The lore is so intricate and it makes me so happy every time I see a video because I barely know anything about Mario but I’m deeply invested in this series
I'd love to add as a lover of the literary that what Ken is addressing here is called, at least in part, "artistic fallacy". Specifically, the author's bias variation. This is the untrue notion that the only interpretation of art that is acceptable or reasonable is the one that the artist intended. So Ken here is encouraging us to not commit artistic fallacy (in telling us that the intended meaning Ken has is not the only one,) while also showing what was truly intended, and I adore this from creators. To see a good example of this, you can consider Sinclair's book The Jungle, which was intended to shed light on the awful working conditions in factories in order to paint a so story for workplace reform - it instead hit audiences directly in the stomach by shining a light on how poor food conditions were and lead to a lot of the reform that gave us the real life American FDA.
Excellent analysis, another great example is Nabokov’s Lolita. He thought it would be crystal clear to audiences that Humbert was a very sick man and his narrative was the distorted reality of a pervert/predator. Instead it’s almost universally read as something a kin to erotic fiction.

To his utter dismay, many found genuine morals in the writing, such as Humbert Humbert's repeated back and forth about doing immoral things and how little it matters - he chooses to kill Lolita's mother, but before he actually can, she ends up drowning on her own. Her death is one of the crimes he's ultimately in jail for and writing his appeal account towards, but according to his own testimony, we don't like him more but he truly didn't do it. Instead of mildly entertaining story, the resulting piece of fiction was perceived in tons of different ways across time since it was written, but especially in modern literature this trend of "How evil is evil? Is evil evil when it's intended, even if it's not accomplished? Is evil evil when it's not intended, but has dire consequences? Is evil evil if it was not premeditated but wasn't stopped when we understood it was evil? Is evil evil if we did nothing while evil happened - is being a bystander evil? Is evil evil if you intended to help and ultimately caused harm?" Please take care of your creations. They will be loved, hated, understood, misunderstood, and experienced in ways you could never imagine
I remember reading that book in junior high. I don't remember the topics discussed, but I remember both fronts turning my stomach. I'm old and have had 2 tbi's, so remembering the impact of that book, at least to me, shows the power of it. It is no surprise it hit enough people to make real change! One of my favorite examples of this sort of thing is with the Percy Jackson series when someone asked the author, Rick Riordan, if the main character Percy had a crush on his former mentor Luke because that’s how they’d always read it. The author said that that idea never crossed his mind while writing them, but that what he intended didn’t really matter because the only “true” canon is what is on the page. Once it’s out of his hands and onto the page and into readers hands it’s up to them how they interpret things, so if people read it as Percy having a crush on Luke then that’s canon to them, regardless of whether or not that’s how he intended it.
I also think it's relevant that, for Boo, Peach and alcohol are framed somewhat similarly- something that is bad for him, that he's done bad things pursuing his desire for them, and he knows it- and Peach comes in just when Boo has finally managed to kick one of his vices both of his worst temptations, together, and he's already given into the wine. if Peach offered him his _other_ vice, he wouldn't say no. Boo knows it, Peach likely suspects (though she lacks some of the context the audience and Boo himself have about why he's attracted to her and who she reminds him of)
I figured that was probably why Boo let her come back in, he knew he probably shouldn't but he did anyway. I liked the symbolism of her bringing in and lightly stroking/caressing the wine, she may or may not know she can tempt him and she can be using that to her advantage
No, i definitely appreciate that, sometimes like you said its nice to figure out symbolisms for yourself, but one of the reasons i like watching reviews of books and movies is becouse they often point out symbolism, and motiefs that i didnt notice when i consumed the media.

ugh and like- so many episodes have been boo fighting so hard to cut drinking out, at his own detriment, but the minute it gives him a chance to talk to peach again, he takes it. not only is he going through withdrawel, but it's peach, the girl who reminds him of a certain prophetic princess/the woman he first loved, peach who also offered friendship before s*x, who is the siren holding the wine. boo is a broken man in need of therapy, and peach is a person who knows how to manipulate that. she's not stupid, she's just desperate for power.
I see a lot of people implying Boo is only attracted to Peach because of their similar appearance, but I speculate that while she did catch his eye that time for that reason, he is also just in general attracted to her regardless. It also seems like not only did he distrust Peach because he speculated what she was after in terms of power, but he kept his distance because he could not trust himself with her either. Being as nice as I can to the audience- the “misconception” about Peach and Boo (and Peach and Bowser) is often just the audience’s misogyny showing. Ppl want it to be all her fault bc they would rather engage with the idea of the “evil temptress woman” than understand the nuance of her position (a husband who can be angry and somewhat abusive, abusive childhood, the whole Boo thing). Especially because those same people often present the brothers in an unrealistically good light.
I don't think it's all misogyny, Boo acts cold and indifferent towards Peach for most of the series and most people would interpret the way he kept his distance from Peach up until the affair as him not liking her. Paired with him mistaking her for Rosalina, I can see why some people thought he only slept with Peach because he was drunk and had Rosalina in mind the whole time, it's probably confusing for people who don't experience much sexual attraction to understand that nuance

See, I interpreted that very differently. I was more focused on Peach’s perspective, notably her wanting to poison him as mentioned in earlier shorts. So I interpreted her “flirty” behavior as more anxious because she doesn’t want to get caught. I did actually “correctly” interpret Boo’s line tho.
I think the only reason i dont like boo x peach is i want boo x anyone else. Its so sad because he ultimately was just looking for some form of companion ship his whole life and when he finally tries to beat his addiction it was a little too late 😢 lot of people can relate to that
