I'm with Peachy on rules. I can play a perfectly good game using the rulebook I already have. No need for a new one, unless I just really hate something in the current book. Wishing everyone well!
Kill Team has done an excellent job with terrain rules. An enemy can sometimes be seen, but not shot at due to intervening terrain. Its a great representation of being able to see/know an enemy is there, but being unable to bring effective fire onto them. (very realistic)
I met Mikey at Sanctuary Games, great chap and always ready for a laugh. These chats are great to listen to while painting, really chill and loads of fun.
Great chat - some fun stuff there on evolving meta and the like! I am always intrigued by people trying to get terrain rules right, especially for a game like 40K which has so much futuristic tech.
On the topic of FAQ/Updates/Ringbinders. One thing I haven't really seen from any/many companies is the model Kingdom Death went with. They released an upgrade card pack, first to previous backers for $5 + shipping, which included all upgrade cards from the 1.5 -> 1.6 edition. *AND* They included stickers to go over sections in the rulebook to replace it with the new balance rules. I'd MUCH prefer this for LOTR/40K as I could have a "final" version of the rulebook at the end of an edition which as said here, is the 'most balanced' time for the Edition. And lets be real, they should really update the Digital Versions to have the amended rules, you shouldn't need a digital copy, *AND* a balance dataslate.
Just finished this, I adore this podcast and great to have Mikey on! Love all the work you guys all do, keep it up and can’t wait for the next one! Would love to see mikey’s chess clock enemy (Arbitorian) on a future episode as you guys just nostalgia gush about classic warhammer
I love watching your videos. You're all just so funny and charming, and good-natured. Truly, some of the best hobby videos on the Internet. P.S. 5th Edition Fantasy Battle is my favorite edition, too.
The long discussion about line of sight, indirect fire, and so forth has highlighted for me another thing I like about Stargrunt: the units *do* talk to each other and there are clear rules for how they share information. Especially for something like mortars or off-board artillery, where a specific unit has spent their action to call for indirect fire and the line-of-sight penalties are calculated from the unit calling in the strike, not the unit firing it. (This setup also allows for things like FOOs to work very well.)
I fully understand what Geoff (Jeff?) is saying. I'd love to have an army of renown that is Alpha Legion and their convert guard/cultist operatives. But it'll never happen cause it's too hard to pull of in game
I think Jeff needs to have a crack of Team Yankee/Flames of War. The artillery spotting has a modifier for if there is terrain near the target, as it makes it harder for the observer to range the guns in...
For terrain, I think Legion does it best. 30% of the board space in total coverage and there should be no clear lines of site from one setup zone to the other.
The main “issue” I have with hearing too much negativity is that it is kind of taxing. Not that criticism is a bad thing, but I do want some laughs and stories when I sit down to paint and watch, not just negativity and some channels really lean into that.
Also I do wish that some other game would come in and be the best selling miniatures game for a bit like X-Wing once was, not only because then maybe not everyone had to do 40k videos to make a living, but maybe some competition would lead to better products all around. A bit like WotC and D&D, they have 80% of the market and not even their latest blunder seemed to change that, and you can see on some of their products that they’re not even trying.
Oh, and thanks for a great episode as always, I’d pay good money to see you guys take your Cursed City models through Rangers of Shadow Deep but in the current economy my “good” money won’t even get you a fistful of eggs. Looking forward to Necromunda.
The less we talk about formation boxset rules, the better... they were so broken - especially the 'Ultimate Storm' rule from the 'Strike Force Ultima' boxset lol
Good show. Interesting to see terrain rules described as bandaid for the models - when I see the terrain rules and need of blocking line of sight so much are a band aid for the trhreat ranges, i go you go etc. that are the core mechanics of the game
As a northerner now living in Bristol on my way home to Teesside one Xmas. I decided to run an experiment to see where the north starts, according to motorway signs. 1:21:53 ah so Tyranids have a C3 network like in battletech. It's funny you mention all these rules about terrain. Battletech does a good job of modelling a lot of them already.

Another great pod cast. With regards to play what you want ; I totally agree, if you’re not playing tournaments, just play from the current rule book as is. The problem, for me, is that GW appear to focus, far to much, on the competitive side of the game? Which makes casual gamers feel as the need to be playing the current tournament focused version, especially true of new players just getting into the game. This must be putting off a lot of newer players, due to the hard barrier to entry into the rule set? Here’s hoping 10th fixes this to some extent. 🤞🏻

You mention the "white plastic". I own some of the original white plastic Orcs (yes Orcs not Orks). Also Goblins. If I sent one over how about a painting "challenge" for Peachy , given the lack of detail on the model itself :)
I agree with you completely peachy, one doesn't have to play the newest edition. I've stopped at 7th and still enjoy the game immensely. Not to mention I can't wrap my head around all this new ideas no blast templates no flamer templates no armor values. Quite frankly it just hurts my brain.
i'm a new listener and I'm currently catching up on episodes so i don't know if this has been asked yet. Are you boys going to have a franchise of Hive Guys: "Grox" burger and fries in your necromunda games?
In regards to the bottomless tank. I know you guys take this with a sense of humor and maybe people are getting too worked up about it. But I as a customer of GW who is paying $90 US plus but you’re giving me this model that seems incomplete. I think if this was a $40 model with a big hole in the bottom people wimpy is excited.

But if we pitch it right etc then yep I’m all in, I’m super serious about doing the Shatterpoint boxset, which I turn could benefit Legion players
Everyone else hear Jeff heavy breathing towards the end. Noice
another good episode
You mention the "white plastic". I own some of the original white plastic Orcs (yes Orcs not Orks). Also Goblins. If I sent one over how about a painting "challenge" for Peachy , given the lack of detail on the model itself :)
I agree with you completely peachy, one doesn't have to play the newest edition. I've stopped at 7th and still enjoy the game immensely. Not to mention I can't wrap my head around all this new ideas no blast templates no flamer templates no armor values. Quite frankly it just hurts my brain.
Great discussion. Laughed out when Peachy blurted communist
Oh yeah I’d forgotten about that slip 🤦♂️😂
i'm a new listener and I'm currently catching up on episodes so i don't know if this has been asked yet. Are you boys going to have a franchise of Hive Guys: "Grox" burger and fries in your necromunda games?

Star Wars legion is very underrated, probably my favorite game at the moment
Yes! I haven’t watched this yet, I’m “working” but Mikey’s a solid guest to have on
I am solid. Dead hard
Nice
Why arent they talking about paint??? 😉
Cheeky!
I feel your warcry cards pain Peachy, I had them all for my nephew. So sad
Although the balancing changes are good... so I'm torn
Yeah I had just got the last set…..then bam….new card 😭😭😭
Great game still though
Great show as always!
Just curious - did Patrick grow REALLY tall? Everyone is looking up. :D
I'm still due a growth spurt unfortunately. Essentially the room is tiny and I don't have enough small chairs, I'm stood up most of the time.
@@thepaintingphase Gotcha! Hopefully continued success will allow for a massive studio upgrade. :D
Give my regards to all there.
And that is a very valid point ☝️
