Piano Concerto No.2 “After Lewis and Clark” (2004)
I commissioned Philip Glass to write his second piano concerto back in 2001. My adopted state of Nebraska was preparing for the bicentennial commemoration of the Lewis and Clark expedition and I knew that Glass would be interested in a musical treatment of this subject. The commission was funded by the Nebraska Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commission, the Lied Center for Performing Arts, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. The world premiere performance was given by the Omaha Symphony under the baton of Victor Yampolsky with myself as soloist and R. Carlos Nakai on native American flute. - เพลง
Great to hear Modern Music containing rational and emotional integrity along with such fluidity and sensuality. Paul Barnes is an exceptional virtuoso pianist, a superb performance from all! Thank you for creating this masterpiece! (from Canada)
Mr. Barnes interpretation is very stunning and the flutist is exceptional. Thank you. 🙏
Unbelievable concerto. Flute is wonderful.
Philip Glass - proud of Modern Musical Culture.
Most Rhythmic Piano Concerto ever written. Absolutely Genius of Music - Philip Glass.
omg why this concerto is so underrated? its so good.
Glad you enjoyed it! It's a ball to play!
Excellent performance! I listen to “Sacagawea” every morning while I shower. It’s been my morning routine over the past years. This performance is solid!
Just discovered this and I’m mesmerized!
Thank you.
Fantastic! Thank you so much for making this available. It is such a beautiful and evocative concerto. I have been listening to Philip Glass's music for a few years but have only just come across this wonderful concerto and performance. Definitely the Glass sound, very beautiful. Thank you.
Wow, I was mesmerized it had some great rhythms in this. Loved the Native flutist. Wish it was performed more.
I love *all* Philip Glass' concertos (and several other compositions). However, this one is really tremendous. *Fascinating.* Thanks a lot, M. Barnes for such sharing.
Thank you for commissioning this masterpiece, Paul! What a treat!
Marc! Thank you! Just played the third movement today here in New York picking out a new Steinway!
@@unlklavier New Steinway? Lucky man! 😄
I love Phlip Glass it's my favorite composer of 20th century
The second movement is astonishing: Glass gives greateness to the humble flute
Thank you! I just performed my chamber version of this movement last week with Ron.
Paul Barnes is Great. Paul feel every note of Philip Glass's Music.
Excellent performance. The pianist is top notch. All from memory too!! Beautiful sounding piano too
Beautiful music. always fresh, always inspirational.
Thank you Moshe. This concerto is very dear to me! Hope you get my official recording.
A really magnificent concerto this is!! So wonderful and great!! I am so glad that I've found it!!!
A ravishing concert and an enchanting performance! Glass' concertos for solo instrument and orchestra are my favourite of his works. I hope he composes for many more years.
Thank you Tom! Hope you’ll be able to attend a live performance! Playing tonight in Philly but also doing a beautiful arrangement of Sacagawea in New York on May 24.
@@unlklavier Does it just seem that way to me as a layman, or is your keystroke the softest I've ever heard on a Glass? Very pleasant.
Kind regards from Berlin
@@tombeton9300 Rats! You're in Berlin! Just played some Glass in Greece in July but not booked in Germany as of yet!
My Sept 26th performance with Ron Warren here in Lincoln will be livestreamed though and you can watch if you don't mind staying up rather late!

I love the bass player behind the conductor, really getting into the rythmns...
Impressive piano performance! LIKE 278 from Germany!
Great composer, great piece, and great performers! Well done!
Moving music that makes a protest if one thinks about it some.
Philip Genius
One of my favorite Piano Concerto, congratulations! Hope to be able to see it in concert one day.
Ahora si que se descosió el Director con esta maravillosa obra de Glass.
Bravo a l'hautboiste pour le souffle dans le debut du 3e mvt. Et Bravo a tout le monde, la flute est magique
amazing ...
01:28 the double bass player likes the piece as well. :-)
Now I listened to it, this has become my favourite interpretation of this concerto, you kind of embody Glass' music or the other way round. Really perfect and moving! The flutist and you seem two brothers, different songs and sounds matching perfectly. Thank you.
Thank you! Ron just wrote a new piece for me that I’ll be premiering on Sept 26. Have you listened to th-cam.com/video/bKBsnf_kYjk/w-d-xo.html
Espectaculares , las tres piezas!
I listened to this while at the gym. Perfect Match. The repetitive movements mesh with the music
No matter the age of the Master, he continues to amaze us all. A brilliant work. Reminds me of an avalanche of musical notes that perfectly falls into place. Bravo, Maestro! This period of music will be known as the Glasstonian Period.
Since becoming a Buddhist I appreciate Philip Glass' music even more. I've always loved it musically but I think it also has a Buddhist sensibility. Glass himself practices Tibetan Buddhism.
Glass' work has a mantra-like quality to it. Listening to it is centering and focusing if you approach the repeated portions like the words of a mantra to be given your full attention.
Whe can I download this masterpiece in your performance? In flac.
One of the greatest concerto I have ever listened to!
Great concerto. The orchestra must really have been tested with such a deceptively difficult, and fast repetitive accompaniment. The Land was especially ambitious. Did you add octaves in the first movement? I loved the native American flute. That guy did a wonderful job.
Thank you! Ron just wrote a new piece for me I’ll be playing in Greece in a few weeks. Have you listened to Distances Between 2?

I hear The Hours in this
👍 👍 👍
quite delicious......
very nice performer.
where can i find the full score of this piece ?
It’s published by Chester Music
I like this work and your performance Paul! Is the cadenza in 3rd movement is added by yourself?
and the native american flute is sounds nostalgic
Yes it's my own cadenza. I think it works well and it's a ball to play!
@@unlklavier hahaha, bravo!
Quantum OCD
I listen to this while putting up dishes to make the chore even more boring.
This composition is a colossal bore !
What crap!
Horrible.. I think Philip glass is done.. nothing to say..
