  • In this video, I have discussed how to apply response spectra load on basis on ASCE 7-16 code (IBC 2018) in STAAD.Pro CONNECT Edition. This includes discussion on seismic parameters required for response spectra analysis, generation of dynamic load combination cases and mass model. Also I have covered how to perform different irregularity checks including torsional irregularity check and review results from output file as well as from post-processing table.

    Hi, I am using ubc 97 code which i need to use generic spectrum in staad. This has no option button of considering inherent and accidental torsion. Hence, i cant complete my response spectrum analysis. What are the steps to consider such torsion in other ways and incorporate this in the load combination to include in the design calculation. I hope you can give me a better idea regarding this matter. Thanks for your video and keep sharing ideas.

    Hello. I hope all is well
    I have a question
    In the response spectrum load case there is a direction factor which we take it as (I/R) according to IBC code (in case of this video you have taken 0.28). What is this direction factor in case we use Indian Standard code? is it still (I/R) or anything else?

      It's (Z/2*I/R). Spectral acceleration is considered from response spectra data. Anything else which is required to calculate Ah value should be provided as direction factor.

      If you can create a single floor correctly using proper structural elements and connections, rest is easy. You can copy paste or repeat to generate the entire structure (for typical floor). Else you can use building planner mode if the floor plans change in different storey. And yes, I have some plan to start a new series on seismic analysis explaining each component. Stay tuned.
