  • Pulling out the dash, the steering wheel, the glove box, and the kick panels all to reach the carpet!
    With the racing season coming up quickly, I need to makes some quick work of the carpet, but I don't want to cut it out... I thought pulling the dashboard would be all I needed to do, but I'm starting to think I was wrong...
    I have done a lot to get the car to this point,

    Thanks for doing this video. Trying to follow ISTA or whatever they call it now, is a pain - especially with all the clips that you've never encountered before. You're not going to have many viewers. This is because who takes their dash out except racers? Anyone who wants a carbon fiber one needs to call GT Technic. That's where I got mine.

      Glad it could help! Viewers would be nice, but one of the main goals with these videos is to show as much as possible to help other people do the same work. I have fallowed many tutorials in the past that skip things or don't mention things, and it just sucks. Just wanna make videos about my journey in racing and help others if I can!

    Did you perhaps figure out what that “sensor” was at the end? I am planning on doing it on mine, at least replace it with fully black one. But not sure if its an important part or not🙈🤭

    Hi, from where did you unplug the wires which are coming out dashboard, btw very good video

    • @WannabeRacer

      @@Vr-zs8rg which wires? I removed everything from it before taking it out, radio, AC controls, gauges, ECT... So there were no wires left connected once I removed it. If you have wires still, check to make sure everything is taken out first. There is a cable connected to the center air vent for the hot cold if that is still in. It's an easy one to miss. There is also a sensor on the top of the dashboard where the defroster is, so pull that out too, I missed that one initially.

      @ i meant the one coming out dashboard (2 pin) some kind of sensor and it's plugged somewhere in AC harness I think. I looked closely the end of video and find where it's going, thanks again👍🏽

    Remove the engine for weight reduction. It’s just a big hunk-a-metal that only weights you down🧐

      Cant see any reason that wouldn't work!

    Hi There, Im planning on removing the OEM Harmon Kardon wiring harness from the mix of things on my e46. i have most pieces gutted however now i need to remove the dashboard and front carpet to get to the wiring Harness back there.. I liked that you were able to remove the front carpet without cutting it completely. Have you reinstalled it back in yet? Is it a pain to reinstall the carpet by slipping the carpet back under heater core?? i wouldn't mind knocking this job out however i just DO NOT want to struggle with the carpet removal & reinstallation.. if you could please share some more tips here in the comments it would be much appreciated. Thank you & sweet m3. Cheers!

      Mine has been converted fully to a race only car. The carpet was being removed permanently and has not been re installed. I have since removed the AC system and in doing so saw how easy it would be to loosen the HVAC assembly. You cant remove it without draining the AC, but you may be able to loosen the bolts keeping maybe just the top 2 on with a little bit of threading and then move it just enough to help move the carpet in and out more easily. I do plan to delete the whole assembly, but have not done it yet, so I cant speak too much to it, however be careful if you do loosen it as the AC and Cooling lines go into it. Good luck on it!

    Do you have to remove the fuse box first before removing the dashboard?

    • @WannabeRacer
      @WannabeRacer  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If I'm remembering correctly, you don't have to touch the fuse box at all to remove the dash. The fuse box is connected to the metal cross rail underneath and removing that requires taking the fuse box off the rail, however I've never how to fully disconnect the fuse box for any of the work I've done.

    hi! how long did it take?

    • @WannabeRacer
      @WannabeRacer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say that depending on your skill level, it would take 45 minutes to an hour and a half considering you need to take out the center console, something I did prior to this video.
