That liquid Metal Sonic touched is called the Metal Virus. it is able to turn living things into mechanic beings. He saw that it affected Sonic, but wanted to see if it could affect him because he wanted to be real. Unfortunately, he realized it had no affect on him because he was a robot.

If you don’t understand what metal is doing the liquid right there turns living organisms into mechanical beings so metal dipped his finger in to see if it would work on him, but he knows that it wouldn’t. He knows he’s not sonic and just wants to be real.

But his original concept is literally just a "robot doppelganger", I'm generally surprised that Metal Sonic, unlike other hedgehog robots, managed to become an integral character in the franchise.
Metal sonic didn’t want to just be a clone, he wanted to be real, and not a mere replica of sonic, but realized that he will never be real, he will never be sonic.

I wonder if its possible instead of a liquid that turns organic beings into metal possibly someone smart enough can make a liquid that turns metal into living organic beings. And how it affects metal sonic. I always liked metal sonic truly but i never was aware how deep this character truly was. After looking into it hes definitely up there on my top 5 sonic characters for what he represents and his design is great. If only he had someone like shadow had which was maria to recognize what he felt.

I never thought Metal Sonic could actually have emotions like that. He's sad and angry that he's just a machine, but he also has feelings. I feel bad for him, and I wish he could be able to speak how he feels.

Metal to me is what makes Eggman so evil, he literally programmed Metal to think in this way, ingrained it so deep into Metal's code that Metal doesn't just think he's Sonic, he KNOWS he's Sonic, there's not a shadow of a doubt in his view that he's a copy and Eggman sends him out against someone that literally uproots that existence, now it makes sense that Metal would turn against Eggman, he made a free thinking machine (which he does a lot) and set him up for failure, what did Eggman think was going to happen when Metal met Sonic?
A rivalry perhaps, that’s why hed believed that metal sonic would get made enough to beat original sonic

He Actually is real according to a thearoy in a different timeline sonic lost to eggman causing him to be robotized by eggman then eggman sent metal to the timelime we know to help the eggman in our timeline this is why metal was able to use chaos emeralds to go super and use chaos control

There’s been times Metal never even wanted to kill sonic, just wanted to race him, and he’s surpassed Sonic’s speed before also, and is probably very capable of killing him but he wants to be Sonic, who is well you know a hero.
