      Due to its flexibility and portability, the Navy is probably flying more actual combat missions with more aircraft on the average day than the Air Force. This does not imply they are bigger, just more portable.

    Great video. I served on this ship from 90-94 in an F-18 squadron (VFA-15) as a Parachute Rigger. Working nights, there were a ton of night sorties all the time. I’m still amazed at how refined operations were and carried out. It was a well oiled machine. Everything had a specific process. Glad to have had the experience.

      jenell73 true. It has around 90 Aircraft which include, but are not limited to, FA-18E/F Super Hornets, C-2 Greyhounds and SH-60 Seahawk Helicopters, while my country, the Philippines, only has 12 FA-50 Golden Eagle LIFT/Light Fighter Aircraft.

    Its so mind blowing that something so massive can basically travel the world indefinitely without having to refuel.
    I understand essential stuff needs replenished all the time to keep it going, crew supplies, maintenance, oil, grease, whatever. but for propulsion, it can go for years.

      I think it can go 20 years until it's power unit has to serviced, but then it's out of commission for at least 6 months during that time. But it's good we have so many lol

The people here who need the US for protection are stuck while those that could ensure payment and support have private jets and villas across the globe to escape to when everything is extracted or when we're on our own against a powerful enemy like China.

    I've been on the USS Theodore Roosevelt. My high school JROTC went to Norfolk Virginia. We got to go see the Theodore Roosevelt. Well she was Docked. They have a painting of Theodore Roosevelt on a horse on the hanger wall

    Nothing within the military can't ever top the USN. Being a naval aviator is the epitome of any known job in the Navy. Nothing compares this unique experience. I will always love the United States Navy. Anchors awaigh!

    Amazing to think that the majority of a carriers' enlisted crew (to included all the aircraft support personnel) are only about 19 years old, and most of the pilots are no more that 25.) That's a tremendous responsibility, guys. Thanks for doing it ... and doing it so well.

      Military is a young man's game and is not for old people. By 20 I was serving in an elite military unit capable of penetrated deep into enemy lines and carrying out raids.

      @@bighands69 I remember an interview with British infantry officer during the 1st Gulf War after a video of his troop leaping out of an APC in battle gear. The reporter asked why the soldiers were so young, average 19 yrs. He was blunt. 'Much older, they have wives, kids. They pause, think about what they're doing. That's no good to me'.

    Years ago I was out salmon fishing in British Columbia. An old US Destroyer came up the sound. Canada buys a lot of old US military stuff. You cannot get an appreciation for how big these ships are until you see them from water level. This Destroyer was massive, yet 1/3rd to 1/2 the size of a carrier. Don't look from a dock. Get in a small boat and look up.

      Right near where I live in the US is a shipyard of demissionned US ships, planes, and submarines. You can go inside them, it’s a really amazing experience

    I spent 4 yrs on one... I was MM3 AC&R Shop A-Div(Gang)... what a blast... one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made was getting out !!! IF YOUR IN STAY IN !!! I can still hear every sound in detail... and the food is 100% 1st cabin... best ever !!!

      Once a person is in and has become "acclimated" to the service way, best to stay in and reap all the benefits, I think. I'm sure things in the various military forces are different today than I remember.

    Around the 4 minute point, "Mark" is in VFA-22, known otherwise as the Fighting Redcocks. The squadron motto "You can't beat a Redcock!" Way back when there were separate fighter and attack squadrons, the squadrons were VA and VF, "The Fighting Redcocks" were VA-22 and flew the A-7E Corsair II. In 1976 to 1977, I was an Aviation Electrician on the USS Coral Sea (CV-43).

      A rather dismissive view of the country that saved western civilization from tyranny. If you fly a commercial airliner, or navigate the seas, you are required to speak English while communicating. There’s a reason for that... The English navy peaked at the right time to secure the seas and the primacy of their language.

    I spent six years in the Navy I spent time on four different aircraft carriers, and two Ten month deployments, first one was on the USS Ranger, second one was on the USS Carl Vinson both were to the Persian Gulf, all my time was on the flight deck, almost all at night, and I don't remember ever being afraid and it was some of the most awesome days of my youth, im 56 years old now and I'm sure I would piss my pants if I had to cross that deck during flight ops now....lol

      I just trip on the fact that THE U.S. HAS about 10 of these behemoths. Not including the hundreds of other types of vessels including the nuclear subs. It costs millions of dollars a day to even operate. And that's just one ship.

      There was not a coffee shop on board when I was there in the '90s. Back in y day we had to make our own coffee using canned coffee and notebook paper for a filter. 😎

    I’ve had the pleasure of working on the USS Roosevelt even tho I’m not military… as a shipyard pipe fitters I’ve been all over that ship plus multiple others… I love being on board these vessels truly an unforgettable experience

    My Cousin a Captain USN Retired Naval Aviator, second to last assignment was to serve
    as the Navigator of one of these Floating Air Bases. He always says it was the best
    experience of his over 25 years of Service. He had many Cruises on Carriers as an Aviator during his time, but the responsibility of actually plotting it's movement was the most rewarding.

    It is really nice the Free World has these carriers, I think they won the War in the pacific. But I sure could not do this type of duty and I was a ranger in the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell. I consider this a very high Hardship duty on this type of ship. Thank you to anyone who is serving or has served on one of these, you gotta be superpeople.

    Impressive ship! I was with the first airwing aboard her after she came out of the yards and we got her flight deck crew trained and ready to receive her permanent airwing. One thing we didn't like about her was the layout of the airwing berthing on the 03 level being open with the passageways running right thru them, hard to get any sleep while you have black shoes running by your rack all the time!

    The American Navy is probably the most influential military force in the world. It's the only true blue-water navy in the world, it has an impressive air force, excellent ground forces (Marines), and long range strike capabilities.

    I did a two week long deployment with my helicopter squadron (HS-1) aboard CVN-71 the USS Theodore Roosevelt. That was way back in 1991 I think, or maybe '92.
