House of the Dragon is based on Fire and Blood by George RR Martin and That translates to the History of House of House Targaryen and Westeros as a whole! But House of the Dragon won't just be about House Targaryen, There are many characters with major roles that aren't Silver headed! In Today's video I will be discussing the character Lord Cregan Stark, Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North , Lord Cregan Stark is a man apart! For a Lord of the North he is very politically savoy and He has a major part to play in the dance of dragons! It was Cregan Stark that negotiated the Pact of Ice and Fire with Rhaenyra's son Jacaerys Velayron. Of This Pact I found a secret clue that could prove important for A Song of Ice and Fire! Haha! I don't think you can include Lyanna in that, though. Women were betrothed like possessions. They couldn't do the promising. Rather, they were the promised. All she did was follow her heart and screw her Father's promise. But you certainly got me with Robb Stark. Although Catlyn was the one who said the words, Robb agreed to marry a Frey. We'll chalk it up to the Tully in him, and pretend it never happened. Too bad that didn't keep them safe at the Red Wedding.

Do Princess Rhaenys! Prince Aemon and Lady Jocelyn Baratheon's daughter. She's one of my absolute faves and such a badass, taking Meleys into war at age 55 and facing non other than Vaghar (and Sunfyre) in one of the best battles of the whole Dance. Westeros really fouled up at that council. Instead of putting Viserys on the throne, whose favouritism, inconsistency, nd indecision, led directly to war, they could have had an amazing queen in Rhaenys with the Seasnake by her side!

I love this...your closing lines remind me of seeing the Irish king's lying in state with their massive dogs curled at their feet. (Ireland was a huge exporter of dogs to the roman empire when Britain was occupied by them and many of the kings up through the middle ages are buried in stone sepulchers with their swords across their chests and a huge dog curled around their feet) in very very old areas that were not destroyed by the English reformation.
I remember reading Bran's chapter when he had those visions in Winterfell looking through the tree, I assumed it was Lyanna pregnant and the tall Knight was Rhaegar but then I knew that didn't add up so I'm glad I watched this video.

Addam Velaryion has to be at the top of the list, right? Born a bastard of nothing, becomes a dragon rider, is betrayed by his queen for the actions of others, decides to come back for that queen, rallies an army and tries to fight 3 dragons by himself, WINS that battle and dies a Heros death.

All very interesting! One issue I can think of regarding Mushroom's account of events is if Jacerys Targaryen and Sara Snow did truly marry and Cregan Stark knew of this, why would he then immediately sign a pact where Jace would promise his firstborn daughter to Cregan's heir? If we assume there was a marriage and there was a pact for Jace to send his first daughter to marry Cregan's heir, Rickon, we must conclude that either Cregan wasn't actually aware of their marriage, or that Cregan was basically promising Sara's first daughter to Rickon, or that Cregan tried to hide the marriage happening and was willing to dishonour Sara by discrediting her marriage by implying Jace would marry someone else in the pact right after being wroth about Jace dishonouring her by sleeping with her... Or there was no marriage and Mushroom was wrong leaving Jace free to marry elsewhere to honour the pact.
I hope I explained what I mean so it makes sense!

Cregan Stark is the one who most represents what it means to be a Stark.
You know who I think of when I think of Cregan Stark? Viggo Mortenson, Aragorn himself.
I have doubts about Mushroom's tale. It is implied in the histories that the Prophecy of the Prince that was Promised would only be fulfilled once a Targaryen and a Stark produced a child, and that it hadn't happened yet. This doesn't preclude the possibility, obviously, but it does pose a problem.
I am not at all sure that Cregan was wrong. I know that peace is always preferable to war. But we have to face the fact that the Greens continued to cause considerable problems after the Dance. More specifically, the Peakes. Not only was Unwin Peake to blame for both the murder of Daymon Palehair and the poisoning of Daenaera. He was probably also involved in the death of Aegon II, ruining the childhood of Aegon III, and his family caused the death of Maekor. We have to wait for Fire and Blood 2 to come out for details. Let's not forget that the Peakes were neck deep with the Blackfyres too. Maybe if Cregan had eliminated the Greens none of that would have happened.

I had suspected that pregnant woman might've been Lord Rickard's mother, and her wanting vengeance was the cause of his 'southron ambitions'. No real evidence, just an idea that makes Lord Rickard more intriguing when looking back at history. I like your theory too though😊.

@@GrayArea Thank you. My memory is a bit fuzzy on this, but in one of the books I think Lady Olenna tells Sansa she met her grandfather once and liked him (or something to that effect). It's probably nothing, but I side eyed that because Olenna dislikes almost everyone, especially men. So for her to have liked Rickard seemed important and odd. Made me question if his southron ambitions ever involved House Tyrell and we just don't know yet...

I honestly think the title Wardens of The North is more than a position for the Starks. They are connected either by magic or somehow to be the gate keepers of the horrors that exist in the North. Which is why is says a Stark must always be in Winterfell...
Interesting about Jase and Sarah. I think a compelling reason is that GRRM loves echos. Jase falls in love, breaks wedding vows, and secretly marries someone beneath his station... fast forward, Rob Stark does the EXACT same thing.

Thank you so much for this video. You have really shedded some light on the Targaryens and the Starks relationship. If the producers and HBO go down this road, as you so eloquently put it, the Game of Thrones franchise could probably go down as THE Greatest franchise on the Planet.
My only question would be, "What would the opening theme song be for House of the Dragon? Would it be the Targaryen theme song? Or would they continue with the regular Game of Thrones opening theme song?"
The reason why I ask that is because that opening Theme song is so Iconic it's not funny. It would be a waste if they could not use that theme song as the intro to House of the Dragon.
Also, I believe HBO will continue using the Maps in the intro. However, it's the opening theme song I am worried about.

I just wanted to add to WHY people love Stannis lol, he has HONOR and reminded viewers of EDDARD and how HE wanted Stannis to rule, that's the first reason, he is honorable and does what he THINKS he has to do, he unfortunately follows the wrong faith blindly and he takes things too far and pays for it with a tremendous loss, but still he was a man of duty and rules, I think minus Melisandre he would have made a great king!

I do wonder if he could have been good w/o Melisandre but given how far he went I have my doubts personally. I'm glad others liked him though, & he definitely inspired loyalty in Davos & others.

The thing I never liked about the eggs at winterfell is how would a huge dragon get in there?
The Dragon doesn’t get inside Winterfell. It’s placed there as “useless” where it soon hatches there and sleeps for decades until it doesn’t. Remember that Winterfell is build on top of hot springs which is the equivalent to volcanic activity beneath it. We know that dragons on Dragonstone hatched by themselves so maybe this dragon egg hatched too because of the heat (where’ve Vermax laid his eggs). Also in the book of A World of Ice and fire, the map contains the three headed dragon of house Targaryen and one other massive dragon on the complete opposite side of the 3 Dragons. Remember that the older a dragon is, the larger it is. When Ramsay burned down Winterfell in Clash, the stones began to fall and crumble. Bran saw a “winged snake” breathing fire while he was warging through Summer. He saw it rise from the stones/flames of the broken Castle. He also saw this same “winged snake” who was breathing fire fly farther North behind the mountains. In the show, they turned Visserion into a wight dragon, but maybe this mysterious dragon of Winterfell might fall into the hands of the Other’s king (Night’s King), who I think is 100% a Stark. It would only be fitting if A Stark rides this mysterious dragon of Winterfell, using it to tear down the wall perhaps??

Can we have a video on Larys Strong please? I always struggle to figure out his allegiance. Did he murder his family to become lord of Harrenhal? Also, I always thought he could have been the traitor on the green council that Daemon refers to knowing, but most of his actions during the war show him to be a green loyalist... but was that his intention? He seemed to oppose Rhaenyra when she occupied King's Landing and saved Aegon II, but it also seems he was loyal to Lord Corlys Velaryon, saved his life and then conspired to assassinate Aegon II with him possibly. So what was his goal and who did he truly serve? I've read some say he was playing both sides to come out on top, only truly serving himself but the fact he died rather than take the black is confusing if that was true. He's very much the Varys of the Dance so who knows what he's really up to!

So far we have a target release date of 2022. Maybe at the end of this year
it all sounds good,but HBO will leave us wondering why at the end of the series. GOT could have been a lot longer of a series but they rushed it from day one. changing things because they knew they didn't want it to be over 8 seasons. with how many fans it had it could have had more episodes and seasons and still been a hit, but they wanted to ruin it and leave us hanging like all their other series.
Ok, ok, ok. Let me watch this 14 more times, watch Joe and them's videos 14 times, read Fire and Blood 28 more times. Then I'll let you know what I think. 😂
I think hiding Targaryen in the North was strategic power grab. The dragons wouldn’t fly north of the wall. However dragons adapt to where they hatch. So I believe the Targaryens wanted a dragon rider offspring in the North in hopes of getting eggs to hatch in the north so they could have dragons who could withstand the cold and the environment.
I honestly think Lord Cregan Stark was spoiling for a fight 🤣. He was kinda pissed that he got there too late and the vultures were already devouring what was left of the kingdoms. It really disturbed his strong sense of justice. Lord Cegan Stark probably thought, "Like nobody is going to pay for all this carnage, ha! ha! The king is dead and you're all already focused on what you can get out of it? By the old gods, someone will pay before I leave!" Perhaps he should have done what he intended like, Tywin Lannister did with the Reynes. The babies did grow up to lay foundations for more civil wars in future.
I like the parallels between Cregan's protectiveness of Aegon 3, and Ned's protectiveness of the Tygariaen children. Which makes their fall out in the show's Season 8 all the more tragic. I hope GRRM wasn't planting these seeds in vain.

According to the book Jahaeryss had a choice but Otto Hightower called for a great council in spite of this.
Jahaerys wanted a strong successor but Otto Hightower wanted the pushover Vicerys to reign. The book doesn't outright state that but you can deduce this by reading between the lines.
