Chris I love your Reviews...it's nice to see someone keep this system real and going. I had a TurboGrafx 16 when I was younger. This by far was my favorite games for the system. Only thing I wish with this game it was longer!! Be nice for you to have a Top 10 T-16 and a top 10 Super CD games list!!
Discovered this one via the Virtual Console. Of the many "ninja" games on the Wii VC, I think this might be my favorite one. Liked the extra personality you put into this particular review. :) Keep up the good work!
This absolutely took me back to 1993/94 when I was only in the first grade and quite young, yet I knew this game pretty well and played it on a regular basis.
You are correct. I played Ninja Spirit at the arcade when I was a kid and was so excited to get it on the TG-16. I was actually amazed at how different/better it looked. The arcade, while more detailed, is extremely bland and has no contrast between objects.
There was a time when I rented a TG16 from a local video store and this was one of the three games I rented with it(along with Bonk and Dungeon Explorer). It was fun.
just found your channel, and it is awesome! i subscribed right away! love your reviews and love the turbogafx 16! btw, you have a great voice, perfect for reviews!
I know, you don't hear much about it. You know? Then again......what Turbo game gets fan-fare? That's why I'm here.... ha ha! :) Hey, thanks for watching and happy holidays!
It's okay, we all have our "likes and dislikes." You know? You should see the flack I get when I negatively review a game someone else likes....LOOK OUT! Ha ha. :) Thanks for watching!
I recall seeing this game in a Toys R Us Christmas catalog or something when the TG-16 first came out. I thought the cover was really cool and wanted it,but I never got a TG-16. Looks like one of the best looking games on the system.Oddly it doesn't seem to receive much fanfare.
I found out about this game about a year ago, and damn was I impressed. The gameplay is unique and solid, and I think that's where this game truly delivers.
Another review I missed out on due to being a lot on deviantART. Awesome job as usual, Chris! The intro cracked me up, especially at the last laugh where it broke into a cough. Funny!
Yeah, Arcade mode is just nuts. Not only can you just take one hit but certain enemies are even tougher to kill as well. Great review and Ninja Spirit here is definitely one of the great show cases of the Turbografx-16 abilities.
Someday if I can get the game, I'll definitely put it on the Import review list. Got about a hundred American games to review yet........ ha ha. Happy Holidays my friend!!
Used to have this one and ordered it again after buying my TG-16. Best game of all the other ones I've had. A TG-32 or 64 would be awesome but that's never gonna happen.
All people who has a Wii I strongly recommend to download this game because all Irem games will be only to 30 March 2012 and then they´ll be deleted because Irem broke up. The affected games are: all R-Type games (includes the snes games), Vigilante, Ninja Spirit, Legend of Hero Tonma, and the wiiware game Military Madness Nectaris. So don´t lose this oportunity.
Great Pc engine game. I also dig Liquid Kids, Son Son 2, Coryoon, Legendary Axe 1-2, Soldier shooters, etc. What a system. What a great series as well, thanks a lot
Been playing Ninja Spirit and Vigilante on Final Burn Alpha and I'm honestly kind of surprised at how closely their respective PC-Engine/TurboGrafx 16 ports resemble the Arcade versions. Obviously the music isn't quite up to snuff, but that's a given
Awesome review!!! Totally enjoyed it :D I just bought Ninja Spirits not long ago and I can't wait to play it! It's a kick ass Ninja game for the PCE!!!
Agree that this game shines! Do you know this is one of the games that the PC Engine throws out in high res (it's like a widescreen as compared to the standard 4:3 output)..I only know this because the HuE emulator for the PSP (do you have that?>) plays on CPU mode, pixel for pixel, and you see it there. Legend of Hero Tonma is another one. And another classic game too! Will try and work my way through your reviews....splendid work bro!
Awesome!! :D Great game and a great port of the arcade. Certainly not 1:1 with the arcade, but quite close especially considering how it was an early pc engine release. A funny story on how I originally purchased this game bitd. I rolled $80 in pennies with looseleaf paper and scotch tape and then walked across a frozen lake in the middle of the winter with a backpack full of pennies to get to the mall so I could pick up this game. Fortunately, the salesman at Radio Shack accepted them. heh
@CyborgNinja7 I don't know the exact measurements but ninja spirits when played on a PSP or PC emulator on 1:1 pixel ratio, is a wider screen than the standard, so you're getting say 300 x 170 pixels rather than 170 x 170 pixels. On a 4:3 TV screen you probably wouldn't see any difference.
This game was bad ass... I used to go to play it at Radio Shack back in the day... lol. I couldn't beat the 2nd last round though, the one where you fall. Beat it on emu... so pissed that I was so close to the end at the time.
Ah yes, I love this game. I have it for Virtual Console on my Wii. I saw a copy of it yesterday for sale at a retro game shop but I decided to get Last Alert instead. Maybe I'll go back for it next time I'm visiting home but it doesn't have the manual or case & I've really come to appreciate the charm of the often hilariously bad Turbografx box art.
@avenuePad, I realize your comment was made 2 yrs ago but something has to be said, the Turbografx version of Ninja Spirit spanked every level/stage of it's arcade counterpart (watched the entire playthrough), there was nothing superior..actually looked bland both in graphics & sound compared to the Turbo version.
Ninja Spirit does seem very cool. My personal favorite is the dopleganger! I mean, who doesn't like having a three person army of yourself attacking at the same time?
my fav 2d ninja game alltime is the turbografx 16 ninja spiirit it only feels right on real hardware with a turbopad hows the minis controller do they feel tight the turbo bad was a great controller felt perfect for this
Just wanted to inform spida1a and everyone that Ninja Spirit (as well as R-Type and Legend of Hero Tonma) are back up on the Wii Vitual Console! Nintendo must have renewed their license with IREM to get the games back. Awesome!
Ok i had never played this game before and while i was over at my friend's house he was playing it on a emulator and after i saw it i knew i had to have it so i went home and jumped online and ordered the PC Engine version and i have been loving it for almost a year now.

@neversaydie97 Totally! Thanks for watching and supporting the show.
Thanks for the support. I'm so glad you enjoy the reviews as much as I do putting them together. :)
You are correct. I played Ninja Spirit at the arcade when I was a kid and was so excited to get it on the TG-16. I was actually amazed at how different/better it looked. The arcade, while more detailed, is extremely bland and has no contrast between objects.
I had a turbo gr16.this was my favorite game and splatter house. Bloody wolf
Same here, loved this game. Dam im old...Lol
This game is available on the Mac App Store as part of Irem Arcade Hits.
Thanks for the review. It encouraged me to pick it up!
There was a time when I rented a TG16 from a local video store and this was one of the three games I rented with it(along with Bonk and Dungeon Explorer). It was fun.
It's great to be back on YT and seeing one of my favorite reviewers.I have not played Ninja Spirit in years!
cough cough
just found your channel, and it is awesome! i subscribed right away! love your reviews and love the turbogafx 16! btw, you have a great voice, perfect for reviews!
Hey, glad you're still watching'. :)
The sound is still there, it's a little quieter that's all. Ha ha.
Thanks again!
I know, you don't hear much about it. You know? Then again......what Turbo game gets fan-fare? That's why I'm here.... ha ha! :)
Hey, thanks for watching and happy holidays!
Ninja Spirits was one of my Favorites in 1990 and I still Play it on my Analogue Pocket today.
Great Game.
It's okay, we all have our "likes and dislikes." You know? You should see the flack I get when I negatively review a game someone else likes....LOOK OUT! Ha ha. :)

Wohoo! Ninja! Ninja! :)
Thanks for watching! Happy Holidays!
Ha ha. Yeah, got a little carried away, eh? LOL!
Thanks for watching!
Ha ha. Yeah, got a little carried away with telling the plot. Ha ha. :)
Thanks for watching!
Hey, thanks so much. I'm glad you enjoy it!
Thanks for watching!
Yeah, I didn't like Tiger Road quite as much a NS. That is for sure.
Thanks for watching, as always!

Yes, it's a great game.
Thanks for watching!!

Hey, me neither. You got one I can borrow? Ha ha. :)
Thanks for watching!!

Awesome job as usual, Chris!
The intro cracked me up, especially at the last laugh where it broke into a cough. Funny!
Awesome, thanks so much for watching!
Thanks a lot for watching!!
The replay value was pretty hgh for me. Beating it on arcade mode always left me with a satisfying sensation. :-)
@MrCumstein Totally! Thanks for watching!
I do too. Always will be probably one of my favorite genre of games.
Thanks!
@CyborgNinja7 Most definitely! Thanks for watching and commenting! :)
that big first boss was the thing i remember most about the early turbo ads
Yeah, Arcade mode is just nuts. Not only can you just take one hit but certain enemies are even tougher to kill as well. Great review and Ninja Spirit here is definitely one of the great show cases of the Turbografx-16 abilities.
Definitely a gem in the Turbo library! Great review!
I agree. It is really a shame.
The wikipedia page has an interesting theory about why there wasn't a sequel.
Thanks for watching!
@jakal911 I hear ya'! Love it too! Thanks for taking time to watch the video. ;)
Someday if I can get the game, I'll definitely put it on the Import review list. Got about a hundred American games to review yet........ ha ha.
Happy Holidays my friend!!
F'n A man. Thanks for watching!
Oh, definitely. Ha. You really feel like you own the game with all those guys around. :)
Thanks for watching!
I am suprised that since this game came out in the beginning of the console short life span their was never a sequal. Excellent review like always.
Wow this is awesome. Loled at the intro of the game... it's basically the same thing that happened to Ryu Hayabusa!
Awesome review again man!
Game looks like fun to me. Arcade mode looks maddening though haha.
Hey my friend. I was excited to see your video as well.
So, when are we getting some beer? :)
Happy Holidays!
Not surprising that the coolest system out there attracts the coolest people!
@Prophecy2fulfill Very cool! I love the game, too! Thanks for watching!
Used to have this one and ordered it again after buying my TG-16. Best game of all the other ones I've had. A TG-32 or 64 would be awesome but that's never gonna happen.
Oh ugh. I remember trying "arcade" mode once when I was a kid.........notice I said "once." LOL! :)
Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoy it!
Have a great holiday!
Ha ha. You were pretty desperate. LOL! :)
I can relate. Thanks for watching!
Hey, thanks so much. Have a Great New Year!
My gaming uncle introduced me to this gem...I love the soundtrack, and the game itself. Beat it last week...Great fucking review! Cheers!
The music was off tha chain in this 1. Some of the best on any system.
Thanks. Happy Holidays!

Aww, Ninja Spirit, one of my favorites. Great review.
Hey, awesome. Thanks so much!
Happy Holidays!
Great review! ninja Spirit is a great game and one of my favorite early titles on the TG-16.
Great Pc engine game. I also dig Liquid Kids, Son Son 2, Coryoon, Legendary Axe 1-2, Soldier shooters, etc. What a system. What a great series as well, thanks a lot
This is a very visually appealing game. Nice job with the video editing! I really enjoyed the funny intro!
*Cough cough* =P
Hey, you too. Thanks so much!!

@Polywanacraka Cool, thanks for always sharing your opinions and watching the vids my friend. :)
All the Irem games are back up on the Virtual Console!
Spida1a TurboGrafx 16 just released this game on the iPhone its the TurboGrafx - 16 GameBox app
Awesome!! :D
Great game and a great port of the arcade. Certainly not 1:1 with the arcade, but quite close especially considering how it was an early pc engine release.

Really top notch reviews. Subscribed.
Definitely. Happy Holidays my friend!
Awesome video I've been wondering about ninja spirits.
Eh Merry Christmas!
Image Fight (also made by Irem) has a very similar sound test screen! Never messed with the sound test in Ninja Spirit!
My favorite Turbo game
Awesome reviews :D
Turbo Grafx games look awesome
what a beastly ninja game! loved it!!
Same here. Definitely! :)
This game was bad ass... I used to go to play it at Radio Shack back in the day... lol. I couldn't beat the 2nd last round though, the one where you fall. Beat it on emu... so pissed that I was so close to the end at the time.
I LOVED this game! Way better than Ninja Gaiden.
Ah yes, I love this game. I have it for Virtual Console on my Wii. I saw a copy of it yesterday for sale at a retro game shop but I decided to get Last Alert instead. Is Ninja Spirits the best tg16 has to offer in terms of graphic design displaying utmost of the tg16 console?
Wohoo. Thanks so much
@MrCumstein Fantastic! :)
Ninja Spirit does seem very cool. My personal favorite is the dopleganger! I mean, who doesn't like having a three person army of yourself attacking at the same time?
Happy Holidays to ya too dude!
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing that! :)
