I really love how they’ve expanded this series. At the beginning it felt like they’d just play Yu-Gi-Oh the same way every time, taking decks from historical lists over time, but now they’re showing us how the game has grown and changed in both deck building and in the mechanics, as well as in the way the game is played! This is amazing and it really shows how the game has changed and grown over time!

@@brendanreamer4507 I'm pretty sure they've clarified that the start of Yugioh wasn't super well documented with super detailed decklists. A good portion of "competitive" was just good stuff decks and a handful of strategies that have been newly labbed due to people revisiting older formats. They could do "revisionists history of Yugioh" (and they have for a few formats) where people have found new secret sauces and better modern deck building inclusions based on what was available in the cardpool at the time.

Cimo seems to use Swords of Revealing Light as a last resort/when he’s losing. But isn’t it stronger to use it when he’s in a winning position? He kept losing monsters in the third game because he didn’t use swords and that put his board presence behind. Swords is a good offensive card because your monsters can go attack freely while your opponent’s monsters cannot retaliate.

So can you explain Shield Warrior, because it reads like it has a typo?
"During damage calculation, in either player's turn: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; monsters you control cannot be destroyed by this battle."
It says monsters, plural, cannot be destroyed by this battle. "This battle" means it's only a one time protection for a single attack. So how would it protect your other monsters that aren't the attack target? Even cards that can attack multiple times still treat each attack as a separate battle.

There were TWO crucial errors during game one that could've give Cimo the victory.
At 29:08 Ape Fighter attacked so even its attack was negated he declared an attack so his ATK boost doesn't go away.
And Also at 29:08 Shield Warrior only makes (1)! monster indestructible by battle for (1)! attack, NOT all monsters and NOT for the entire battle phase because you can only discard it during the damage calculation and it reads """Monsters you contron cannot be destroyed by THIS battle""" not THIS battle phase and it only works for that attack or "battle".

Battle Pack sealed was one of the few formats I’ve enjoyed playing. You actually play games, you don’t get locked out t1 and it was such a huge departure from constructed. And sealed rewards a different skill set than constructed. It was such a different way to play yugioh that I don’t think is appreciated by a lot of players. Thank you for this episode!

I'm honestly surprised that Yugioh tried this so late (reletively speaking) in its life cycle. Coming from MTG within the last year I guess i just assumed that there was some kind of limited equivalent in Yugioh that either never took off in the game's start or just a small but dedicated community kept doing ala progression series. it also strikes me as wierd that the packs are so small. a 30 card deck out of a 50 card sealed pool is insanely tiny coming from magic's 40 card decks from a 90+ card sealed pool but i guess thats a benefit of not having to balance around colors and mana costs.
You did mention draft which is an all time favorite format of mine as well and i think it would be a disservice to all watchers to not have some kind of draft pod with swiss play, i just got to see what i've missed in terms of Yugioh's history!

As a MTG player, magic limited formats almost always have archetypes designed into the set, especially for limited play. The problem Yu-Gi-Oh has versus MTG in a limited format I expect would be the color wheel. Magic limited formats inherently sway players away from certain colors of cards, though there is always the option to splash for a powerful off color power card, which means in sealed, you'll play your strongest and deepest color pools, and in drafts as you monitor card packs passed to you, you can get an idea of the cards/archetypes your seating neighbours are in by the colors/rarity/relative power level of cards remaining in a pack. If the person passing cards to you is drafting Green/Black for instance, you'll just notice that your card options would consist mainly of the other 3 card colors, and you'll be de-incentivized to take Green or Black cards unless a power card comes your way, at which point you could hate draft it or draft planning to splash it.
YGO draft seems much closer to cube drafting (custom draft pool), but even then due to the lack of color wheel identity/restrictions the only incentive to Draft play would be to always take the most powerful card available with very few other considerations.
