I tried the D8000 Pro about 10 days ago while demoing some other equipment. I was impressed with its sonic signature. It’s on my short list along with the Caldera. It’ll be either one or the other.

I've been considering... "Going 0/1 in real life" a year ago. One day I came across an audio store that allowed demoing their gear. I tried a few headphones and IEMs I was interested in, and then the clerk asked me if I want to try the D8000 Pro. I had never heard of that headphone before and knew nothing about it, but why not, I tried it. I played "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" by Apocalyptica and immediately teared up. The sound was so big, so grand, I could pinpoint each instrument in space around me, the bass went through my entire body, the strings were as detailed as if I were there in real life. I cried like a baby for the first time in years. But it made me want to live again. If there are experienced this beautiful to be had, then life was worth living. I am not exaggerating at all when I say that this headphone saved my life.
I have heard this and it is by far the best I have ever heard... I have heard the LCD5s, Utopia, Elite, Empereyen and heard the same songs in all and God save me from forking my hard earned money on D8000 pro. With Fiio K9 Pro as the DAC/Amp, it probably should be endgame for 99% of the audiophiles.
That's an incredible coincidence that you've said that and I agree the D8000 would have been perfect on Ripley because of the look (silver design) of them. The reason I did say it was an incredible coincidence is that I was searching for info about the Warwick electrostatic system and I clicked DMS by chance but guess what minutes before this comment I just got through watching Aliens on a DVD. You’re the second knowledgeable reviewer I’ve come across who has said these are excellent for classical music but strangely Final markets the D8000 as particularly suited for classical music and d8000 pro as “more appropriate for rock, pop and other music with more limited dynamic range”, their words not mine. I’d love to hear someone, you, address this issue more fully!
Final audio is a super interesting company, i've never touched their high end, but they're one of my favorite "cheap" IEM brands with the E3000c being a personal favorite, they have a special dark, V shape tuning that is very selective to who likes it. Their open back style definitely is reflected in the design here, the "open back" iems they have are very similar in look, even a similar pattern in the metal. I should be able to afford these used in about 6 years :)
After the build quality issues I experienced with their IEMs a couple/few years ago I don't think I'd ever trust Final with this much money, but that's a personal objection. The product looks fabulous.
I enjoy them slightly more than the Susvara. Sound more accurate for me. Not necessarily more natural, as it isn't, but the Final feels more right for orchestral music
I heard them over 2 years ago on hifi show in Helsinki and despite listening to top models from Focal, Hifiman and Stax 8000 was just the one to remember. It has so easy noticeable out of head sounding character combined with realistic size and timbre of acoustic, real instruments. Absolute champion.
I just managed to demo them on the high end convention. They sound fabulous! I had them back to back with the Elite, LCD5, susvara and Utopia. The d8000 pro are my favourite. Second place are the electrostats from audeze. But by god the d8000 play so well with tubes! A planar that works with tubes!!
Most rewarding high end headphone I’ve owned. Demanding of source and amp but when you get it right it’s probably my best ever sounding headfi system. Has a sound stage which can feel intimate, wide and or deep depending on each track! Goes best with fairly euphonic tubes in my experience as it leans slightly dry.
Pathos inpol ear. I got a 2nd hand wA2 which I actually found for a budget option did a great job for the price. Paired with Bricasti M3 and an Innuos zennith and vermouth audio cables
When DMS says it sounds good I have no doubt. Can’t say I like the looks of it though. It sort of looks like something is missing from the cups like car wheels without the hubcaps. That is if you like hubcaps.
So today I went to my local high end audio store in Manhattan to check out the Meze Elites and see if they were different enough to add to my Empyrean II's I got recently. The guy there essentially called me an idiot (in a nice way lol) for wanting to do that and instead pointed me to these D8000's. I had vaguely heard of these a year or so ago but never paid them much mind. Well I put them on and after listening to them bought them on the spot. They are absolutely incredible. Different than my Empy II's (may be overall "better", the Empy's are a more 'fun' headphone tho) but these things just blew me away. They sound even better on my WA7 which I didn't think was possible. Anyway, if you're watching this to try and decide if you should pull the trigger on them, and have made your way into the comments and are brazen/brave enough to take the option of a random dude on the internet's opinion, BUY THEM! You will love that you did!!
I've been enjoying the D8000 Pro and RME ADI-2 FS for 2 years As for amplification, I've struggled a little bit to find a match for the D8K. I really wish we had a bit of guidance into what amplifier (s) been used for the review. This is a pair that we buy as End Game (most of us), and the entire chain is very important. I've been enjoying this with RME ADI-2 FS and Burson Audio Soloist. Or Feliks Audio Elise (Tubes Tung-Sol 5998) My preferred amplifier (ATM) is the Moondrop THX AAA ONE with the D8000 Pro I'm still waiting for the Ferrum OOR and the HYPSOS to arrive at the moment. My biggest wish will be to hear people opinion on what amp dac works for them. Great reviews. Spot on for the sound description. 👌
@orrman Budget will be settled when i will be convinced thet is worth the money (no more than $3000) At the moment, i will be using the RME ADI-2 and planning to upgrade to something like the Chord Hugo TT 2 or something else. Maybe an R2R DAC. I have to test them on my system first. The usability of RME is priceless for me ATM
interesting since I got my Elise set with great tubes, after I bought my 420 Ohm ADX5000 I love japan headphones, D8000 pro is the only japan made planar I want, no more planars after that because I love my dynamics so much

Testing the Ferrum OOR and HYPSOS and the iFi CAN Pro will arrive in 2 days. Can't wait to compare them. I'm considering for my next headphones something planars from ZMF or Dynamics (maybe Sony)

That upper mid scoop, how does it present distorted guitars, does it make them lose aggressiveness? Are these something to avoid if I'd like my face properly melted?
I used to have the D8000. A fantastic headphone. However, it does not particularly like high volumes.Over time, I've increasingly got the impression, that the bass isn't acting freely and detached. As if you could literally hear the advertised afds system. The bass sounded (at high volume) muffled, restrained, curbed. I didn't used EQ by the way. In terms of frequency response, the D8000 was one of the very few headphones, that I really liked out of the box.
With good comfortable options out there like Dan Clark Aeon's and most of Hifiman's upper-end lineup, there's no excuse for new flagship headphones to be anything other than supremely comfortable.
Personally own a D8000 Pro and appreciate it for certain genres, mainly modern pop 1998-Present. Not to mention the steampunk-ish design, it's a badass headphone.

Kinda random, but, since you're a sound guy, you should try "Generation Zero" on PC. That games sound design is insanely good. Get it on sale on Steam (I got it for $6 a few weeks ago) I was so impressed with the sound design, I actually hooked up my amp/DAC and used my planars on my PC again, just to see how crazy the game can get. I can guarantee you'll be impressed with the sound, use a pair with a wide soundstage.
Thanks for this DMS, my experience varies wildly from yours. I’ve owned this but sold it fairly quickly. It has quite a large/tall headband, too big for medium/smaller than medium heads. My head size is average size/slightly larger than normal & mine fit without extending the the drivers down. Also stock cables are poor, the Silver cable is SO stiff & heavy. But why I sold mine was because of the driver clipping which happens with low frequencies on medium/lower than medium volume levels (mid & sub bass). This is a MASSIVE fail for this headphone, cannot believe it’s a planar driver! And absolutely unacceptable for a headphone of this price. I heard 2 other units too, same defect. A big avoid from me, those interested must audition before buying.
I love my d8000 pro but it has the same issue. I find it depends on what kind of music you listen to because the guy I bought them from had never heard them clip before. But he was listening mostly to jazz and orchestral whereas I favored the bass performance for electronica. When the lower frequencies of a track are particularly busy, that's when I hit the clipping issue at comfortable listening levels. This is completely unacceptable to me for a headphone of this price, and at times I consider selling them but nothing could replace the unique experience they provide
So the pair that I tried out in the store had this happen and I asked the owner about it, he said it's a rare issue and something that he would be willing to rectify if the pair that I bought had that problem. So after I bought them I put on "Why So Serious" from the Dark Knight OST and, for those that don't know, at the 3:27 mark starts the section that's great for testing sub-bass. Glad to say that mine have zero issue with clipping. It is disappointing tho that others are dealing with it on a headphone at this price point. Also, pretty sure FA said the planar inside is specifically designed to not have this issue. Maybe their QA is lacking a bit :(

If I see the Final D8000 Pro this year at the High End in Munich, then I will of course test it, although I don't particularly like the design. But maybe you have an opportunity to compare the D8000 Pro against your Abyss PHI TC, would definitely be interested in your feedback.

I always hate the Harmon tuning and this tuning I love it. I eas a music producer before. And we always look for the natural tone of instruments. And when we record we always use this curve for the instruments to sound real like in a live show. Apart from the 16k. Lol. That's for air and presence

@En Joshi-Godrez the real guitar tone. I am speaking in rock way. Because inwas a producer and I am a guitarrist . Metal one. Dont blame me for that. Lol. The guitars always sound better when the max pina gain goes up is from 2 to 3 k. Ans just a 3 to 4 dB max after that. The guitars sounds to thin . They need to be thick. And for that reason sometimes we track 4 guitars and we place 4 eq in different positions to create that tone. Moat of iem and headphones they setup for a 60 dB volume. When I hear music at 85 dB. Then the upper mids and treble can destroy all. The audio reviewers should rate iem at different levels . But they dont
@@paulosilva8200 actually most compensation graphs are taken around 90db reference. Its just that these reviewers do their analysis at volumes significantly lower than that (around 70db). I agree that harmen doesn't work above 75db, which is why I must lower the bass by around 0.5db, and the entire pinna curve by around 0.5 as well. Might not seem like a lot. But it makes all the difference when at higher volumes were eq of even 0.1db becomes noticeable at those ends of the frequency spectrum.
Yo....! Something I noticed in the video. I know you did it for display effect. But never ever ever put a magnetic structure near watch's. You will mess your watches up!
They are borrowing a lot of the design language from the old AKG's k240. I agree with you that D8000 shine in live and orchestral music. They are also remarkable for heavy metal, imo, the kick drum sounds faaaaast and clear while at the same time guitars sound clear and have ear piercing energy. I love the Finals, but the price is pure 💩💩💩
I thought the same, but while I haven't had a chance to hear the D8000, I did recently get to try the T50RP 50th Anniversary edition (not to be confused with the regular MK3 or various mods) which has the exact same region scooped by about the same amount (and measures somewhat similarly to the D8000 across the board), and to my surprise my ears couldn't even tell the region was missing. Vocals sounded similar to my K702 on which that region is very forward, the only thing I think sounded maybe a bit odd was that I found guitars sounded a little less full/in your face and more "digital" almost - but tracks with guitars in sound fantastic, it's just a different presentation. Of course that's the T50RP 50th Anni, I can't speak for the D8000 itself but thought I'd chime in due to their similar tuning.
What would be considered a, LONG ENOUGH, very acceptable l i f e s p a n of service in a $4,500.00 outlay of this type? (I mean, I would have to demand durability by several magnitudes for.a measure of total satisfaction.)

I love my d8000 pro but they should come with a bit of "buyer beware". Depending on what kind of music you listen to, the drivers can clip in the bass region at comfortable listening levels. I listen to a wide variety of music from jazz to rock to electronica and I only hit the clipping when the lower frequencies of a track are particularly busy, mostly when there's really prominent bass synthesizers, I hear rattlings at comfortable to loud listening levels. Even though it only appears in some tracks, it leads to constant unease where anytime I hear a rattling noise, I start to wonder whether it was in the track, in my room, or the driver. This is really unacceptable for a headphone of this price, but nothing else I've heard can deliver the same out-of-head, realistic presentation I get from these. Another problem I have with this product is the customer support. I have been reaching out for several months now to both the English and Japanese support emails for final and have yet to receive a single response on whether I can get this repaired. I have politely offered to pay for shipping and repairs and follow up on a monthly basis and have yet to receive any reply. I'm not sure if headphones.com handles warranty and replacement as a distributor of this headphone, but if they do that would be the place to buy it, or get it used from someone where you can demo and test for the clipping yourself.

final audio is certainly not a "cheap" iem brand. they are costly.

I recently heard the Sonorous lll, at 1/10th the price... that headphone is damn good.
I have the Sonorous II and I love it so much. Although the D8000 is on a whole new level... I hope I can afford them in the future.

Interesting, I picked up a pair at the same time I grabbed some ZMF Atriums. I strongly prefer the Finals, and have never had them clip.
I love my d8000 pro but it has the same issue. I find it depends on what kind of music you listen to because the guy I bought them from had never heard them clip before. But he was listening mostly to jazz and orchestral whereas I favored the bass performance for electronica. When the lower frequencies of a track are particularly busy, that's when I hit the clipping issue at comfortable listening levels. This is completely unacceptable to me for a headphone of this price, and at times I consider selling them but nothing could replace the unique experience they provide
I have No such issue even in high Volume and sub bass slightly elevated.
So the pair that I tried out in the store had this happen and I asked the owner about it, he said it's a rare issue and something that he would be willing to rectify if the pair that I bought had that problem. So after I bought them I put on "Why So Serious" from the Dark Knight OST and, for those that don't know, at the 3:27 mark starts the section that's great for testing sub-bass. Glad to say that mine have zero issue with clipping. It is disappointing tho that others are dealing with it on a headphone at this price point. Also, pretty sure FA said the planar inside is specifically designed to not have this issue. Maybe their QA is lacking a bit :(

If I see the Final D8000 Pro this year at the High End in Munich, then I will of course test it, although I don't particularly like the design. But maybe you have an opportunity to compare the D8000 Pro against your Abyss PHI TC, would definitely be interested in your feedback.

I always hate the Harmon tuning and this tuning I love it. I eas a music producer before. And we always look for the natural tone of instruments. And when we record we always use this curve for the instruments to sound real like in a live show. Apart from the 16k. Lol. That's for air and presence

The guitars always sound better when the max pina gain goes up is from 2 to 3 k. Ans just a 3 to 4 dB max after that. The guitars sounds to thin . They need to be thick. And for that reason sometimes we track 4 guitars and we place 4 eq in different positions to create that tone. Moat of iem and headphones they setup for a 60 dB volume. When I hear music at 85 dB. Then the upper mids and treble can destroy all. The audio reviewers should rate iem at different levels . But they dont
@@paulosilva8200 actually most compensation graphs are taken around 90db reference. Its just that these reviewers do their analysis at volumes significantly lower than that (around 70db). I agree that harmen doesn't work above 75db, which is why I must lower the bass by around 0.5db, and the entire pinna curve by around 0.5 as well. Might not seem like a lot. But it makes all the difference when at higher volumes were eq of even 0.1db becomes noticeable at those ends of the frequency spectrum.

I agree with you that D8000 shine in live and orchestral music. They are also remarkable for heavy metal, imo, the kick drum sounds faaaaast and clear while at the same time guitars sound clear and have ear piercing energy.
I love the Finals, but the price is pure 💩💩💩

I thought the same, but while I haven't had a chance to hear the D8000, I did recently get to try the T50RP 50th Anniversary edition (not to be confused with the regular MK3 or various mods) which has the exact same region scooped by about the same amount (and measures somewhat similarly to the D8000 across the board), and to my surprise my ears couldn't even tell the region was missing. Vocals sounded similar to my K702 on which that region is very forward, the only thing I think sounded maybe a bit odd was that I found guitars sounded a little less full/in your face and more "digital" almost - but tracks with guitars in sound fantastic, it's just a different presentation.
Of course that's the T50RP 50th Anni, I can't speak for the D8000 itself but thought I'd chime in due to their similar tuning.

I love my d8000 pro but they should come with a bit of "buyer beware". Depending on what kind of music you listen to, the drivers can clip in the bass region at comfortable listening levels. I listen to a wide variety of music from jazz to rock to electronica and I only hit the clipping when the lower frequencies of a track are particularly busy, mostly when there's really prominent bass synthesizers, I hear rattlings at comfortable to loud listening levels. Even though it only appears in some tracks, it leads to constant unease where anytime I hear a rattling noise, I start to wonder whether it was in the track, in my room, or the driver. This is really unacceptable for a headphone of this price, but nothing else I've heard can deliver the same out-of-head, realistic presentation I get from these.
Another problem I have with this product is the customer support. I have been reaching out for several months now to both the English and Japanese support emails for final and have yet to receive a single response on whether I can get this repaired. I have politely offered to pay for shipping and repairs and follow up on a monthly basis and have yet to receive any reply. I'm not sure if headphones.com handles warranty and replacement as a distributor of this headphone, but if they do that would be the place to buy it, or get it used from someone where you can demo and test for the clipping yourself.
Listen D8000 Pro and Pro LE, imo LE have more balanced tuning, less treble and more bass than Pro, LE have great pads too.
