  • I’m back with a new tutorial! Find out how to smoothen your ohashori, which is one of the most important points of a kimono. This method partly taken from Bisōryū Kimono Academy (www.bisouryu.co.jp/). Check out their video to tie a obi on the front.

    Thank you, Billy, once again you are the best kimono sensei. I watch your videos over and over to perfect my technique. Maybe I will post a picture when I am feeling a little more confident.

    this video is so imformative. there is just one request or maybe sugestion. if you ever were to reshoot or readress this could you use perhaps a sheer summer Kimono . your hands would likely contrast best over the dark juban uou made, so that we can see your hands as you actualy manipulate the folds.

      Women kimono and yukata are so hard to wear compared to men. I’ll just wear men yukata even though I’m a woman. Maybe with woman obi so my chest doesn’t fall out

      (sorry for my belated reply!! TH-cam didn't show me your comment...) This one is a original design by my favorite kimono store "Otsuka Gofuku-ten", but I'm afraid that you can't purchase it from abroad... Hopefully you can make a similar one or once come to Japan to buy it!

    I have so much trouble with ohashori, somehow it always ends up tilted? It's not a straight line, it goes up on one end... I usually just tuck everything up under the obi. I'll have to try this method, see if it helps.

      iloveragdollcats hi! Yes, but I call it “Korin belt”. This one is from Bisōryū. I can really recommend that. And yeah, I’m already planning on a tutorial about obi age 😉

    Really nice useful video! Does the eri saki have to match the length of the ohashouri? What is the right length of the ohashouri? By the way.. I want one of those elastic bands (maybe I can make it at home?)

    • @BillyMatsunaga
      @BillyMatsunaga  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! 5-6cm is regarded as the best length for a ohashori. But I think that 4-8 cm should be fine. It depends on what you like. And depending on the obiita sometimes the obi keeps on slipping down. So a longer ohashori sometimes looks better than a "perfect length ohashori". :)

  • @Smooottie
    @Smooottie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Do you have any advice for creating a nice ohashori on a curvy body type? I have a quite dramatic hourglass shape and there's a big difference between my hips and waist, and I think it would be impossible to use enough pattern to make my torso straight (if I did I probably wouldn't be very comfortable) so my ohashori always looks a bit like a peplum that sticks out. Is that something that can be fixed?

    • @BillyMatsunaga
      @BillyMatsunaga  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Smooottie hi! Sorry for my belated reply. I was thinking for a while and double checked with my teacher (because she has decades of experience), but “padding” was the only answer. And I’m not happy with that. Let me do some research to find a way how to deal with an hour glass shaped body without over-padding. I’ll come back to you ❤️❤️

    • @Smooottie
      @Smooottie 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BillyMatsunaga don't worry about the wait, thank you so much for taking the time to think about it and reply!
      My problem with padding is that it ends up looking quite silly if I try to make my upper body completely straight, since I'm probably 3 different sizes on my torso 😅

    • @jaclyngaedigk1887
      @jaclyngaedigk1887 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the same problem as waist is different size than upper body. I also have found an absolutely perfect kimono with loved pattern, but its around 10cm short and because of my shape it’s impossible. Is there any chance to make that short Kimono fit with adding cloth for length? Some ppl recommend to skip the ohashori, but...

    • @yeppeogeu2828
      @yeppeogeu2828 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaclyngaedigk1887 you can probably add similar fabric in the part where the ohashori is folded and hidden, it will be covered with the obi anyway.

      This one is polyester 🙈 so nothing special! But it’s imitating a silk crepe.
