The "Halfway" VOR (FOW 111.20) has recently been completely refurbished and is perfect for training as well as several approaches, serving three airports. Couldn't be happier, as my IFR checkride is rapidly approaching. As much as I enjoy the simplicity of GPS, it's nice to know there's some ground-based alternatives.
The “android phone” username makes this post gold. But I agree, using everything at our disposal to navigate and staying proficient with all available items is paramount.

Anyways, I was taught that you can use whatever resources are available to you in the cockpit, and as such, learning them all is important to be able to actually utilize them if needed. Sounds obvious but not learning how everything works happens all the time.
Non-pilot (sim flyer only) here. Out of interest, why does VOR equipment not display the radial you're currently on as well as the deflection to the one you've dialled in? I would have thought it would be a really useful addition and great for triangulation at a glance - surely it must be possible nowadays? Is it just because older units didn't have the capability, so no one bothers making a unit that can?
