This is so true! For almost a quarter of a century now I, first paid in a very small fee which gave me the right to dredge a beautiful gold mining claim in the heart of the richest district's of California's gold rush in 1849. Then after 4 years of buying in, the owner sold this claim to myself an the 2 other miners I met while working the claim who became my friend's and mining partners. I literally quit jobs at the beginning of the dredging season ( before the illegal ban went into effect) several different years over the 25 years so that I could live in a tent on the claim full time and dredge as a full time job (before the illegal ban, as long as you knew what you were doing, you could definitely find enough gold to pay for your entire season and still make a respectable profit. Living up there full time for almost 5 months, you got to know all the locals. For me, a 5', 3" , 110 pound blonde woman with a full set of real teeth in my mouth, all of the locals definitely wanted to know who I was. There's 3 locals in particular that I was never comfortable being around and I definitely NEVER wanted to get caught alone with! One guy named Joe was by far the scariest, he was a know woman beater, a known hider from the cops guy AND rumored by all the other locals (including the lovely family folks who ran the local country store and the sandwich shop) to be Charles Manson's son. He 100% has those same crazy eyes. I am not even kidding
Pack at least one large caliber sidearm. .357 magnum, .41 magnum, or .44 magnum. Or no less than a 9mm semi auto, but better with a 10mm or .45 auto. A 10mm can duplicate a .41 magnum in performance and good bear medicine. And can be loaded for 2 legged predators. A .45 can deal with wolves, coyotes, and smaller bears not big brown bears. If you're going to camp in your vehicle, packing a 12.gquge shotgun with 00 buck and slugs will deal with anything. A .308 rifle or AK rifle will deter any 2 legged predator. My FN SCAR 17 is 7.62x51 and has a folding stock (paratrooper style) so it can be a folded yet still shootable in folded stock position. That makes it easy to stow in a vehicle.
My dad was a trooper and always warned us about campsites because a lot people, bad people, bounce around in these areas when they don't want to be found. Great idea for a fun video, but it's a good reminder, too!
The forest is a place you don't want to camp alone, too many true tragic stories. If carrying a firearm make sure you are trained and then train train, train some more...good skit though
So glad to see someone SMART, carrying a gun! Thank God for that. I was on the edge of my seat - literally, and I was so glad to see what you had 6:57 You never know. I watch a LOT of videos of people who hike, camp, and/or are van lifers and I have not seen anything like this before. I'm also glad you have the two adorable dogs! You're a smart man. Thumbs up! I'm subscribing.
Hey, thanks so much for watching and subscribing! Although this particular video was just acting and sound effects, and was not real, I do always believe in always staying prepared at all times just in case of a bad situation! I decided to make this video because this was pretty much my worst nightmare, while camping alone!
IMPRESSED with your smart decision to give yourself a better life. We weren't created to live chaotic lives, and it definitely wreaks havoc on our bodies both physically and mentally. Stay safe, my friend.
Just watched this and it’s a good reminder. I’m an older woman with a camper van, always aware of my surroundings. I can’t imagine a woman staying alone without her “ Mr. Smith and Wesson’ . 🌴from Florida.
Yes! and maybe a loudspeaker and flashing lights so you can play all sorts of crazy shit - sirens, dogs barking, warnings, manical laughter mwahhahha I am the one that comes knocking etc
I have never come across a vanlife vid where they have installed exterior cameras. They always say they are looking into it. I bet you would get double the views with a tiltle like ' Guess what I caught on my exterior camera?'
One dog listens really well and the other dog is deaf. Plus at the end of the video I admit that it was all acting and sound effects 😂 thanks for watching and commenting
@@worklessenjoylifemoreGreat warning video. Glad you posted this as a reminder of what it could be like to get visited in the middle of the night. I will not forget to bring my 🔫🧨🗡️🗜️🔪🦠⛏️⛓️🔐❣️🤗♌️
My boyfriend went hiking miles from civilization and roads. No one around but him. And sitting in his camp this homeless looking guy walked by. He was so shocked so he decided to stop the guy talk. And the guy lives out there in the forest and built a small cabin out there boondocking. So moral of story is that no matter where you are someone is out there.
Wow that would definitely freak me out seeing a guy that far out. Yeah You just never know who’s around so I always stay protected with various devices lol 😂 thanks for watching Denise 🤙
Thanks Jen!! There are definitely some scary people out there!! There was only one time I camped alone without protection (pew pew) because I forgot it! I was freaked out all night hoping nothing would happen!! Thanks so much for watching 🤙
@@matthewzablocki5310 Wow. You folks really don't get he was joking do you? We already got someone thinking it was spirits/bigfoot and aliens. Again, it was a prank.
@@americancrimejournal LOL, people need to start watching the endings of videos. Still, hopefully this is a good reminder to people that the ONLY one responsible for YOUR AND YOUR LOVED ONES SAFETY, is YOU! Cops are not required by law to save your life, and they can't teleport.
When you park your camper in the wild, you should always hang up a camera to either film or take pictures of your camper. Then you can see the next day whether it was an animal or a person who was outside. And maybe identify the person too so you can look for him and avoid him if you spot him near you. My dog, which is very big, a Pyrenean Mountain dog on 80 kilo would gone mad if he heard someone outside. And if I would let him out he would kill the intruder....... Take care and stay safe. Always bring a gun like you did. Greetings from Norway.
Many years ago our pastor and his wife had pulled off the road in their RV to sleep and they were attacked by someone shooting at them. They jumped up, got into the drivers seat and took off with the person following and continuing to shoot. They got away but I thought I would never do that with an RV.
Wow that would be scary!! There are some scary people out there for sure!! I often think about what if a similar situation would happen to me, then I wouldn’t be able to jump into the drivers seat to take off eeekkk 😬 thanks so much Inthe Sun for watching and commenting 😊
There was a couple just outside of Santa Rosa on a road that links Santa Rosa to Calistoga, pulled off the road to sleep and someone just randomly shot at them. Didn't get to find out if they did ok, but it was thought to be local kids. Just can NOT be too safe out there anymore. Rest stops are dangerous, side of the road is dangerous. People camping in tents in State Parks, hiking multistate trails. Local or mobile thieves, killers, rapists all watching and waiting for that random chance. Can't imagine NOT being armed camping. and parameter lighting and alarms seems a must these days.
@@collinsfriend1 thanks for sharing that story. I never camp on the side of the road or at rest stops. I never camp at state parks either. Usually I stick to BLM and National Forest land and I make sure I’m as far away from other campers as I can be. I always have weapons for self defense and always have an eye open for anything suspicious. I figure for every one camper getting shot situation there is 2000+ situations of people getting shot and robbed inside their own home 🏡 so it can happen anywhere and anytime. I try to relax and enjoy nature but still realizing there could be dangerous people around. Thanks for watching and commenting 🤙
Thank actual god you had a gun. I commend how calm you were. My heart was literally going into palpitations during this. I defenitely would've threatened them with the gun. You only live once.
I had a similar experience with someone outside my rig while I was sleeping. I jumped out of bed making abrupt moises and heard the person run away. Next morning, off in the distance I see a tent. So I go about my business and that afternoon I mosy off to the middle ground between the two campsites and act like I'm looking for something on the ground. Long story short, dude comes over and he's a meth freak. Putting it together, then I split.
If i wasn't taking care of my wife, the dog and I would totally do this. Glad to see you brought your freedom seed shooter. Your pups are so well behaved not to bark. Mine would be taking the roof off camper.
Thanks Bill for watching, and even though I make it seem exciting at times it doesn’t hold a flame to being with someone you love. It’s all about perspective I guess 😊 It gets lonely sometimes out here all alone. I appreciate you watching and commenting, and hope I didn’t cross a line with my reply. 🤙
First step: Put camera down; RACK and find best location for breach. But on the bright side, the pups are saying..."Cool Dad...there's lots of new smells! Once when my sister and I were camping we had a guy walk up into our site and claim we were encroaching on his area (it was primitive camping location). Anyway, we moved far away from that location; only later to learn that a killer had been captured near there. THAT'S frightening!!
LMAO dude, you got me pulling my 45. Anyway keep hanging out there. I'll be on my way out next year full time. And I'll be packing with Squatch floods on the perimeter. Lol 🤟😎
I’ve been camping and backpacking in those woods my whole life. I’ve never gone in there, in my adult life, without a pistol. If I was in a rv, I might consider a shotgun as well. Be safe out there!
You almost had me there. Two quick camping stories: 1). I once had a genuine scary encounter while tent camping in a remote mountain area, with two very young kids and a scared wife. A large animal suddenly attacked another smaller one in a tree line about 25 feet from our tent. The screams of the animal being mauled woke us all up suddenly and like a good thing. I’ll fast forward to the end of this story,,,,, Let’s just say I was so glad I had my Ruger Mini-30 next to my sleeping bag with hicap magazines that night. 😜😜😜 2). A few years later, we bought an RV becasue wife didn’t like tent camping due to story 1. So there we are, all set up in another really remote part of the country. On night #2, some weird freak that no-joke, looked like a young and crazed Charlie Manson shows up about 40 yards from us. (I know right????). I’m thinking, why is this dude camping right on top of us? He’s in an old beater station wagon from like the 70’s and it appears he’s obviously a transient type, living in his car. Well I watch him retrieve a shovel and he begins digging a hole for the next couple of hours, just behind his car and with a dim lantern on. He also had a machete in a sheath on his belt and appeared to be talking to himself all night. At that camp (like all camps), I had a sidearm on me but legally concealed, along with my λR-Fifτεεη close by, but not displayed. He just kept me awake at night, creeping me out. When it was still daylight, I took a surreptitious picture of him, his car and license plate, “just in case.” Come morning, I stepped outside and he was gone and the hole was partially filled up. It was about 4’ X 4’ and the depth looked about 2.5’ below the surface, filled in. There was still a large amount of remaining piled-up fresh dirt he didn’t bother to fill in. Who knows how deep he dug down and for whatever reason. We decided to just pack up and go elsewhere. Really weird. I doubt he was burying anything, as doing that in front of potential witnesses would just be really stupid on his part. But I do think he was a cray man.
Holly cow that would scare me too much to stay camping next to that creepy guy digging that hole!! I would have packed up and left!! You’re braver than me lol 😆. Thanks for watching and sharing those stories 🤙
I would of made him move somewhere else from us, with all this space why beside us, then again I might have said let's roll!! But if I was bms I would have pulled my gun out on his ass for that. We just have alot of weird people and things out here, the hell with camping 🏕
@@charlesdial7152 You and your family are truly missing out on one of life’s enjoyable moments of “camping.” I live for it. It’s safe, but you just have to be ready for that once in a lifetime event of perhaps being your own “911.”
This is one reason why I usually have trap cams setup at my site. Ones that I can access from my cell phone via wifi. My friend actually has security cameras on his RV all around that actually notify him when something is spotted. That area tends to have some creepy people up there.
Find some good night vision camera's and hide them on your rig. I'm definitely having some sort of night security. Or a light that's automatic to come on when your rig is approached.
Hahaha 🤪 thank you for the kind words. I have always enjoyed making scary stuff like that. My Mom use to think I was weird because I would fix the house all up for Halloween 🎃 with a graveyard and crazy knife wielding cardboard shadow figures in the windows, ect hahaha 🤣 thanks for watching and commenting 🤙
Armed and ready. Anyone who boondocks with out a weapon and the ability to use it is really risking their life. Crazy people everywhere. They person took your chair and sat in it while watching your camper for no telling how long.
Thank you for commenting lol. I have had this same comment probably 3 dozen times and I’m not sure why I didn’t think of it when I made the video haha. But I know I’m going to make sure they are barking if I even make another scary one haha 😂 🤙
You are a brat sir….. you’re really had me going there. I was roughing it in a small cabin alone and in about two in the morning it sounded like to giant cats were killing each other right out in front of my place I was staying. Scared me half to death. The next day I drove to a phone told my mother what happened. And thanked her for helping me pay for the cabin. Because I was supposed to just stay in a tent. But the whole family decided no you will not stay in a tent. I was 22 when that happened. That was back in the early 80s. So yes watching this reminded me of that night. Also, I went camping there every year for 15 years. I was not going to let two large cats killing themselves in front of my place stopped me from coming.
Yeah that scenario has been one of my biggest fears. (Having someone or something outside my tent/rv ect) I stopped sleeping in tents as much because I always felt so vulnerable being on the ground and no real protection. That’s so awesome tho that you went back to that cabin and didn’t let it bother you 💪 I bet the second time visiting that cabin after the first incident was a little stressful tho right? Thanks so much for watching and sharing your story, I really appreciate it 😊🤙
I have actually been working on outside lights and I probably should get outside cameras in the near future too. Thanks so much for watching and commenting 😊
Oh my gosh hahahahaah ya got me! Right before your punchline it looked like you were going to start crying lol. I hike on the rim regularly and as the video started I was thinking I may have to find some new trails.
I actually had a real encounter like this that was real but crazy beyond this I used to live in a trailer next to a old house some guy rented me the trailer for 350$ a month with electricity and running water and heat with AC which I thought was a steal after living there after just 1 day I started noticing some weird stuff happening from the trailer moving side to side on it own and hearing knocks on windows and doors even inside the trailer but I would always think I was just because it was a older trailer it was making noise after 4 months there the trailer it got worse the knocks turned to loud kocks that sounded like some one wanted me to go and the dogs would bark out side like crazy and I would hear wet footsteps from the shower and had the windows open in the morning I then put cameras around the whole trailer and inside and found out there things would have no person behind them the windows would open on there won and the noises I heard under the trailer had laughs but no one ever sneaked under from the cameras I saw so after 4 months I had to leave because I couldn’t handle it no more couldn’t sleep with the noise or the stuff happening it was a spirit for sure that why it was so cheap I think the owner knew that but didn’t tell me
@@utahcountypicazospage5412 yeah but the owner ended up moving as well last time I drove by the house I looked at where the trailer used to be but it was empty

A lot of people lurking around in the dark are looking for those expensive coolers and the booze within them. We had a $300.00 cooler dragged out of our tent site with about 200.00 worth of groceries in it.
When you were talking about the campsite and the dude in the truck, I don't why but I kept on thinking about Jeepers Creepers and wrong turn that scary stuffs LOL you almost had me there! When I saw you pull that Glock out it was such a relief! I was really worried about you while that was all going on 🤣
Number one rule, besides always have a buddy with you, do not ever keep food in with you where you sleep. When I was young my parents had a camper like this in which my mom kept and cooked our food and a bear tried to break in. My parents thought it was a person, next day found the tent campers site nearby torn to shreds and bear prints outside our camper.
We were in Yellowstone that time, so not so surprising. However, I had it happen to me again some years later in central Missouri. That time it finally left my trailer to break in one where children had just been called inside for dinner. Some men heard the childrens’ screaming and came running with guns and were able to scare the bear off. It was on the edge of a small town and local authorities set up a baited cage and a couple days later caught a mother bear who had several cubs nearby. That was a unique situation but when camping, the rules apply no matter where you are if there are possibly bears or cougars/mountain lions even in a camper or trailer or even coyotes or smaller predators, if you are just in a tent. Keep food in bear containers attached to long rope and hung high toward end of a branch high in a tree and a bit away from your camp. Personally, I would rather they get my food than me 🤣
Omygosh!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😅 I’m a full timer and this was freaking scary! I literally made sure my doors were locked while watching your video. I kept giving of the worse case scenario, like he’s a serial killer on the run!
That's true!! If I knew people to camp with me all the time I would definitely feel safer. But this video was for entertainment purposes and I admit that I made the sound effects and was acting at the very end of the video. Thanks for watching
i figured you out from the start. for a man to have two dogs that werent going crazy barking i knew something was not right. but good point to make stay alert of your surroundings and be armed
Well i was thinking the ssme, like why r the dogs not going crazy. And why did we not see what hsppens after, like did u go outdide ,did u eat,lol good one

Get a locking gas cap so no one can limit your escape by ruining your gas. Maybe even find a way to create an entrance to your driver's seat to your cabin for a quick getaway.
You had me lol. Not going to lie, i sat here and said this man is terrified! Listen to his breathing! Good one 😂. And the chair super freaked me out before i knew it was a joke 😢
This was a really good video. I love camping out at the mogollan rim. After watching this I am going to make sure to carry a weapon with me every time I camp. It is beautiful during the day but pitch black at night. Kudos for camping on your own. I'm too scared 😂
You want a micro 7.62. Can be placed in bag hidden away. You also want a thermal scope to have general idea of what’s in surroundings. Small weapon best set up. - camping gun
No matter how far out, it's easy to see remnants of other people. You are not the only one venturing out. Great moment though of you being still and listening, that was awesome. Besides wildlife, there are CRAZY people everywhere.
Ain’t that the truth! I was out the other day cruising around some trails and found a ridiculous amount of garbage from people trashing camp sites. I’m not sure what’s happening to everyone but it seems like soooo many people lately are stressed, pissed, and extra lazy!! Anyways thanks so much for watching and commenting 🤙
Last fall while I was solo hunting in Northern Alberta, someone came into my camp and stole all my firewood and kindling. They didn't take my beer cooler or anything of value. The funny thing is that cut firewood was everywhere at the trailhead... they even took the unburned wood out of the firepit.

Solar motion detector lights pointed fairly straight down in case they get to close to trailer. Shotgun for close range. When alone play random conversation of you and others talking so they assume your not alone. When I hear noises I generally turn all the lights on making it painfully obvious to the intruder that you are aware of their presence. If all else fails shoot blanks thru the windows. That would of been the longest night of my life!!!! I don't know what scares me more knowing someone is prowling, or imagining it could be a cryptid. Balls of steel brother 😅
As I was watching, this became like a great mystery story I wanted to solve. Halfway into the video, I paused because all kinds of thoughts went through my mind. First, I said it was probably a bear. Then I said maybe a coyote or mountain lion. Then my mind went totally out there to Bigfoot, then to it possibly being an alien(extraterrestrial). I also thought, traveling alone and staying in these remote locations, dude, where is your gun? Now let me finish the video and see what it really was.

Thumbs up!
Or without her AR 12...
Its good to install camera outside to monitor what's going on in cases like this.
Yeah I have been looking into it, and plan to install some soon. Thanks for watching and commenting 😁🤙
Cameras will also deter Bigfoot. Bright lights that are motion activated.

You had me going with this, but I was wondering why your dogs weren’t raising the roof if someone was outside. 😂 Good advice though!!

Oh wow yeah that would freak me out and i would be out of there too!! Thanks for watching and sharing your story 🤙
Someone is a meth freak ….not sure if it’s you or your neighbor.

I’ve been camping and backpacking in those woods my whole life. I’ve never gone in there, in my adult life, without a pistol. If I was in a rv, I might consider a shotgun as well. Be safe out there!
Nothing like a nice Remington pump shotgun .
You almost had me there. Two quick camping stories:

This is one reason why I usually have trap cams setup at my site. Ones that I can access from my cell phone via wifi. My friend actually has security cameras on his RV all around that actually notify him when something is spotted. That area tends to have some creepy people up there.
thats exactly what i was thinking ....install the trail cams on the rv before you go to bed ....great idea
Find some good night vision camera's and hide them on your rig. I'm definitely having some sort of night security. Or a light that's automatic to come on when your rig is approached.

That cats were mating fool. Those are the creepy sounds they make.

That’s super scary 😧 what part of the country were they in? Thanks for watching and sharing this important tip
Personally, I would rather they get my food than me 🤣
i would definitely get some IR cameras on the outside so u can see all around and where they are and what there doing or if they have something

So what it was then?
Heres my one and only creepy ish camping story this happened on saturday the day before mothers day in 2012 or 2013 it was a family camping trip consisting of myself my brother and his wife my other brother his girlfriend and our mother the place we had originally planned to go had water over the road so we decided for our safety that we needed to go someplace else we wound up at the river in rhine ga we all set up our gear fished shot shotguns and had good time even saw a gator fall off a high bank in the water dusk came so we set up a few limb lines and got to cooking dinner we ate conversated checked and rebaited our lines then went to bed around 2 ish am we were awoken by a diesel truck in our camp
This part is told from my perspective when i realized that the truck had come to a stop i partially unzipped my tent thinking these people wanted something after at least 1 minute these people hadnt gotten out of the truck or made any attempt to contact us i got the feeling that these people werent friendly so i loaded up my shotgun (single shot N.E.F. pardner in 20 guage) during this whole time these people were parked right in front of my married brothers tent with the headlights on a few another 30 seconds or so passed at that point i opened my tent flap just a bit more and aimed my shotgun right at the passenger window at this point my unmarried brothers girlfriend texted my phone i shouldnt have but iopened the message it read as best i can remember 911 if your awake load your gun and be ready
I dropped my phone and started to unzip the tent and come out to let it be known that we were awake and not going to be victims but before i could the flap unzipped al the way
The truck backed up through the dying campfire and almost inhto the water then stopped briefly shining there headlights into my brothers tent illuminating the area enough for them to see my brother standing there with a shotgun aimed dead on at the driver its unclear if they saw me or my married brother when we exited our tents but both of us had our shotguns aimed at the back glass of that truck after seeing my unmarried brother with a shotgun aimed directly at them the truck drove out of our camp
My mother who was unarmed and in her van the whole time suggested that we just leave we contemplated leaving but ultimately decided to stay because we would have to go right by the truck and they could then potentially follow any one of our 4 vehicles on public roads where we couldnt legally do anything about it we would have left but the the truck for reasons unknown was setting at the end of the dirt road by the highway the following morning before leaving we rode around looking for the truck it wasnt around nor were there any houses close
My brothers and myself returned to camp we packed up removed our limb lines and went home
We have never returned to that area and we havent heard of any others having problems there yall be cool and thanks for reading
Wow first of all you really know how to tell a good story!! I enjoyed reading that!! You guys did the right thing, obviously because you’re all here to tell the story, but wow that would have freaked me out!! Thank you for sharing that story and thank you for watching 🤙
Man that situation was scary beacause one couldnt run away and leave family behind couldnt really shoot either because they hadnt done anything to justify shooting
Over the years that have passed since then ive come to a realization
Those people had my married brothers and his wifes life in there hands all they had to do was step on the gas pedal and run them over
When they backed up they easily could have turned the wheel right and ran me over or rammed my mothers van they could have attempted to run over my un married brother but he would have gotten a shot off im glad those people decided to just drive away
Omgosh that was scary...so happy you're ok!!!!❤️
I have to say i would've felt safe there with you....no nonsense!!

Oh ! He's got protection ! Very wise and I'd pop somebody in a heartbeat if they are trying to hurt or bother something of mine . He set every bit of that up 😂
I'm surprised not more people setup a wireless trail cam outside so if they get weirdos walking around they can see what they're doing
Atta boy, always pack a canon, every time I take my family out hiking, camping, always have one on standby.
Right!! Can’t trust people nowadays!! Thanks for watching 🤙
Time to invest in some external CCTV cameras with night vision. Have cameras to cover every angle of your camper. Have your monitors close to your sleeping area where you can easily monitor everything. I would also invest in some VERY LOUD speakers to frighten away any wild animals like bears, etc.
That’s great idea with the loud speakers!! I never thought of that. As for cameras yea I’m currently working on getting some, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Thanks so much for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it 😁🤙
@@worklessenjoylifemore yeah, you can have an really good amplifier and some outdoor, waterproof speakers. You can play very high frequency sound in the event that you have bears or other creatures in the area. They will clear out real quick if the sound is loud and painful.
