Roy Jones works out in preparation for Jeff "Lef Hook" Lacy on Saturday, August 15 in Biloxi, MS live on Pay-Per-View. Jones' training camp for this event is California, PA just outiside of Pittsburgh
ive watched this video so many times because i box and to be in an enviroment like this one on this video you know they have fun and have a great work out but my gym is full of kids and by kids i mean like 16 year olds im 17 myself but the kids are to me weird they just dont seem like they want to be training but for me i love boxing i love fighting i just really want to be in an enviroment like this when im older its just so cool
my dad is a chiropractor and one of his patients owns a boxing gym where Roy Jones Jr. trains sometimes so I got to see him train and met him he is the nicest guy ever one of the best days of my life
And those 2 things go away as you age which is why someone not gifted with tbose but more fundamentally sound lile bernard hopkins lasted on the highest level longer. Hello from 2020
my dad is a chiropractor and one of his patients owns a boxing gym where Roy Jones Jr. trains sometimes so I got to see him train and met him he is the nicest guy ever one of the best days of my life in fact it was the same gym in this video in little california
you keep doing it for the love of the sprt and if you listen to roy he is not saying anything about people he is not fighting he knows what he is going to do and thats what he is talking about. roy brought alot to the sport of boxing and deserves to fight and do what he wants at this stage... being a boxing fan is not about watching all the major fighters and major fights but supporting your favorite fighters no matter what they do...
RJ is the fastest man in boxing right now and yes, at 40 that is amazing. I had a blast seeing he and Sr. do their thing again. Not many people understand that dynamic. This is 90% mental and that was vintage Roy Saturday night. Hook City was uppercut city too. If this stays the same, I don't think the Green fight will come off. Sr. saw the same thing I did. Green will see aqn even better RJj than Lacy did. Quit booing Lacy guys. He had balls to get in there with Jones. You get in the ring?
also let me add i have seen roy tear up and dominate the speed bag but no heavy bag footage. that would be a real treat to see him do that when he was in his prime.
It's amazing reading some peoples responses to videos like this. The gym is where you learn, not fight. Big Roy is one of the best trainers in boxing and I look forward to seeing him. I'd like to see Jr retire personally, but that's his choice. The Lacy card is setting up a fight with Green. Lacy doesn't do well with boxers and gets hit too easy, but he's dangerous if you square up and don't use angles. Roy knows this and he is still faster/better than anyone at his weight. It's ALL mental now.
On May 22 1993 a 27 year old Bernard Hopkins stepped in the ring and was dominated by a a man with a busted hand who had an off night. 17 years later at the age of 44 he out boxed the #1 ranked light heavyweight in the world. Roy's critics will say, "he never fought anyone". Bernard Hopkins is someone and that someone has fought some of the best competition in the history of the sport and guess who he said was by far the best fighter he ever fought? That's right, Roy Jones jr. I love Roy's fans.
thank god he was slaping on roys eye or b. hop to the body .. definitly has more than a slapp to be champ for 10 years break roy jones eye never done before. by the way am not a huge calzaghe fan but i respect him,. just have a good day dude
thanks for responding to me. it makes me wonder if roy really ever used the heavy bag during his career while training. it would be very unusual for a boxer if he didnt.
The man was taught well by his father. Check out the pivots. RJj has been boxing for over 25 years and has a lot of miles on those legs. It's not as easy being quick on the feet for 12 rounds, but that's where angles come in at. I'm very familiar with this style and if he boxes as he was brought up to do I can be back at the resort by 11 and get a good seat at a blackjack table, get some sleep, and get back home.
I did find a 3 second clip of Roy doing a 3 punch combo on bag. They showed it on HBO before one of his fights.. Thats the only time. He even has 2 documentaries on TH-cam and he didn't touch the heavy bag in either one of them. The doc of him training for Ruiz and Tarver 2.
good question. i am wondering that myself. i have yet to see a video or footage of him hitting one. i have seen footage of b hop hitting one like an expert. i would also love to see roy's technique on the heavy bag. i was really into footwork and dancing and shadow boxing in his prime it seems.
i agree. the heavy bag does not make you any faster alot of speed is just God given. roy had extraordinary God given reflexes. but it is still very unusual for a boxer if he very seldom used the heavy bag which i still want to know if he did during his prime. i also saw rj boxing underwater in a pool. i have a dvd about him in his preparation for tarver 2 shadow boxing underwater. do u by any chance know the name of song and artist roy plays around 44 sec into this youtube video??? let me know.
This is part of his workout, not all of his workout. It's for mental focus, no physical endurance. Like a wing chun practioner doing sticking hands, or forms. It's just a focus and rhythm workout. He's always done this, that's why his timing is rediculously good.
I could see him not using the bag. Sparring really is the key. It would explain his speed, for example I've seen videos of him doing "Polish Boxing" under water. That alone would explain alot of his speed. That with double end bag, sparring, etc.... I'm sure it could be done.
Like I said before, it's mostly mental right now. That's Big Roy calling footwork and combos. What's funny? It's repetition. I do it all the time in the gym. That's basic stuff. That's partly what makes him such a great trainer. Too many get away from it. Keep the fundamentals and let the natural stuff be natural. Jr. was sharp Saturday. With pops in the corner and them having fun Lacy never had a chance. That was near vintage RJ. Glad I decided to go cuz I got to see something special!
The dude in the black shirt is Roy friend Derrick (Smoke) Gainer. Shoot how many ppl think that they could still be competitive at age 40. Man if Foreman can win the HW8 title at 45 then let Roy do his thing. He's better than what ppl think shit I wouldn't step in the ring with him and I'm 22. (Unless I'm sparring) I hope Roy wins get another title and retire. Fight Johnson, Adamek then Hopkins.
I need help with two songs in this session. Song 1 from start to 0:23 and the one between 0:43 -1:26. I'd be a happy man if someone knows these song. thanks
@longfinnedeeler You wouldn't understand my line of thinking unless you possessed a tremendous amount of fast twitch muscles such as Roy and myself. I was a sprinter as you get older you need to do certain things to preserve the power in your legs. Ricky Hatton was famous for using plyometrics and front squats. That's why he was so explosive jumping in and out, EXACTLY WHAT ROY USED TO DO AND WHAT HE NEEDS NOW.
Not adamek I meant Danny Green Roy wants a cruiser W8 belt. But Johnson and Hopkins are also in their 40's so roy would have a chance. He's still faster than them and can go 12 rounds if he needs to. If he just stays off the ropes like he did in his last fight he could pull it off.
yeh, I preferred hitting the heavy bag, because it was easier. I can try something stupid on the heavy bag, catch my balance and don't get punished for it.. :) Sparring is the best form of training but also the hardest. I've always wanted that song and could never find it. Post if you do. It might be a mix.
man, what and who is that track that jones is playing while shadow boxing???? i want that while i am working out. anyone knows the name and artist of that track let me know asap. for real. it has a jazz like influence to it. keyboards and stuff. holla at your boy boxingwarriorspirit. i will order that track if possible.
@FinesseCool Your mostly wrong. In boxing when someone is fast, they are talking about hand speed not his fleet of foot!! He was also quick which was his explosiveness! His agility, mobility and foot speed were also above average which made him elusive. His road work (running and sprints) is for endurance. Plus skills, drills and physical training DO increase reflexes which are NOT solely based on synapses. But you are correct about one thing, as you age you do lose it......
thats wot you call training, you can work out just as good having fun,,im a boxer b4 anyone starts chatting shit,, you can do 10-2min rounds on the reaction ball on your own working real hard, or you can do it blasting the music with 2 off your friends on the other side, and even tho it dont look as hard cuz your having fun with it but it is and better for you because you have them as friendly competition..
I like how they shadow box with the beat
Roy in his prime was a beast!
ive watched this video so many times because i box and to be in an enviroment like this one on this video you know they have fun and have a great work out but my gym is full of kids and by kids i mean like 16 year olds im 17 myself but the kids are to me weird they just dont seem like they want to be training but for me i love boxing i love fighting i just really want to be in an enviroment like this when im older its just so cool
I had to come see roy jones run after the new training video.
my dad is a chiropractor and one of his patients owns a boxing gym where Roy Jones Jr. trains sometimes so I got to see him train and met him he is the nicest guy ever one of the best days of my life
I love watching the fast and smooth hand movement of boxers like Jones, i also love watching big weights been pressed slowly with reps.
No matter how much training one has, that looseness/explosiveness of his is not easy to imitate.
And those 2 things go away as you age which is why someone not gifted with tbose but more fundamentally sound lile bernard hopkins lasted on the highest level longer. Hello from 2020
And STILL...One of my favorites
Whos here after seeing roy jones running for the tysom fight

@@nando31678 exactly i had to do some research bruh. Somebody in the comments said that man runs like a moose that got shot i was done😂🤦🏿♂️

One of the baddest around...i study all of his fights. I train jus like he does
jones is my hero! haters can never take away his accomplishments...
my dad is a chiropractor and one of his patients owns a boxing gym where Roy Jones Jr. trains sometimes so I got to see him train and met him he is the nicest guy ever one of the best days of my life in fact it was the same gym in this video in little california
What an athlete!

Roy's left bicep is oddly huge!!!
also let me add i have seen roy tear up and dominate the speed bag but no heavy bag footage. that would be a real treat to see him do that when he was in his prime.
yes thats true , and need variety to keep mind and body sharp
He's got rhythm
Good to see him enjoying himself, he loves what he does and I wish all the haters would back off
The Best
he does ur right!
