As someone who received a master's in sports management and works in MLS, I would say that it's only as impactful as the connections you make in the program! It's who you know and how hard you chase, and most importantly how much you nurture your relationships.
@@alyssagentile8479 hi, if I have a bachelor's in physical education. Can I apply for a master's sports management degree or I need another degree more?
Alyssa, I am about to graduate this fall ‘22 with my Bachelors in BBA and concentration in sport management. I live here in San Antonio and there is a USL team here , San Antonio FC. I noticed there really isn’t many positions open in an organization like that. I have prior military experience as well. Is there more positions inside an MLS team and do I necessarily need to start at a sales position? Thanks for your time.
Thank you for the video. I've just graduated with a Bachelors degree of Sports Management at Victoria University here in Australia this year 2022. All I can say is, this program has gave me so much knowledge and new understanding, and sort of open up my mind to different areas within the Sports industry like sports and active recreation, programming for sport, sports inclusion and exclusion, marketing, coaching, human resource management, financial management, ethics in Sports, sociology of sports, leadership and management in sports, etc... Workload is okay as long as you are committed to it.
That is awesome to hear, I’m 20 and I live in Melbourne, sport is my whole life but I’m still trying to decide which pathway to go down, would you say this is a good start? Also what is your short term and end goals with this course? Cheers
Trevor, thank you for this video. My name is Chayton, I am in my second semester in the University of Michigan Sport Management Program, Recently I have had my doubts, and I’ve thought this program wasn’t for me, but only because I don’t know what it would take to succeed in this field. This video gave me some insight into what I need to do. Thank you, this will help immensely.
IMO, any college degree is as useful as the amount of effort you're willing to put into it. Being said, I feel as though many sports management majors go into the degree because they enjoy watching/playing sports but don't think of the competitiveness of the industry and that everyone and their grandmothers enjoy sports. The reality is that this is a major where you need to truly stand out and most people simply aren't willing to put in that work.
Fantastic video man. I hated my first year as an Econ major and was thinking about switching over to a sports management path at my university. This really helped, appreciate you posting this.
What's up Trevor this was a great video for me to watch since I'm interested in going into this major. If you have the time, Id really love to connect and talk about the overall experience you've had going into the major while searching for internships and job opportunities in this field. Thanks for the video on this!
Numbers are a huge part of sports, but as long as you can use a computer and you're not a complete idiot you will make it thru the math portion, you'll just have to work a little harder then others
Loved the video, thank you very much! Can you make a video of what can I do with this degree? Also if it's necessary to have a degree or I can take a course of sports management?
I am interested in going into sports management. I love hockey and anything hockey but does that limit my choices of what i can do? Or does the degree talk about all sports?
Do you recommend it? I am struggling on what major to choose, I like sports, in love with football (soccer) and wanna pursue a career in it, but i dont know exactly what
Sport management is great for people wanted to work in sport but don't know exactly what they would like to do yet. You will have classes in many different aspects of the industry and you will be able to learn what you like to do the best. You can then start to focus in on that career path. I recommend researching the different careers in sport because there are all kinds of different opportunities.
hey dude loved the video, Im trying to apply to some sports management courses but I live in canada and I have no way of seeing any ranks of what universities are best for this career

This was helpful, as you can probably see I’m a huge sports fans, I played sports all through high school and before it but I’m not really sure if it could be a solid career path for me
Have you developed any skills in college that you think will help in the future? (internships, interviews etc) and what skills do you think would be important for people like me going into college.
My internship definitely taught me the most of anything I did in college to learn about my career path. An internship will teach you most of the skills you need to be successful in that specific kind of role. I think the best "skill" to have going into college is to not be afraid to ask for help. It's kind of generic, but there are going to be some things you're great at, and others that you're not. Many of the most successful people are the ones who use the resources provided to them on campus. That could be anything from asking for help with writing papers or studying, or financial management and career planning. The other thing I will say is to take on more responsibility at college than just going to classes. It could be anything from joining a club and taking a leadership role in that, or finding a satisfying job to earn some money. I think doing this is important in order to build useful skills while at school.
Hey i was planning to do masters in sports from Loughborough. Is it a good college to do it? Also should I select a specific major or general. Please help
Depends on which concentration of the field you want to study (ex: Coaching, Business, Kinesiology, etc.). I'd recommend speaking with your Guidance Counselor as well as researching the "Four-Year plans" of each College program that you're considering.
Hey I’m an Australian undergrad student, I’m interested in sports mgmt careers in the US (I love UFC, NFL & NBA), but it’s tough bc in I different country completing my final year of a finance major, what do you recommend?
Hey Jacob. You can absolutely get into sport marketing as a career. Most sport management programs have sport marketing courses. You can also choose to minor in marketing which will teach you more well rounded skills for your future career. I would also recommend connecting with sport marketing professionals on LinkedIn and ask how they were able to get where they are today. Hope this helps!

Hey Trevor, I’m currently working on my degree of Business Administration in Sports Management. I like the video but I’m still left wondering a few things. I like all sports but my favorite is soccer . Is being only into one sport gonna hurt me in the long run? Also, while I did choose this degree specifically because I wanted to be able to work in sports and be close to soccer at the same time , I still find it hard choosing which field to focus on. I figured if I couldn’t play professionally maybe I can work on the business side. I’m a sophomore and just started my first handful of business classes.
