Hi friends and thank you for watching French for a Day! :) I hope you are all having a wonderful day! Let me know do you ask for samples of foundations before purchasing? And if you have found your holy grail foundation please share it in the comments (mention your skin type too) This will be helpful. xoxo
Hi beautiful Angela 💕 the red looks great on you 😊I have 3 HG foundations Dior airflash, make up forever hd skin, and EL hydra rescue my skin type is dry combination 😊
@@nadiadncr Hi Nadia :) And a huge thank you for sharing your favorites. I recently tried the Estee Lauder hydra rescue foundation and I was surprised how good it is. No wonder it's one of your holy grails. Have a wonderful day! xoxo
I use Too Faced Born This Way in Pearl for concealer and foundation. It is a difficult (medium or full coverage) texture, but it is the only color that works on me. I mix it with serum to thin it. My challenges are age, dark circles and a cool undertone under a light olive (sallow) color . I live in South Florida complete with heat, glare and humidity. So far, it's working.
It's true that back then we didn't really have lighter shades of foundation available! That's why I always looked orange when I was in high school loooll!
Yes, I have Italian relatives and my sister in law still complains that most stores in Italy don't have the pales foundations. As far as I know you are from Milan but in the smaller towns this is still the case. P. S. The flowers made my day! So beautiful. I bet they small divine. xx
I learned it from you Angela that lighter make up is better. Because when i see your pale skin i just like it very much. I ordered Chanel make up 22Cr and its exactly the right shade for me. I can see the difference when you have lighter make up. Now all my darker ones are sitting on the shelve. Thank you this knowledge Angela.
Foundation matching is the hardest thing in makeup. I recently realized I have very fair olive skin. It’s so hard to find a good shade. I’m always matched to a warm that turns orange, or they want me to be cool because of the redness from sun damage and aging. I have so many foundations that are the wrong shade. “When in doubt, buy the lighter shade” is great advice.
Foundation is always a forever experiment. At 55; well at 54 I finally have found my perfect shade and brand. Chanel Les Beiges Fresh Water Tint and Touch in Medium for the summer. If I feel the need for more coverage the rest of the year it is the Les Beiges Foundation 30 or 40 depending on when my tan goes away. I’m a neutral undertone.
Hi Angela. The perfect foundation for me is CHANEL Vita Aqua Lumierre. I have been wearing it for 15 years at least. Even with other foundations in my arsenal, it’s my go too. The shade I wear gives me life. The texture is perfection for my sixty year old dry complexion. If they ever discontinue it , I’ll b lost. Love these French vids. As a European woman myself living in the states, I always remain true to French beauty aesthetics of less is more. Keep up the good work!❤️💐
Great video Angela. I'd recommend using a little bronzer in your neck and decollete area if your foundation is darker. I recently discovered Nebu Milano and they have some amazing bronzing and makeup products. To your point though, our skin changes over time and typically in the summer we are darker than in the winter, so there is nothing wrong in using two different foundations depending on the season or the skin condition (hydration, etc.). I never throw makeup, I just use it or save it for later if it is not the right season. One technique I discovered myself is to mix my foundation with a lighter one, if it's too dark or with my cream especially when I suffer from skin dryness. The place we live in and the level of humidity in the air can make a huge difference in our skin and hair. I was in Ile Maurice for holidays recently and I noticed while staying there my skin was in the best condition It has ever been, my frown lines nearly disappeared and the skin was so smooth. Yet my hair suffered as humidity levels in the island are reaching nearly 90%. It taught me one lesson though, our skin is at it's best when we provide it with all the hydration it requires. Watering your skin at deep levels which cannot be done by creams but by the air makes a huge difference and you soon realize you need minimal makeup when you have a beautiful skin. So be cautious about the humidity levels in the area you live or on your home, if possible buy yourself a home humidifier and a good, light in texture face cream that penetrates deeper layers of your dermis. Makeup is just camuflage and it works perfect when you have a great canvas. My 2 cents.
My ancestry is Italian, with one stray Danish great, great grandmother. Although I have dark hair and eyes, my face is fair to light, so finding the right shade of foundation has been a challenge. Luckily, there are more shades available now and I’ve been surprised about how high up the shade range my best match is. Undertones are tricky, too. While I gravitate toward neutral or cooler undertones, I’ve found that some companies’ tone labels are incorrect, which further complicates things. The most reliably labeled foundations, at least for me, have been Sisley, Cle de Peau and Surratt. Many others, including Chanel, Givenchy and Guerlain, tend to be either too warm or too cool and, while they may appear fine upon application, the oxidation process changes that. All of that to say that you’re right about the importance of finding the right shade, and undertone, of foundation. It takes patience and perseverance to reach that goal, however. Thanks so much for the video.
WOW Angela love your blouse. That shade of red looks gorgeous on you. You are right. Most ladies use too dark of a foundation. I for one have a hard time choosing my shade. I am very pale an have pink undertones. Sales reps try to sale me very yellow foundations ( because you need a bit of color you are to pale) NO I need to take a sample home of the shade I like. Give me your business card and if I am happy with my choice I will call you. Most people wear very dark orange shades. Boy this was a long one. Enjoy your weekend. 🥰🥰🥰❤❤
The problem for the oily skin and my oily skin gals is we often have breakouts, acne etc and we exofilate use retinoidis and treat postinflamatory hyperpigmentation so our skin is also not dry but dehydrated. It is conplicated.
Hi Angela, thank you for another great video ❤ Just this year I found my Holy Grail foundation: Dior Backstage foundation. I have oily skin and had been looking for a light weight foundation that also works well with my Holy Grail primer (Laura Mercier Pure Canvas Primer Blurring Floutant). The Dior Backstage has a very thin consistency, is wonderfully light and stays put all day. On me this really does look like skin, I have very little need for powder, which for a person with oily skin is such a dream. My other make-up products work so well on top of this foundation, it’s almost as if they’ve all been upgraded too. I would recommend this to anyone with oily skin who is also in the market for a lightweight foundation.
I do ask for samples of foundation. I have quite a few favorites!! Em Cosmetics Dream Cushion foundation. LYS Serum Foundation, Rare Beauty Foundation, and Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. I have dry skin. Also
Hi, Angela! I do try the foundation in store and ask for a sample, too. With most brands, the lightest shade in a neutral or pink undertone works well for me. If you like light coverage, Fenty Beauty’s Ease Drop Blurring Skin Tint is what I recommend. I have oily skin and if you have dry skin if you moisturize well it would work is what I heard. It is a great no makeup makeup look product. As always, thank you for your insight, Angela! I hope Angela and all of you have a wonderful weekend! 💐💄🧴😄🤩💝💕❤️🌷
Hi, I love your videos and the natural looks you create! My perfect shade is B20 from Chanel no 1. Being madame age, dry skin and living in north, it is perfect. No shine, no glow, just healthy looking skin. I have tried other Chanel waterbased foundations, but after few hours, my skin looks dry and aged. I have been wondering and sometimes furious for sales ladies at the store. They try to sell too dark shades to make me look ’healthier’. I feel like looking like a clown! I think, if one uses just a hint on foundation from middle of the face and fading outwards, it is more beutyful to start with light shade to bring light and aeryness to your look.
Hi Angela! This is very helpful - thank you! My challenge is that I have a cool undertone - and the people in the store usually pick. out a shade in the neutral or yellow undertone to counter balance - but that just doesn't make me very good when I put it on at home - I kind of give up because of all the $$...maybe I'll try it again and ask for a couple of samples....you look awesome in your red! 🤗
Hello Angela! So much to say... First of all, you look absolutely stunning. Your hair is perfect and that shade of red looks gorgeous on you. Now I know why you are by far my favorite youtuber. You are relatable, sophisticated and feminine. But most of all you have fair skin just like me. It is very hard to find someone like you. Thanks to you I celebrate my fairness too!🤗 I have 8 foundations that haven't worked out for me. Every time a SA tries to help me they miss my shade or tell me that I need more color 🙄. I haven't thrown those out because they were quite expensive. But I don't use them either. It's frustrating. I'm 38 and I just stopped trying to find my shade. I have combination skin and I would say a neutral semi warm undertone. I like very light foundations since I really take are of my skin. Most brands differ on the undertones and it gets so exhausting... I sometimes wear Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer in the lightest shade with warm undertone and it doesn't suit me quite well. I tried both the lightest neutral and cool shade and didn't work for me at all. Now I prefer using Dior's dreamskin care and perfect or Guerlain's Meteorites primer by itself (it leaves an iridescent and matte effect at the same time). Could you please recommend me one that might suit my skin please? Just so I can check it out. Thank you for your kindness and for your nice comment at the beginning of the video. It made me smile. Love you!🤗
It's a very good suggestion to get samples to try in different lighting. I recently swatched different shades of Rare Beauty blush at Sephora. The colours looked different inside the store than when I stepped out into the mall, and I could see a difference.
Wow, I could not agree more about the right color foundation, Angela! It has been SO challenging for me to find the right shade, that I have gone for MOST of my life without it; never realizing there COULD be a better match and never realizing I COULD like the way I look when I look in the mirror! (The one I liked, by the way, was Sisley tinted moisturizer in Light. But now, I am looking for a replacement for that because as much as I love it, it is super expensive and....not all that natural. AND, the spf is very low, and I like all in one products to make my life simpler. Although....I recently tried RMS shade 22 and it's like wow - at least color wise - so I will probably end up using a separate spf anyway.). As far as lip color, I'm not at all a lipstick person, but I recently bought the RMS lip lights in Nude, and it actually adjusts to your skin tone and WOW - another wow. I love it!
Do you remember what was the foundation that she used on you :) I love when you share personal stories. I have the same issue with foundations. But I feel ashamed to ask for samples :(
Hi Charlotte. She used the Chanel's perfection lumiere velvet. It became my holy grail foundation for years. Then they reformulated it and now it's ultra le teint velvet and I didn't like the reformulation. xoxo
