    Damn, even as the owner of two Gibsons... These are tempting. I've owned three epiphones in the past and currently only own one, they're good guitars - but these look like a cut above! So happy to see Gibson expanding more into the medium-grade professional ranges I'd hoped they would. Regardless of the name on the headstock what you're looking at is Gibsons direct equivalent to Fenders Mexican range, now that the update has occurred, I'd say.

    Epiphone and Gibson by proxi were the 2020 NAMM winners. The New 50's and 600's Standards alone may have gotten them my vote, but the headstock modification was a nice bonus.

    The headstock is definitely a great change, I didnt even notice it, its so natural. The old headstock was elegant and fancy, I didn't mind it, it was epiphones own thing. I forgot it had the ears cut. I bought a blemished one on an impulse. Great looking rig.

    • @Healcraft
      @Healcraft 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SaxJockey on further research I think the classic gloss indeed has the same pickups but different pots, so it probably is different, plus different pickups of the same model can be wound slightly off / wire gauge varies slightly, and even identical pots have a tolerance range too

      @@Healcraft I have two Epi LP ES Pro guitars (LP shape, ES 339 semi hollow maple Ply construction, mahogany centre block), both have Probuckers, just different colour body. Both play great but I prefer the sound of the second one I bought (least preferred colour 😂). I will in time work out what's causing the difference in tone. Starting with the differences in set up (bridge pick up height, stopbar height, string gauge/fresh strings). Not so easy to check the pots on the ES (access through f holes, no back cover plates).

    Weak point on these guitars will be the pickups. Although the tone around 4:00 is very good.

    • @ithemba
      @ithemba 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      true, its the weakpoint with epis over all - which is kinda sad, considering how many great affordable PUs there are and how i.e. squiers CV just went and got them some great PUs and that what makes all the difference.
      That being said, just go and buy a set of toneriders for 70 bucks and these guitars are perfect. But still, for over 400 bucks, they should have great PUs as well, considering the competiton.

It is aweful with my 68pedals china clones in a HB 5W Tube amp, no need to spend more money, and I'm fine with the PUs, play it with an extremely modded VOX PF 10 too, maybe I'm not really most objective... does the blues I play and my beloved 70s/early 80s Hardrock as well.
