    I had a 80 Sportster and put a Mikuni VM on it. Back then that was the Harley shop big seller. Hope you get it to run good!

    Had a '73 sportster, one of the intake valves was stuck open----spit fuel out the carb. Took the pushrods adjusters way loose & started moving the pushrods up & down with a screwdriver levered on a cooling fin, eventually freed up the stuck valve. Ran terrible for a dozen miles till the valves started to seal again. Had to re-adjust the valves about every 300 miles for a month. Use zip ties, keep the throttle cables close to the backbone of the frame then put the tank on.

    Looks like you have a few problems with that bike. You need somebody who knows a bit about Harleys as they're usually not that hard. Check your main jet and use recommended settings from S&S for starters. I'm running one of those knock-off carbs on my Shovel and it starts usually the first kick, the only mod I did was drill & tap the air bleed hole inside the carb like the new S&S Es have but that's for better tuning, you won't need that for starters. Look on the net for the S&S manual. And the carb has an enrichener, not a choke.

    as far as the flooding goes, in case no one mentioned it yet, when you twist the throttle on an s&s carb (imitation as well i assume) its going to spray a strong jet of fuel into the intake. coulda been you just flooded it from doin that. weird that the kicker isnt returning though. keep at it man. you got it.

    Did you check the accelerator pump diaphragm at the base of that accelerator rod, 3 screws at the bottom plate?

      On the khlein I did and I even bought a rebuild kit for it as well but had no luck

    I have one of those, you need to get an S&S emulsion tube to make it work. For some reason the Chinese didn’t drill holes in theirs. With the tube mine runs like a too and starts 1st or 2nd kick.

    Listen, keep going with it.
    Pull motor, get a engine manual and get crackin!...the ironheads are very easy to work on

    you might want to check your compression with a gauge it seems pretty easy to kick over and maybe check your push rod adjustment. hope that helps. you might also want to pull a spark plug and check your spark just to make sure.

    that older Harley carb will not pump If.. check Valve..seized, all the ones i worked on have been seized .along with a number of other conditions easily corrected .ill do a vid before Spring..If im still Here

    It,s a plunger that is next to cable.The tear drop air cleaner has the choke lever that you pull up.

    I bought the same carb from Amazon. Did you have to install the jets that came with it in the baggie? Or are some jets already in it? Don’t want to open it up if i don’t need to first.

      It came with jets already installed. The other ones are just for the option to change them should you want too.

    I rebuild that style of Keihin all the time. The problem you’re having with the accelerator pump is because you haven’t inserted the pump rod into the hole at the back of the black plastic piece attached to the throttle shaft.

      Being that ur experienced with them maybe you'd have some insight for me. 79 xlch. I've rebuilt the carb. New fuel inlet. I tried 3 different float needles and different float settings. Once I run the bike it'll puke gas out the overflow. It's bad. I'm about to just throw an s&s or mikuni on it... Is the seat just junk? I polished the seat with a qtip and drill. Still same result. I'm told these carbs are notorious for leaking...

    Take the bowl off ...take the accelerator rod off ...hook on the rod upside down..at 12:00 ..then rotate back down to where it should be ..
    That new carb probably has an enrichener option..instead of having a choke plater..you lift a plunger and that circuit adds additional fuel to make engine run rich..once engine is running you'll shut off..push down the enrichener ..off you go..
    Your better off with a plastic fuel filter..although a glass one looks cool..all it takes is 1 stray stone ..shatter your glass housing ...your sitting on the side of the road...Hopefully not on fire ..
    Your battery is too dead..take it to autoparts store ..have battery load tested..
    Did you take your trans apart..chances are you didn't rewind your kick start spring enough ..

    Should of stuck with the keihin carb, been running one on my shovelhead for 25 years, maybe have the accelerator pump and spring in upside down. really no reason to install 2 throttle cables on that new carb, works fine with just 1. Those old Sportster are kind of fickle but once you get’m figured they run like a raped ape, 90% of carb problems are electrical, check your points and condenser, timing and valve adjustment.

    It sounds like it doesnt have enough power to crank it over. Would start with that first. You might also check the starter gear. I think i heard it slippin.

    I tried one of these on my ironhead, and it ran like shit. Im swapping it out for a cv40.

    or maybe hook the gas line to the correct spot, gas goes in at the bottom of the carb not on the top.

    Check out cv carbs. Better than stock and cheaper than s&s.

    1 float is clearly not set what jets are in it? Looks like an inline 4 cylinder with the compression. My 1340 has about 180 psi cold and its a 1984 unless you are 6'6 280 on a compression stroke you shouldn't be able to just step down and roll it over. With electric it sounds like you washed the rings out. Check the float and jets. When you hit the throttle it should look like a 4yo pissing strong and straight

    Good try but you are way over your head. Take it to an old timer who specializes in iron heads.

    Cranking it over doesn't sound right at all ! Did it ever run since you owned it ? Compression test will tell a lot, full charge battery, throttle wide open, both plugs removed. Find local Christian bike club MC or MM for help ! If want to talk contact me.

      @@JHB_Customs well from experience if you want an old Ironhead Sportster to run good and run right don't skimp out on the cheap Chinese parts, buy quality American parts. You won't be disappointed
