Wow, that dead stare if you actually force him to drink her blood is chilling, he is dissociating so hard.
Yeah... God... the voice acting is amazing enough, but the level of detail in facial expressions and the way play of light is used in their eyes to mimic how emotions show in real eyes... it's just on a level I've never seen before. Asking him to do it is so pragmatic and makes so much sense, but then you really see how this isn't just about her blood being gross... how deeply it wounds him to be used as a means to an end again... The way he just slips back into his act being seductive toward the Drow he clearly hates like it's second nature, but his eyes look so empty... Ooof. Just oof. He's such a well crafted character on every level.
he says "trading _me_ for some potion" he sees himself as a commodity, as a service fit for transaction
i'm going to throw up
"Not to your taste?"
Astarion: **Pukes violently**
0:14 Is it just me or is anyone else unreasonably obsessed with how Astarion will sometimes just stare at you like that during dialogue? That man is in love and I will not be convinced otherwise
I hate to burst your collective bubble, but that's just standard animation for _any_ companion who happens to be standing to your left.
When I met her again in Act 3 it was on sight, nobody talks to my man like that!
I'm normally not one to kink-shame, but Araj deserves it.
The kink isn't the problem in my opinion... Astarion doesn't inherently take issue with people wanting to be bitten... it's the way she dehumanized him, which comes down to her culture.
interesting, astarions dialogue was a bit different with me when meeting her again in act 3, i wonder if its related to approval or something? when i said "we can leave if you dont want to be around her" he said "oh she doesnt bother me THAT much, if anything i pity her"
@@juandelacruz3023 You meet her again near Jona's house (the woman missing her daughter in Baldur's Gate) and her lab is right beside it. She talks about how powerful your blood is (literally exploding her lab with it) and then if you run into her and talk to her again, she'll try to convince Astarion to bite her again and then Astarion says no and tells you not to give her anymore blood or help her.
Aaaaw, yeah, it's probably something to do with a character development flag from whatever went down in act two. That's sweet of him to look at it that way.
The dog collar u put on astarion, im dead
Tbf it’s the fist thing I put on him along with the succubi kinky gear. Gotta dress my property up nice…
@@DarTunwarm his whole arc is about being treated as a sex slave for 200 years 😭 y’all are so thirsty
@@oszaszi No, it's another collar that could be found in the Underdark.
I decided to try my hand at romancing Shadowheart during my playthrough and I absolutely love her to bits, but that hug and Astarion almost timidly offering his hand for Tav to hold is just so sweet. I just might have to try and romance him in another playthrough, hehe
Huh. If she didn’t treat Asterion like an object I would actually find her amusing more than anything. But the way she treats our companian very quickly takes her from “amoral but fun alchemist you may find interesting” to “Depraved mad scientist” The developers really nailed what makes a character detestable with her. Being typecast as “evil” is usually not quite enough on its own if a character is also interesting or entertaining. But being shown treating others poorly, especially if its an established character? That really does make you hate a character as opposed to being indifferent or intrigued. They really did apply this idea well with damn near all of the actual “Villans” in this game vs characters that are just “evil” If that makes any sence. Point is, i’m a sucker for good character writing and this game is better than 90% of the books out there.
I like snarky rouges. I cannot lie. Baulders gate has always done a goof job of making companions that are not black and white and cover the whole D&D alignment system effectively. Asterion is easy to interpret as an objectively a “Bad person” And with the how meany options are built into the story and allowing for opinion and taste I dont think there actually is a “Right” way to think about Asterion. And even “Good” aligned characters could find an excuse to make him drink from her without being at all OOC. Yeah. I really am in awe of the sheer amount of thought they put into making this a true RPG experience for their players. As for my own alignment, broody elves with white hair and tragic backstories are kind of a thing for me. (Blame dragonage) Its a fair assumption that my attraction to his character would change my perspective on his actions in the game. as well as how I play it. Wow. IDK if that comment was ment as a bit of snark or an actual moral point, but thank you for giving me something to think about. I don’t think i’ve actually read any anti-Asterion comments before and a new perspective is refreshing ☺️. Plus you have started to make me wonder how people (me included) Would feel about Asterion (and some other “evil” characters) If they where not also attractive in some way?
@@LaFonteCheVi if you played his story or got to know his character you would learn that the Astarion you meet at the beginning is just a facade and that under the face he puts on for strangers and cazador dinner dates, he is deeply flawed, scared, traumatised and damaged in ways that can never be truly ‘fixed’ in the span of the game.
@@DarTunwarm That's why I don't hate him. But I don't like him either.
I mean, in the romance ending with him he basically claims you as his possession. If you tell him no at the end? he makes it pretty clear you don't have a choice.
Also, I wouldn't trust him with a lick of real power. He makes it *very* clear from very early on that he almost worships the idea of having power- but also that he's abuse the fucks out of it if he had it and not feel even a little bad about it.
@@AsaelTheBeastIsn't that ending the evil one? I think u only get that one if u let him ascend.
I felt so awful convincing him to do it, but really wanted that strength potion for Karlach. But it still feels dirty, knowing that Astarion was bossed around for 200 years
Ive read that people are saying you can tell Astarion to not bite her, and then pickpocket her? Havent done it myself, but maybe thats an option for the best of both worlds?
@@maggielandrey7232 I heard you can't pickpocket if from her though, like she doesn't actually have it with her.
On my first run I told Astarion "Do what you like, though we could use that potion" and he decided himself to bite her.
I thought the scene was hilarious as a neutral choice until after he threw up. I didn't realize telling him explicitly it's okay to refuse her led to such great character development dialogue.
I definitely know my choice here now lol
Given that you were neutral, did he get mad at you and end your relationship at the camp, or was he more understanding that it wasn't really your intention for him to feel he had to do it?
With people like him, you really don't want to use "you're free, but here is my Idea or course of action If you ask....." unless you want to manipulate him with a fake veneer of "I never commanded you"
I don't think it's neutral, I think it's veiled pressure ..
"We could really use that potion though" is technically putting a responsibility on him... If he does no choose to bite her, he will feel guilty for making you miss out on the potion, so he will bite her.
Bottom line: He doesn't want to, he said no, and you really don't actually *need* that potion, it's a plus but not a requirement. His autonomy is definitely more of a requirement..
It's actually NOT a neutral option. The first instance I saw it I knew because I've dealt with this kind of manipulative sentencing way too much first hand. People will tell you it's your wish but then immediately tell you what you SHOULD do based on what the group needs. Which removes the FUCKING CHOICE btw.
If you really want me to decide, let me. Don't ask me to do whatever I want and then say "we could really use some of that thing you have there". Just fucking say that you want that thing, we need it so if you can please. End of story. The roundabout is not required but then that's how manipulation works - you guilt trip someone into doing something you wanted them to do and make them feel they are making the choice. It's as good as a command instead of a choice. If I don't oblige, then I'm left wondering whether I upset you or not...I'm left with guilt for something I'm not supposed to be guilty about and it's horrible.
Sorry I just had to let it out.
I call this girl the Twilight fan in the D&D world and I hated her so much xD
😂😂😂😂😂 but on the other hand, we also like Astarion doesn't that makes us Twilight people?
Me staring at the collar like 👁️🫦👁️
I think I'll probably kill her at a later point for speaking to Astarion like that xD
Just consider that she doesn't actually understand why it's even bad to talk like that for cultural reasons. She didn't understand at all and seemed like from her tone of voice and expression she thought she was being perfectly reasonable and friendly. Drow are hated and feared because of what their culture is like, but the ones who grew up in that culture often don't understand any other way of seeing things, much like the way most Githyankee are. Someone said there's an encounter you can have with her in part 3 where Astarion tells Tav he doesn't really hate her and actually pities her.
Honestly for a drow she's actually NICE, that's the fun part of it, just compare her to Minthara. But yes please kill her she's gonna cause mass genocide with your blood-potion lool
Being a drow in my first playtroughs i aldready knew her family name, and the fact that they used to do experiment with the illitidh. She probably will result disgusting in real life
Ngl- your Tav is more handsome than all the love interests combined. Which is saying alot while standing next to Astarion
If Astarion was real i couldnt stop hugging him. He's such a precious man and i love him with every fiber of my heart. I can't let people doing what they want with him even in a evil campaing, it's disgusting and i refuse to do that. I hope every man in this earth who is a victim of abuses could find peace from their abusers like astarion did
suddenly i wonder if i may enter combat, kill her and loot the promised potion, and walk on her corpse on the way out with no issues
I feel like this drow is a blood domain cleric like Cree from Critical Role, considering her obsession with blood and all
Even though that cleric subclass is unavailable in Baldur’s Gate, still can’t help but imagine lol
If you play a drow, you learn her family did experiment with illithid, and your character wonder if she experimented on her own blood, explaining the taste and smell
If you leave her alive in act 3 you learn she plans to use your blood to cause mass genocide and has been poisoning baldurians for a while with free potions. Oblodra is a very interesting family in BG lore, basically they're fucked up experiments that's why their blood are foul, she's trying to reprove her family's worth with Tav's blood potion and if she doesn't succeed she's just gonna explode everything lol so yeah remember to kill her if you care.
Wow, I'm gonna feel real bad when I'm drinking that potion.
Oh well, I'll just do another playthrough where I don't whore him out lol
I guess for him it's like the difference between being asked to have some kind of intimacy with a normal person, when he doesn't want to, vs being asked to have some kind of intimacy with a zombie, when he *really* doesn't want to. The regular person is bad enough but something he's too used to just gritting his teeth and dealing with, but the zombie? Ew ew ew ew, no! So in that regards she serves as a good motivator to get him to at least try to establish some boundaries (which makes it all the more icky when you do manipulate him into biting her then worm your way through the fall out dialogue so he doesn't break up with you (difficult, but possible)).
0:50 Dude of all the content in the game, THIS is the first intense trauma trigger I’ve had, thank god they didn't show it 😂
Love that during this scene you have him wearing the dog collar. Shes like "a vampire spawn traveling with a true soul, with a DOG COLLAR on?? Yeah hes owned"
The collar you put on Astarion tho like he's your pet. 😅
3:21 "Alexa, please do maximum emotional damage to my heart…"
Really makes me wonder how much great conrent like this ive missed
I have no idea who she is.
Ayo, tbf, being a walking C4 in human shape that only hurst others, but you, whenever they bleed you, is quite the Bargain
I think she is really fun character. She made me laugh several times when I met her again in Baldurs Gate
Hearing the people's reaction to her dialogue, mostly screaming "Whhaaat?" When she's like "Oh I prefer if you do" has been gold 🪙😜
I think in the latest patch she even turns her head towards Tav when saying "I'll even compensate you", so she's not actually speaking to Astarion but to us.
Even after we told her he's his own person she still talks to us as if Astarion is our proprety and we need to be compensated! It makes me feel sick, it's like she's putting Tav on the same place as Cazador.
I can't wait to reach Act 3 and burn her to a crisp with my fireball!
"Yes.All mine."
Which face did you use for your char? Best looking male I've seen so far! I tried making a male high elf but the faces are all so ugly!
How did i miss this:(
Firey blood? So she was trying to turn herself into Lady Maria
hahahaha the Tav's shrug at 4:42 its hilarious
I was sleeping with you for fun not to deal with this, ARE SOME PEOPLES FIRST REACTIONS TO SOMEONE SPILLING THEIR HEART OUT IS TO TURN THEM AWAY IN A VULNERABLE MOMENT? It's vile that that's even an option
It wouldn't be very good roleplay if you were only allowed to be a good person.
@@ANPC-pi9vu yes I know, i just love that blonde bunch of code and pixels sooooo much!

3:40 tbh i wish that was me 😅
I never saw her because I made the Raphael deal confession at first and then no one is in that cellar lol. A shame that I never met her. Because then she's not on Baldurs Gate on her house :/
so ur just gonna have him wear that collar huh ...........
bish my first reaction is to let him decide I might be just decent person
I could never do that to my puppy.
I didn’t find her in act 2 so I wonder if I’ll even see her in act 3 😅
I wouldn't mind having her as a companion considering you meet her in Act 2 more easily than Jaheira or Halsin. Her banter with Astarion would be amusing
Agreed. She's a compelling Drow character because she generally comes off as well meaning and friendly but her culture is horrendous by our standards, but she can't help if it's the only way to be that she knows. Would be so cool to try to help her understand the value of individuals and that even if hierarchy is natural and necessary, treating people lower in hierarchy as mere objects with no agency is not. She honestly came off as nice to me despite how disgusted I was at her calling Astarion our property... she was so oblivious and confused about the party's dynamics. When she did speek directly to him, she wasn't mean, she just didn't have the same understanding of feelings and personal boundaries.
God, could you imagine playing as ether her or Astarion to make them interact and get to know each other directly? So many interesting possibilities.
how he waer a dog collor ?
What actually is her accent? (Genuily curious, non native English- speaker here). It really gives the idea of someone who is annoying, though. I suppose they do it on purpose?
Vampire fangirls, I swear man.
They're really something..
He is hot as sh!t though, and I am happy this player gave him a hot as sh!t boyfriend too. 😆
Am i the only one who had a crush on her?
And, would the sex with her feel "corrupted" ?
A second question of mine ! :D
me seeing just some unusual collar on someone 😅😊❤
I really don't appreciate that you have Asterion wearing a dog collar
some people just like collars yknow.
obviously I can't speak for everyone, but personally I'd put it on him simply because he looks fucking great with a collar.
its just a piece of leather, no? really just an accessory unless you make it weird

is astarions collar a mod? i found one and the first thing i did was give it to him but it doesn’t show in game
It’s from a nexus mod - basketful of equipment- I believe it’s called
I think you can use dog collars on companions. There’s a few videos on it
@@kendelle4216 yeah there is a mod that has the dog collars, but if you use the dog collar in the brothel with no mods it doesn’t show..at least it didn’t show on Astarion when I put it on him. It went in the worn equipment slot but nothing showed on the character.
The fact that this included gay choices with Astarion was gross and awkward as fuck. But at least now I know what the other reactions would be if I made other choices. So, thanks for that.
I…there aren’t any gay choices, they’re all the same. You can just say that you don’t like seeing gay people and leave lol.
Astarion is clearly gay coded and he talks mostly of his male past lovers. Also it is an RPG they need to make the game inclusive to all. I personally in my opinion but also as a fact think your ignorance is absolutely absurd in 2024 and there's no excuse to be that fucked over a game. Gtfo
The most distressing part of this scene is how much control Astarion gives Tav. Tav has no real authority over Astarion, doesn’t threaten him, and isn’t the sort to throw him out of the party for a minor disagreement. (At least, the game doesn’t give us the option to throw any companions out over minor disagreements.) While Tav is the group leader, s/he usually has to pass persuasion rolls to get companions to do something they don’t want to do. Yet Astarion feels that Tav gets to make the final decision, no persuasion rolls needed.
It’s a reflex born out of his time with Cazador. We see it in the “you should learn to enjoy sex” scene, too. Once Astarion has time to think, he reconsiders and takes his agency back, but in the moment, he obeys. If Tav “lets” him do what he prefers, he’s much too grateful. If Tav presses even a little, indicating a preference rather than giving an order, Astarion defers, even when it means drinking poison. Or having sex he doesn’t want.
In a good playthrough I will protect this vampire's dignity and humanity at all cost. In a bad play through I will make the decisions that use him, win him back over, and after he ascends submit to him as his spawn out of guilt and support the fuck out of him becoming powerful enough to never be used again. Both narratives are so damn compelling.
I really feel like he's the new Zevran, but the budget and tech were actually there for this character's narrative to fully come across where as most players never figured Zevran out in DA:O. The same core themes around horrific trauma, slavery, dignity, redemption, agency...
It's simply just a gelded, submissive mind in a mindset that could be seen as a constant state of being pre-co-opted into doing anyone else's will, with sprinkles of Stockholm here and there
