  • Join me in Lerderderg as i look for pieces in the gold mining puzzle from the 1800's
I found the foundation of the flume and walked along it.
Was i the first person to walk along that in 160 years. Is this part of the unknown flume and water race network Sth of Obrien's road in Lerderderg.
Almost 10ft high in parts it's really inspiring and satisfying to be where the old timers worked so hard over 150 years ago just to survive.

A flume is a human-made channel for water, in the form of an open declined gravity chute whose walls are raised above the surrounding terrain, in contrast to a trench or ditch. Flumes are not to be confused with aqueducts, which are built to transport water; flumes use flowing water to transport materials.

Yes, the way that the land is around there, the flume would have been built on that as a foundation

Actually, at least in Central Victoria, flumes (sometimes called flumings) certainly transported water for domestic, mining and agricultural purposes. Usually they carried water across depressions and gullies as part of much longer channel systems but flumes also carried water along embankments when the ground couldn't be excavated to create an open channel. Along some channels, metal piping on wooden trestle bridges carried the water, but along the Coliban Main Channel, between Malmsbury and Bendigo, of the 16 flumes constructed, all were wooden troughs perched on timber supports placed on granite piers. There's plenty of historic photos of them on the Victorian State Library website.

      Thanks for stopping by.
There was 150 miles of water race along the river and all over the area. However there aren't a lot of places where channels are dug in to form the race.
Only places there are channels in the area is where they diverted water from the flume or troughs and went down in another direction.
Flume, aqueduct, trough. There is a bit of crossover with each one.
They built up from the river and 90 percent of what Ive found is flat which points to a flume, aqueduct, or trough running on it and i suspect they diverted the whole river in some points other than the tunnel to work the bedrock.
I appreciate you checking it out.👍

I'm using a GoPro hero 7 black in 4k recording. It's an older model but does a good job. The editing software makes it look really good, I think that's the secret really.
Thanks for the kind words and watching.
I still have a few places in there to have a look at but I'm wandering around elsewhere for a couple of videos.
I'm currently sitting in Walhalla and will be doing one of the trails around here in the next couple of days. Big storms hit here too, trees down everywhere , the exploration might be a bit of a challenge, time will tell

Found a ww1 era compass mid river near there

      No way, that's amazing.
I hoping to find something cool like that. I thought maybe where the flume may have crossed the river might have been a decent spot, but it was clean.

@@PlasticAssasin8 without saying too much it’s he said some decent slugs still come out of that area where the Chinese worked :) such a cool place to wander. Seen a decent herd of wild goats up an unnamed gully that flows into the lerdy was cool to see they were all different colours and very skiddish so when we are doing our usual tramp around trying to. Work out the old workings they no doubt bail usually when we are within a few hundred metres without us knowing

I wouldn't be surprised about that. I've often thought that there is as much there now as there was.
I've seen many goats out there, some were fighting on Ah Kow, some were on a walk i did out from Bluegum, when they saw me they were off and some on an off track i did a few videos ago, but didn't get them on camera.
There is actually a farm that has a paddock of them up near Loh's lane, maybe they are escapee's that have turned feral.

I wonder if prospectors can still search for gold here?
