Thanks I was wondering how a rotary screw air compressor works. Very similar to a turbine engine. I’m making the jump as a gas turbine engine tech to a compressor technician.
I had a look at the biggest one they make today. It was pretty cool! I'm thinking it would get expensive fast if it ran out of oil. Do they use a torque fuse to protect engine if compressor seized during operation?
So basically you have a normal gasoline/diesel engine which drives the compressor shafts (bit like a supercharger?), which compresses the air. Am I correct? Then how about those air compressors on trains that switch on and off and make a really loud sound and vibration? Do they act the same way, or are they different? Very informative video nonetheless! I love watching these kinds of things. One day when I buy an air comp. I'll at least know how it works and appreciate it more, haha!
It's compressed air, not just blown air like your regular electric fan, haha. Compressing the air generates heat, so you gotta cool it, that's basically it
+PandaeD Not true at all, I studied fluid dynamics at University but check out Wikipedia's fluid dynamics page if you're not convinced. Water can be modeled as incompressible to simplify calculations, but in reality temperature and pressure are variables, which alters water's density; and consequently its volume.
We have a compressor that won't shut off and keeps blowing the pressure valve. We replaced the pressure valve and Sep. Element. Still keeps building pressure and blows valve. Any suggestions on what to check next?
one of the rotor gets a drive by electric motor or turbine and the other is gets driven...and pneumatic I've not heard of... as the drive will be requiring more power, I don't think pneumatics can give...
Hello! The basic idea of the separator tank (each model varies slightly) is that when the oil and air mixture enter the separator tank, the mixture is forced through through a filter which makes the heavier particles (oil) drop to the bottom of the tank and the lighter particles (air) pass through and rise to the top and then going out to the tool. The oil which has fallen to the bottom of the tank is then taken and re-purposed in the machine. I hope this helps.
I live in canada and the air goes from the compressor through an oil coalescer, then air dryer, then a niosh approved filter, then through a breathing air box and then I can breathe it.
there is another type of screw compressors which called oil free compressors (with 2 kinds, dry type or water lubricated type) you can use it for food or medical industry
Sorry but screw does not compress the air inside the screws as in the animation. It shows that Animator and director of animation understanded a bit wrong the fundamental of air screewing process. screw captures a unit of air which is equal to the volume between one step of screw face and surrounding cylinder and the other screws face. and it pushes (i mean moves not squeezes) this volume into the outlet .
All compressors do. If you squeeze 100 cubic feet of air into 10 cubic ft cylinder you also get the moisture in that 100 cu ft room squeezed into that 10 cu ft cylinder. Thats why they have a drain tap at bottom of the cylinder. That's also why scuba divers get thirsty after a dive. The moisture is pre-removed so they're breathing dry air.
the engine turns on,the intake valve opens and the air flows in. 1.is that statement true?and if it is not can someone explain the part how does the air enter the chamber in the first place?
Nice, would have been even better with oil séparation principle, really important, but this work already deserve thumb up. This would be great a similar work with séparator, knowing there are still lot of more ancient screw compressors that use outer filter, not exactly the same as enclosed one, about the few internet schematics or animation with outer séparateur it's just terrible, for this technologie nobody seems to know where oil go? schematic of air circuit are alright, showing air coming out clean, alleluia! but oil?? it has disappear as if by magic... those attempts copy past all ends to the point where internet editors can't go further, then lazy boy kick in and bet it's enough for ego and internet noobs, job done.... classic.
A saw a reel on instagram that was claiming it’s hard to understand how a compressor works. It is not hard and I thank you for this video
That was an awesome video. Someone like me needs this because I depend almost fully on visuals. Thank you for this

I never imagined the compressor process would be so complicated after all it's only air.

Treeky Galvan - we do not have a compressor that compresses to water.
It is called pump guys. PUMP! It reduces the volume of water and increases it pressure.
+Abby Rose Nepomuceno Water is incompressible. You cannot reduce its volume.

it is cmpressible
Liquid water is incompressible, only steam can be compressed

What happens in the element filter? do you have to change it regularly or does it feed back into the system?

who did your video?
does the air coming out contain oil?
I live in canada and the air goes from the compressor through an oil coalescer, then air dryer, then a niosh approved filter, then through a breathing air box and then I can breathe it.
lol but to answer your question yes

How about a compressor that compress it until it turns into a liquid. Do you have any video like that?
th-cam.com/video/m5MKC3G-KrQ/w-d-xo.html
All compressors do. If you squeeze 100 cubic feet of air into 10 cubic ft cylinder you also get the moisture in that 100 cu ft room squeezed into that 10 cu ft cylinder. doesn't compressed air also work as a torch?
the engine turns on,the intake valve opens and the air flows in.
1.is that statement true?and if it is not can someone explain the part how does the air enter the chamber in the first place?
th-cam.com/video/m5MKC3G-KrQ/w-d-xo.html
My guess is it enters naturally.
The engine and two Helix screws create the high pressure and the low pressure area behind acts like a vacuum.
Thanks
