actually he said "u" as in the letter "u" and not "you". if you look at the fold it because the tension is on the 2 top sides so the part that gravity hangs resembles the letter "u" so thats what he's tyring to come across. i think this has cleared things up a little but just rewatch the video and you will see what i mean.

An important detail about plate armour in particular are the proportions. One of the most commonly made mistakes that you see all the time even with professional artists and costume designers is the cuirass (that is to say, the breast and back plate) being treated like some kind of shirt. If you do that, you end up with an immobile and oversized piece, forcing you to make awkward and unrealistic bends in the armour itself if you want to draw your character in movement. The breastplate doesn't reach all the way to the belt line, but rather to the waiste. If you want full plate, the belly and abdomen are covered by faulds, which are essentially a skirt made from articulated plates.
An easy test to see if you have the right proportions is to ask the simple question if your character could comfortably sit down on a chair or even the ground without the edges of the plate biting into him. If the answer is no, your breastplate reaches too far down.

another tip would be that is called a breastplate, not a torso plate

The lames of the pauldrons are actually only directly riveted to each other on the back, while the front and sides are riveted to leather strap on the inside. It lets the plates collapse onto each other almost completely, allowing for a wide range of motion.
