    I've lived in both places. They're both great cities, but I hate dealing with traffic, and people...soooo many people. So I've moved back to Launceston.

      @@tassieking5716 Ha! I forgot about this until you commented. So, I ended up not being able to get a full time job and had to move back to the mainland. Was not thrilled. However since then, I've actually moved to the United States. I'm now living in Vermont with my wife. It's like Tassie in a lot of ways. Small population, gets picked on by the bigger states, intense natural beauty, heavy emphasis on preservation of the wilderness...Tassie does apples, Vermont does maple syrup 😆
      I brought my wife to Tasmania a couple of years ago and she fell in love with the place. So we do plan to move back there at some point. Probably to retire. Life's a funny thing 😅

      Are there many single ladies down there? I am from Sydney's Northern Beaches and hate people here. They are too... Self absorbed.. Been to Tassie two times and the only thing holding me back from living there and buying a place is lack of a job. Be nice if Aus Post helps me after my many years service.

    I’ve lived in Launceston my entire life and when I went to visit Melbourne recently, I needed to plug my nose waking down the street. Yes, people smoke in Launceston, but the sheer amount in Melbourne was overwhelming for me

    i lived in Melbourne for 18 years, currently i live in Launceston, i would never live in Melbourne again. i came to Launceston to raise my daughter. I thought Launie was a better and safer option than Melbourne, when she`s independent , she can decide where its best for her future

    Lived most of my life in Launceston. Moved to Melbourne 13 years ago. I miss the Gorge and friends I left behind but would probably never move back. Now that Birchalls and Fitzie's City Cafe have gone what is there?

      So in October 2020 do you stand by your comment, or would you like to go back to Launceston now?

    • @markwalsh1799
      @markwalsh1799 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@karlso7314 My home is Melbourne. I have family here and it is where we make a living. I also have friends I have made here. Melbourne has its negatives but these are outnumbered by the positives. I still think of Launceston and during the current lock down we have had here I have often dreamed of taking a walk through the Gorge. But time moves on. When I moved to Melbourne both of my children lived here. One now lives in Berlin. Having spent time there I'd say that I would be more likely to move to Berlin back to Launceston. But you never know what the future holds. So to answer your question - although being able to consume a Sunrise snot block whenever I want is a strong draw, moving back to Launceston is not something I would consider.

    • @karlso7314

      @@karlso7314 I hope to visit some time in the new year. I still have a strong affection for my old home town. I still follow the local footy. I just hope that when Tassie re-opens its borders people are not complacent. From what I understand some already are. As we've seen in Melbourne, Covid-19 can quickly spread. Tassie has approx 20% of its population over 65 + a lot of people who have health problems, all easy targets. So please Tasmanians, observe the protocols and stay safe.

    The primary difference is that Melbourne has more of an antisocial environment than Launceston .
    Antisocial meaning drug culture, crime and corruption, however this could be due to the vast differences in population size and hence density.

    No-one actually lives in the City of Melbourne so there is no point comparing the two places. I doubt anyone who lives in the suburbs cares about the amenities in the city or even visits the city apart from work or study. Better to compare Launceston to Bendigo rather than to a place with 50x the population.

    • @pavementpounder7502
      @pavementpounder7502 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The City of Melbourne local government has over 100,000, and over 30,000 live in the CBD alone. And that's not including the tons of students and visitors. It's not just a place people go to work and shop etc.

    • @markscott9930
      @markscott9930 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pavementpounder7502 30K is about the population of Launceston too right? Its statistically insignificant compared to the 5 million who live outside the CBD. 0.6% v 99.4%.

    • @pavementpounder7502
      @pavementpounder7502 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markscott9930 it's far from 'nothing', and is far denser than the metro averages. Have you not noticed all the apartments in the city? the cbd is tiny in area compared to the metro. Hardly anyone lives in say London's square mile or Tokyo's Chiyoda ward either. And plenty of people come into the city for shopping, dining, entertainment, festival, just socialising. Melbournes cbd is getting increasingly vibrant and busy, with both locals and visitors, on weekdays and weekends. So yes, many of us greatly appreciate all it has to offer.

    Only one problem that never seems to go away, it seems everybody here owns a dog, dogs barking left right and centre, for hours on end, owners leave their dogs in their gardens when they`re away at work, weekends seems to be when its bad, you`ll be calling the council every month complaining about noisy neighbour`s dogs. another issue is work, if you don`t know anybody here, you`ll never find work, its very much a case of : (who you know, not what you know,) but luckily i work online, otherwise i could never live in Launceston, now the good news: no traffic here which is a paradise, roads are generally well designed, its safe to go out of a night time, no African gangs (yet) , fresh air, no summer heatwaves, Launceston gets half the annual rainfall that Melbourne gets, everything is within walking distance, winter time is just bearable May - October, night times can drop to below -4 c
