    Hi friends and thank you for watching French for a Day! 😊 I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend! Let’s talk about fashion! What’s your biggest fashion mistake/s? Something that you purchased and then you felt regret.

      Cowboy boots. As I was once a younger man, I purchased a nice looking pair of tan cowboy boots. They were not exactly made for walking. Not very elegant either.

    Agree on all points!
    However, I was in a similar dilemma to uou with the Dior sweater, but for me it was a Gucci bag. I fell for a Horsebit mini in the navy canvas and a navy/ red strap. I don't buy logos either, so I didnt buy this, and worked out that it was the specific colourway that I loved. So I looked for something that was none branded (or less visibly so), but I couldn't find anything that gave me that same feeling. I sat on it for about two years, and couldn't get that bag out of my head. So the long and the short of it is, I bought the bag - its my only logo heavy item, and I actually couldn't be happier with it. It's never going to be my most worn bag (I'm not likely to grab it for a quick trip to the supermarket), but I know I'll really enjoy wearing it.
    So yes, there can sometimes be exceptions to the rules, but they should be considered and fit in with my personal style going forward.

    How nice! I am an 2nd generation Italian American. My parents taught us to dress for the occasion. Dress respectfully. Buy quality. We were taught flip flops belong on the beach. Runners for sports or moving. I agree to this day. I love flat leather thong sandals or flat strappy sandals.

    • @katgirlblue
      @katgirlblue 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not true. Most of them are made in Asia, in sweatshops. and often made by underage workers. Police in lots of countries arrest those manufacturers for making those knockoffs, which are really a form of stealing and it's considered a serious crime. It costs the companies billions of dollars in lost revenue.

  • @christinajones2182

    Excellent advice. I remember in Venice a few street sellers selling fake handbags, and I never felt the urge to buy one. I would rather buy a bag from a small brand and leave the designer bags alone. I love to see them, but a girl has to know her limitations! The same with shoes, my sister can wear high heels, she just can, but I love a loafer or semi flat. I like Tod's, and own a pair that I have had for years. I loathe a logo on clothes. I notice that French and Italian women can spot a fake at a hundred paces, and can show their thoughts on a logo with an elegant raise of an eyebrow! You are so right Angela, we must respect ourselves, and the research and design of the fashion houses, it ultimately filters down to us, to see a vintage bag or outfit is glorious.

    • @Frenchforaday
      @Frenchforaday  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Christina! :) What you saw is Venice is very common in all Italian cities. I often see tourists being tempted to buy those. I remember once I was in the metro and a lady was carrying three of these bags. :) Overall in Europe it's not uncommon to see such goods sold on the street. Great topic, I am so sick and tired of brands using huge logos all over their clothes and bags, I am not paying to be their billboard, and I am also sick and tired of all the teenage girls walking around with Chanel and Prada bags like they own the world when in reality they can’t afford a sandwich for lunch.

  • @elizabethh9591
    @elizabethh9591 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Completely agree on the fake handbags. Nobody NEEDS a designer bag. If it is out of a person's price range, there are so many smaller brands /local artists that hand craft quality bags that are affordable. I cannot imagine purchasing a fake (besides knowing it is a fake) - you would have to know that it most likely involved child labor. I was always taught that in the long run, it is more cost effective to buy the best quality that you can afford, so that's what I have strived to do. Things will last longer, and when you properly care for them, you purchase less. I saw a video pop up on my TH-cam home page where someone ordered about 8 new wedding dresses - all around $50. They don't even think about the labor practices behind that. Do people ever wonder who is being forced to hand sew the all the beads on a $50 wedding dress?

I like to say “it’s expensive to dress cheaply ” because as you spoke about, they fray quickly and then you have to repurchase them more frequently than had you bought a more expensive item that is crafted well. What a fun video! Merci beaucoup ❤

    Fake handbags are a line I would never cross. I agree about purchasing quality items. I have been disappointed recently that some clothing brands I rely on for my classic style seem to be cutting corners and the quality has decreased. It can be difficult to know that without going into the store or ordering garments on line.

    I love this series. You always give sensible advice. I agree with you that people should dress how they like, but to consider what is appropriate for their age. In my opinion, middle-aged women look ridiculous wearing styles that are more appropriate for teenagers, e.g. jeans that have the holes and tears in them. I don't like these jeans on anyone, regardless of age, but they look particularly silly on older women.

  • @giedrebey5444
    @giedrebey5444 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Agree with you ,Angela, to the extent, well my body is still in 30’s 😜. I started working out from 5, in my 20’s i had a good body, but once i came to US and became personal trainer, in my 30’s, my body looked much better that even in 20’s, and 20 years later i still havent change much. Eating healthy is a key. Its even more important than exercise, which needed as well😜 now when it comes to dressing, i dont like when ppl are saying you should dress your age. What does that even mean. Now of course, even i still have the same body, as in my 30’s , i dress not the same. I like all styles. Some days i want to dress sporty, next avant-garde, or classic . But i was dressing like that always. Now my more sexy outfits, i changed ratio of sexy/ classic it used to be 70/30% now its more like 40/60. Now logos, i never liked that either. Now artistic way logo, i dont mind, for example i have Chanel caftans, there are cc’s and some chanel writing in the colorful design. Or even t shirts, with some calligraphic logo writing in the design, but nope to just printed straight brand name. No thought, no artistry, just printed in bold letters name. I dont like that. For the same reason, i never liked LV handbags. Now shoes, thats tough for me. Its hard to find shoes that would fit me. I wish that brands would make shoes true to size meaning 42 should 42 , not 39 or 40. So most European designer shoes, i cant wear 😂 so it happens that i have to buy little bit too small. But if its uncomfortable, i never really wear. Now when it comes to fake stuff, i dont like , but not for the same reasons as illegal, what exactly is illegal ? When you know the truth about corrupted system…. and how we, the people are being used/ abused, their so called illegal is a joke to me. Also i heard that now, the fake bags, and not just bags, are so hard to determine, if its fake, those super fakes are better quality, than original ones , so i dont think if its really good fake, no one would notice. 🤪😱 so those reasons, are not mine reasons, i just dont care for it, i dont know maybe i still brainwashed/ hypnotized, so on purpose i would not purchase fake item, but if we buy from second hand markets, we never know do we? Those authentications not always right Now the fabric quality and cut, to me are the most important. Even if you take some more sexy outfit, in a great quality , cut and fit, its going to look sexy, but not over the top. but the same outfit in cheap quality, cut and if not the right fit, you might look very provocative, funny , even vulgar😱 Have a blessed day🙏💗

    • @Frenchforaday
      @Frenchforaday  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi lovely :) And thank you for a very thoughtful comment. I truly enjoy reading such substantial comments. I agree with you on the artistic logos. These can look very nice and add a certain amount of style and chicness. Videos usually generalize a lot. It's inevitable. I fully agree with you that if you have the body and if you worked for it, then why not show it :) Of course there is a fine line between sexy and vulgar. Also I find that with clothing that is more 'sexy' and provocative the body shape is key! One dress can look gorgeous and attractive on a well toned body; and that same dress can look bad on someone who is not blessed with beautiful body. So it all depends. We should always take into consideration our own body and preferences of course. Thank you for watching and have a great day! xoxo

    Hi Angela!! I think these are all excellent tips. I'm 46 years old and also have the ability to buy some luxury items, however, I find it distasteful to buy handbags with monogrammed letters all over them or cheap imitations. I'd rather have a few highly crafted handbags than one advertising the brand. The same with clothing. I've gone back to basics with my clothing and at 46 I don't want to wear items that appear to be designed for teenagers or young adults. I'd rather have clothing that shows simple elegance in natural fabrics such as linen, silk, cashmere, leather. Not in excess....more in carefully chosen pieces that I love. I try to stay away from patterns, focus on neutral toned pants, blazers, cardigans, blouses, and add in some color with a camisole or similar. For me...shoes need to definitely be stylish and practical. I work in a professional setting, however, need to be able to comfortably walk quite a bit daily. These are all great tips!! Thank you! ❤

    Thank you for the tips. I cannot do high heels because I have issues with one of my feet. Flats and the occasional kitten heal are for me. I have a couple fake handbags, but use them for fun and like the look. But definitely, I would not use them in any major cities around the world. I have a real Gucci white handbag that I will use at this time of the year and an old Louis Vuitton that needs to be repaired and spruced up. Hopefully I can get that done this year. I’ve been thinking about how my body has changed since I was a young adult in my 20s and now in my 50s . I remember the days of being a size USA petite 2 and now a U.K. 12. I have come to the conclusion I just want to be healthier and more fit. I’ve recently gone back to playing tennis. I am hoping to be able to trim down a bit. Tight clothes are definitely a No-no.

    It’s true French women do not wear logos and there is no chase to own next Chanel bag like in the US which is very brand centric and that’s very nice

    If we consider the average salary in France, it’s logical that women can’t buy a Chanel bag. Most of them cannot actually afford a Chanel make up…. They wish, they could buy a bag, but they just can’t….. and to be honest, women who buy Chanel bag, don’t care about the bag, they just want to show that they have enough money to have Chanel stuff

    Agreed that bags must not be fake,i mean sure agree that it's not the right thing to do,however buying uncomfortable shoes which dont fit is just as disrespectful considering the entire weight is borne by the feet.
    Also chanel leather bags are no longer durable they were they used to be...just saying.
    Enjoyed the video nevertheless

    I buy my designer items second hand. I'm not too proud to buy someone else's cast offs but I never buy logos. If people recognize my items, then good for them but I never advertise the fact. I am also over 50, six feet tall and my knees and ankles can no longer cope with a high heel. I prefer to stick with flats or a nice kitten heel :)

      Hi Lisa :) There is nothing wrong in buying second hand. I think this supports sustainability. I'm exactly 6 feet tall as well. :) I used to love high heels in my early 20s. :) Now, not anymore. I love kitten heels and ballerina flats. I find them to be very flattering. Have a great weekend and thank you for watching! xoxo

    I bought some beautiful shoes sneakers from Love Shack Fancy. Bought them on line, hoping they would look good. I do like them, but not very comfortable at all, and to me a way high price tag.😪

    I’m personally not a fan of logos. Unfortunately, I think a lot of fashion houses are focusing on making products highly recognizable rather than creative and fresh.

    How does one express Logos never wear logos on clothing sometimes one has no choice in bags for example I have some never big logos Dooney&Bourke ,Coach I personally like any Italian leather but the logo has to be very small or hidden please don’t get me wrong but I’m of certain age that doesn’t believe in advertising something that I’m not getting paid for 😂

    Well I admit I love designer bags and have quite the beloved collection from many different brands. But I take too good care of them to take them with me when I travel. Maybe just a small clutch packed in my suitcase if we plan to go out to a fancy dinner. Otherwise they stay home safe and sound. Airplane Overhead bin? Under the seat in front of you? Absolutely not!!

    Those designer handbags are all made in Turkey anyway. I visited Turkey often and I can tell you that the big brands are all being made in Turkey and then the Turkish copy them to perfection with even better quality. Good tips on the shoes but after all in Paris or anywhere in the world just be you. I personally have been to Paris and I have seen clothes that didn't look good on Parisian people too so just wear what makes you feel confident anywhere you go I say. Elegance is always key.

    I don't know if it's because I'm from a French city, but I would never wear anything with logos! I live in the US and am always amazed when I see people wearing these (usually fake) things! I think it looks awful, and why would I pay them to advertize for them? It looks terribly cheap to me, even when the product is authentic.

    J`aime le French Style very much: Elegant and unobtrusive, very tasteful and simple. I do not like American style: Loud, intrusive, exaggerated (the terrible make-up!) and sloppy. Salutations d'Allemagne

    I hate LV logo and flower pattern. Just looks so busy. And tacky. Gucci GG canvass/buckle is a little better but not much. Dior items are beautiful but totally ruined by CHRISTIAN DIOR in gigantic letters. And their oblique print is so drab reminds me of Soviet Union clothes from my childhood.

    I found that comment about the fake bags to be in poor taste because not everyone can afford luxury bags, if people want to buy fakes and it makes them happy then so be it. I owned a few years ago. This channel is not for me since I’m not rich.
    I have all kinds of bags, from Chanel to Walmart, and I carry them all with pride. I also wear all kinds of makeup, from Chanel to ELF Cosmetics, whatever I’m in the mood for. I’m not refined enough for this channel. I’m a Jersey Girl who loves leopard print, costume jewelry, long nails and has a vast collection of Michael Kors handbags and wallets that I value as much as I value my Chanel double flap. I bet he’s not high end enough for these rich snotty people.
