Yea you had to learn languages back in those days. Luckily it helped give people mentor xp so usually it was pretty easy to get someone to teach you. Wookies also had super limited gear options. I was so bummed when I got to end game. They eventually added wookie equivalents for gear I think.
The amount of burner emails I used to get over 100 individual trials of this as a kid is insane - spent so much time on this game despite not being able to buy it

So many amazing memories from SWG. Back in 2003 there were NO mounts in the game. Not even animal mounts. You had to walk everywhere. And the universe was MASSIVE. We used to start huge 50-100 player krayt dragon hunting groups in mos espa. We would lose at least 50% of us on the dangerous hour long walk to the krayts and then the krayts would wipe us all out in seconds LOL. But it was fucking brilliant

I wanted to get this game as a kid back in 2007-2008. My mom said I might want to by a car some day. Then when I was in high school, they just bought a used car for me and SWG was dead 😭.
This game is unforgettable. Some of the best times of my life I was playing this with my cousins and the close-knit community I was with during it's prime. Never experienced anything like it after that.

@@dirtySwingset Yeah that game was epic because of the community, run to cantina get buffs, chat up locals for group, have fun flying to all the objectives to kill and loot animals or enemies. Even Pvp was so amazing, run around covert looking for overt rebels or imperials, ambush them with a group only for the entire town to turn overt and becoming a massive battle. Just chilling in the catina, start hearing laser noises, check outside and it's full flegded battle with Darth Vader, and you break out the Rancor pets haha There's so much potential in that game, such a shame no other company has done anything like it. Doesn't even need to be Star Wars, the whole system would work for fantasy type rpgs too.

I’ve had my SWGEmu files since like 2009. I sometimes fire it up to play around and it’s still a ton of fun. I prefer the EMU edition since it’s the Pre-CU version of the game and becoming Jedi is still a huge undertaking. Literally one of the greatest MMO’s in existence.

What an awesome game. Total sandbox, you could do anything. As contrary to what the big shot in charge of development said, I LOVED being Uncle Owen. For anyone that doesn't get the reference, a big shot that wanted to make major changes to the game to make it more action oriented felt that players wanted more action and less role playing, and he made the infamous quote "No one wants to be Uncle Owen".
Played this game for years when it was live, still one of the best games I've ever played, so many good memories, and I still play with some of the people the I've met online more than a decade ago.
Many fond memories of stumbling through this game while being far too young to understand how to play it, having come from playing WoW. I think I spent most of my time decorating my home (which I placed in a near-abandoned player settlement with zero activity) with bits of crap that I'd accumulated.
This game was so incredible, still is. If you like the Mandalorian, you can hunt krayt dragons for pearls (bring friends) and bounty hunt other players =)

The idea back then was actually amazing. Everyone played someone non force sensitive and trained in combats and even making furniture as seperate classes. Only the very hardcore people were Jedi and it was actually a spectacle when you saw one.
I'm actually Surprised that galaxies has servers still. I found out about the game through the extra content with Empire at War, and my brother owning the manual for the game. Unfortunately, I had discovered it for myself right after they had shut down the servers, so I never got to play the game. I'm definitely happy now, seeing that fans are trying to revive the game, and it seems I have another chance to play it. Thank you, Micky. For both the laughs, and for spreading awareness of the game.
I can relate, but I think that's more in line with Disney's want to turn Star Wars into an even bigger "golden goose". They've done the same for all of their other properties, like Disney princesses being on fruit gummy boxes, etc. I also kind of think that it's one of the many factors of why Star Wars, as a brand, has been ruined in years past. It's a constant reminder that the brand has been beaten like a dead horse, and in a disrespectful fashion at that. Not to mention the newer generations talking about "Disney's" Star Wars, and not what we grew up with. I wish things would've gone a different way, and it really sucks seeing the fanbase in shambles, although the Mandolorian and bad batch has been good, so I'm kind of mixed about Star Wars at the moment.

Back in the late nineties, my brother was volunteering as an lds missionary, meaning no girls and no games for two years. To keep him go something-something, my brother spent his free time designing a Star Wars themed RPG. He called the game... Galaxies. So when this game was announced, not longer after my bro returned, it felt like a glitch in the Matrix.

Funny story - my main on this server was a jedi, and i had done everything to get him maxed out except get a certain collection item called “sith holocron 4/5 waistpack” (people will remember how rare this fkin thing was), for reference it sold for between 45-60m pretty often because of how rare it was, and i was farming for it constantly so i could finish my build. Then one day a see an announcement that a guy is holding a little event to win one in a week, so im gonna go there fully expecting not to win but it could be fun finding all the items on the list he was gonna give us. The day comes, i show up on time, AND NO ONE ELSE SHOWED UP, dude sounded so sad and just gave it to me lmfao ill never forget that wookie, i still feel bad for him but hey saved me 50m/a year of farming, just by trying to participate in the community lol
I played it again in 2020 and someone tried to get me into some bondage roleplaying. Which wouldn't have been an issue if it wasn't supposed to be set in a different universe. You either bondage roleplay with me within the Star Wars universe or you don't bondage roleplay with me at all!

I remember wanting to play Galaxies for the longest time. When I finally got a computer and internet good enough to play SWG, about a month later the NGE hit. Originally it was an awesome, fully sandbox MMO. All the gear in the game was crafted by players and we formed big hunting parties to get mats and xp for skills.

I played the open beta of this around 2003 before wow was released and I don't remember any of these places. Back then you just started on tatooine without any of that tutorial with han solo or the other lore characters.
super niche but i enjoyed playing the other older version that has the super hard to get jedi/sith stuff. Really satisfying grinding up a master martial artist bounty hunter. tried to make a crafter but that grind makes my brain hurt.
OMG! THIS GAME! I forgot all about this...I was a insane pilot, just spent all day fighting nasty rebels. What's funny is I was a menace in space able to out gun almost everyone I meet and this made me rich but on ground I was really low level and like one hit by anything.
It was fascinating how this game worked with all those professions that sometimes never tied to “leveling” your character. You’ll never see something like this ever again sadly

When I played this Jedi was like this mega hard to obtain prestige class that you had to jump through a bunch of hoops to play. I vaguely remember people not being pleased when they changed that

I got this game for my birthday as a kid but my Dad wouldn't let me run it on our computer... he was always real weird about playing games on it. I spent so much time just reading the box art but after all these years I had completely forgotten about it but now I'm so sad I missed out on this, I would've had so much fun with it!
I was one of the original beta testers for this game and played it daily until the Combat Upgrade. I then played it less often and quit entirely when the New Game Experience happened. I was part of the ITEC on the Tarquinas server; such a great group of players. I occasionally play on SWGEMU but it's not the same as the golden age of SWG.

Loved this game. My fondest memories of the game are starting my own town on Tattoine near a Kraft Dragon spawn point, using the nudity mod for my Twi'lek dancer (the mod only affected what you saw, not what other players saw) and having players ask me "Why are you in your underwear?", and of course my Imperial officer character with his own TIE Fighter and "pet" Stormtrooper.

I can relate, but I think that's more in line with Disney's want to turn Star Wars into an even bigger "golden goose". They've done the same for all of their other properties, like Disney princesses being on fruit gummy boxes, etc. I also kind of think that it's one of the many factors of why Star Wars, as a brand, has been ruined in years past. It's a constant reminder that the brand has been beaten like a dead horse, and in a disrespectful fashion at that. Not to mention the newer generations talking about "Disney's" Star Wars, and not what we grew up with. I wish things would've gone a different way, and it really sucks seeing the fanbase in shambles, although the Mandolorian and bad batch has been good, so I'm kind of mixed about Star Wars at the moment.

It's the popular opinion to not like the prequels, etc. And if you like them you're a weirdo. People are sheep. There's always something to love when it comes to Star Wars, if you ask me. Of course there are many things that I wish they would have done or would do. But that's not how it works. People are pathetically in need of something to bitch about, and it's just sad. I choose to not be a part of it and enjoy this amazing thing. Because that's what it is. If it's not that way for you, or anyone though, more power to ya.

Bespin just opened up on the legend server. All new map missions armor and craftables. And don't forget about the Jedi theme park they added. Both of these are exclusive only to the legend server.

Funny story - my main on this server was a jedi, and i had done everything to get him maxed out except get a certain collection item called “sith holocron 4/5 waistpack” (people will remember how rare this fkin thing was), for reference it sold for between 45-60m pretty often because of how rare it was, and i was farming for it constantly so i could finish my build. Then one day a see an announcement that a guy is holding a little event to win one in a week, so im gonna go there fully expecting not to win but it could be fun finding all the items on the list he was gonna give us. The day comes, i show up on time, AND NO ONE ELSE SHOWED UP, dude sounded so sad and just gave it to me lmfao ill never forget that wookie, i still feel bad for him but hey saved me 50m/a year of farming, just by trying to participate in the community lol

I played it again in 2020 and someone tried to get me into some bondage roleplaying. Which wouldn't have been an issue if it wasn't supposed to be set in a different universe.

The fact that this game is playable in any way has me excited, cause I've heard amazing things about this game and never got to experience it cause I didn't know about it until the servers were removed.

I remember wanting to play Galaxies for the longest time. When I finally got a computer and internet good enough to play SWG, about a month later the NGE hit. Originally it was an awesome, fully sandbox MMO. All the gear in the game was crafted by players and we formed big hunting parties to get mats and xp for skills.

A friend of mine has tried to get me to play this for the longest time. Maybe I will actually try it. Being part of a close knit community sounds very wholesome and fun. Maybe you'll see me somewhere someday, in a galaxy far far away long long ago.

I played the open beta of this around 2003 before wow was released and I don't remember any of these places. Back then you just started on tatooine without any of that tutorial with han solo or the other lore characters.
I used to buy subscriptions for this game from blockbuster. I missed it so much when it got taken down. So much nostalgia.
super niche but i enjoyed playing the other older version that has the super hard to get jedi/sith stuff. Really satisfying grinding up a master martial artist bounty hunter. tried to make a crafter but that grind makes my brain hurt.

OMG! THIS GAME! I forgot all about this...I was a insane pilot, just spent all day fighting nasty rebels. What's funny is I was a menace in space able to out gun almost everyone I meet and this made me rich but on ground I was really low level and like one hit by anything.
It was fascinating how this game worked with all those professions that sometimes never tied to “leveling” your character. You’ll never see something like this ever again sadly
Just started playing on Restoration 3 server. They have JTL available. Just unlocked Master Entertainer, purely funded with credits from killing space pirates.
When I played this Jedi was like this mega hard to obtain prestige class that you had to jump through a bunch of hoops to play. I vaguely remember people not being pleased when they changed that

I got this game for my birthday as a kid but my Dad wouldn't let me run it on our computer... he was always real weird about playing games on it. I spent so much time just reading the box art but after all these years I had completely forgotten about it but now I'm so sad I missed out on this, I would've had so much fun with it!

I was one of the original beta testers for this game and played it daily until the Combat Upgrade. I then played it less often and quit entirely when the New Game Experience happened. I was part of the ITEC on the Tarquinas server; such a great group of players.
I occasionally play on SWGEMU but it's not the same as the golden age of SWG.

Loved this game. My fondest memories of the game are starting my own town on Tattoine near a Kraft Dragon spawn point, using the nudity mod for my Twi'lek dancer (the mod only affected what you saw, not what other players saw) and having players ask me "Why are you in your underwear?", and of course my Imperial officer character with his own TIE Fighter and "pet" Stormtrooper.
