable character which honestly made me think that for the in the the begining of the stage and when the boss character is trying to escape the saws the player loses control of the character for a small in gamecut scene! Spoilers below the see more! The boss in Close to Me is the player character's best friend, who has been corrupted. The song title "Close to Me" and the achievement earned from beating the boss level in story mode, "It's trying to say something" are both reference to the fact that most of the attacks force the player to be very close to the boss to avoid damage, a mechanic which implies the boss still holds their best friend near to their heart, even through corruption.
I like how all of Fresh/Blixer's bossfights are unique in their own way. Long Live The New Fresh is like a typical first boss, using a selection of attacking methods and mixing things up as the song progresses. The fight even uses a less bassy, more chiptuned version of Long Live The New Fresh, before later using the normal version when Fresh wakes up after a hard night of partying and the real story begins. New Game has a new Fresh, literally. And an incredibly wacky new moveset. Attack patterns don't exist during Blixer's first phase, and the first phase itself has the TOWER attacking you, not Blixer. The second phase however has Blixer choose an attack pattern to work with, and uses it for the duration of the bossfight. Whereas New Game had Blixer experimenting and testing the waters of his new moveset, Final Boss has him actually picking a strategy and just going with it the whole fight. This is actually very realistic, as generally when somebody brushes on their skills, they become less and less varied, as the person understands more and more what works and what doesn't. Possibly as a nod to New Game, the first part of this boss has the tower attacking you too. New Fresh started with you fighting a strange miniature cannon. New Game started with you fighting Fresh before fighting Blixer. Final Boss started with you about to fight Blixer, before fighting bigass cannon. What does Annihilate have you fight at the start? Blixer's bleeding inanimate corpse. Cool. Unlike previous encounters, Annihilate is a slow and intimidating track, the charm of nods to 1980's arcadery is sapped away and replaced with pure horror, until the beat drops and the intensity finally begins. Annihilate's attack patterns are slow, and like Fresh, they stick to a particular moveset. The difference is that Annihilate's moveset has multiple attacks going off at once, with most of them not even being connected to his body. The bossfight also ends with Annihilate actually winning, with the elbow room around you slowly shrinking before you're completely trapped. And when replaying the level, you just survive the chomp at the end.
my favorite thing about the annihilate fight is that it just...doesn't react. Blixer has facial expressions in New Game and Long Live The New Fresh, even reacting to some of his new attacks in New Game. The game lets you know that "hey, this isnt Blixer, this is a whole new thing" simply by making annihilate not show emotion. even when its dying in Till Its Over, it just. doesn't care. one of my favorite bosses in game.

I cant count how many times i watched this video. Not only i like the music, the visuals, but most importantly - the incredible skill of author. And especially that he is not only doing levels perfectly, which is insanely hard (i can see it even without ever touching the game). But he also made cute little funny moves and dances by the cube to give it more energy and life. My favourites are 6:41 - how cube got "scared" by suddenly appeared walls, 10:02 of him giving a "kiss" to crying cube, and 12:03 - he is so happy to see so many new friends, jumping to each to greet them.

one thing I really love about JS&B is that its an AMAZING visualizer for the music.
Some of the attacks arebt properly synced, as you can see in long live the new fresh but yeah, they are pretty cool.
They don't just use the Boss theme, they ARE the boss theme.
You should check out Project Arrhythmia, it's a very similar game (to the point of feeling like a ripoff, although it was also in development first), except it has a level editor and more freedom with colours.

I honestly really enjoy how you actively got involved during each fight and brought another layer into the story in "Close to Me" by using the given character movements to add a sence of concern and fear to the playable character which honestly made me think that for the in the the begining of the stage and when the boss character is trying to escape the saws the player loses control of the character for a small in gamecut scene! Really well done !

I just love how violent and intense the Close to Me fight is. And emotional, because you see your little block friend crying and struggling to control themselves. (I've played this game but I just named most of the characters myself)

Somehow I really felt bad for boss in the "Close to me". I've never played this game, but this battle scene made my heart shatter in little pieces...

The boss in Close to Me is the player character's best friend, who has been corrupted. The song title "Close to Me" and the achievement earned from beating the boss level in story mode, "It's trying to say something" are both reference to the fact that most of the attacks force the player to be very close to the boss to avoid damage, a mechanic which implies the boss still holds their best friend near to their heart, even through corruption.

I like how all of Fresh/Blixer's bossfights are unique in their own way. Long Live The New Fresh is like a typical first boss, using a selection of attacking methods and mixing things up as the song progresses. The fight even uses a less bassy, more chiptuned version of Long Live The New Fresh, before later using the normal version when Fresh wakes up after a hard night of partying and the real story begins.
New Game has a new Fresh, literally. And an incredibly wacky new moveset. Attack patterns don't exist during Blixer's first phase, and the first phase itself has the TOWER attacking you, not Blixer. The second phase however has Blixer choose an attack pattern to work with, and uses it for the duration of the bossfight.
Whereas New Game had Blixer experimenting and testing the waters of his new moveset, Final Boss has him actually picking a strategy and just going with it the whole fight. This is actually very realistic, as generally when somebody brushes on their skills, they become less and less varied, as the person understands more and more what works and what doesn't. Possibly as a nod to New Game, the first part of this boss has the tower attacking you too.
New Fresh started with you fighting a strange miniature cannon. New Game started with you fighting Fresh before fighting Blixer. Final Boss started with you about to fight Blixer, before fighting bigass cannon. What does Annihilate have you fight at the start? Blixer's bleeding inanimate corpse. Cool. Unlike previous encounters, Annihilate is a slow and intimidating track, the charm of nods to 1980's arcadery is sapped away and replaced with pure horror, until the beat drops and the intensity finally begins. Annihilate's attack patterns are slow, and like Fresh, they stick to a particular moveset. The difference is that Annihilate's moveset has multiple attacks going off at once, with most of them not even being connected to his body. The bossfight also ends with Annihilate actually winning, with the elbow room around you slowly shrinking before you're completely trapped. And when replaying the level, you just survive the chomp at the end.

my favorite thing about the annihilate fight is that it just...doesn't react. Blixer has facial expressions in New Game and Long Live The New Fresh, even reacting to some of his new attacks in New Game. The game lets you know that "hey, this isnt Blixer, this is a whole new thing" simply by making annihilate not show emotion. even when its dying in Till Its Over, it just. doesn't care. one of my favorite bosses in game.
