    Nice repair Bob! Landscapers here in my area love those machines. You saved one for the price of a Chinese carb and alittle time. ✌Roger

      Those older echos are the best. Take Care.

    Hated to see you put all that work into the carb and then it still didn't work. I have had pretty good luck with those aftermarket carbs. I learned this from mowermedic1 i like the Hipa replacement carbs but they don't always make the one you are looking for. They seem to run really good after the carb swap. Hope the family is doing well. Have a great weekend!

    I have the same trimmer so this is great information to have, one thing people might want to be aware of is the fuel line replacement kit should be purchased oem I made the mistake of buying one from eBay and the grommet is the wrong size it's a larger size than mine and from what I have been told the quality of the line is very poor. Thanks for sharing

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I had the same issue so I switch the grommet because I happened to have one in the toolbox.

    Grouse stuff mate that Echo Hedge trimmer is a gem now days plus a good design too unlike the improved design now days which is often not always as good etc.

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Sir, I like the older style simpler carb.

      @Patrick4959 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@doublewide6 for sure the new and improved ones are much worse to use as original ones are better qaulity plus are easy to work with and last longer etc.

    Sometimes it's always better to replace the carb on those 2 strokes they are finicky like you said

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with you, but sometimes I like to fiddle with the equipment instead of waiting 2-3 days for the carb.

      @@doublewide6 i can understand that . i am guilty of doing the same myself.

    Doublewide6 you should have used your mityvac,to check the carb. I bought one right after you had a video on how to use it. I still use it.

    • @doublewide6

      Sometimes it gets time consuming also with filming but it would have helped.

  • @sixtyfiveford
    @sixtyfiveford 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It's getting to the point that I just give them a quick 5minute carb rebuild and if it fails buy an aftermarket. It comes down to the check valve diaphragms being dried out. Not worth the price nor hassle to swap those most of the time.

    • @tysondomer
      @tysondomer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Huh...never thought of the tiny check valve diaphragm getting stiff like the metering diaphragm or stretched out like the pump diaphragm...but that makes sense. Hate to replace the carb without knowing "why"...but can't beat the price on the aftermarket carbs & kits. Makes you wonder why the Zama/STIHL carbs are so pricey.

      Got to agree with you Moe. I like the the garage door lights. A very creative original idea. Nice job.

      From what I hear the ultrasonic cleaners with high heat are touch on the check valve as well.

    Thanks for putting up the links. Most of the pro repair guys just replace because of labor costs. I have an echo weed whacker that will get your replacement advice

    Not a project fail at all. I always clean the carburetor first, and replace metering diaphragm if needed. Then you order a cheap Chinese carb on Amazon and usually runs like a top. Most times I can get OEM carburetor to run well after cleaning. Project success, plan B.

    Yeah the aftermarket carb is the ticket. Also, you may have blown the check valve out of the main jet by blowing through the carb with shop air. Ask me how I know...
