    Take a CAT 2 hitch pin and put it on your drawbar of the power traction hitch. Then you don't even have to get off. Back up, lift the pin through the hole, lift the implement and move. Great for moving implements so you can mow.

      That is a great idea! It does go low enough that it would work great. We did that with the forklift at the shop and it never crossed my mind to do that with this. I love the PTH. I would definitely own another one.

      Make that a CAT 1 pin, that's what I use.

      @@ThatOliverGuyChris Im thinking that’s what we used at the shop, we had a hole in the end of the forklift fork. It worked good but there was a lot more slop in the forks than with this hitch, if you’re trying to make turns. I think that hitch on your 66 Diesel would be equally as handy. You could get that little tractor in some tighter places than this one. I haven’t ever run across a setup like that around here.

      It was the longest running of the ones they made I believe. It lasted long after the green ones as an industrial tractor

    Thanks for the overview on the power traction hitch, I have an 880 with one. The engine is torn apart and several parts of the hitch are bad.

      I have a second tractor that has the power traction hitch now, and I need a part for it but it’s otherwise complete. I really love those hitches they’re very handy.

    Those style of claws for the lower links are the same thing that most quick hitches use today too. Pretty cool that Oliver is the one who came out with it first.

      Yup. People think it’s a new idea but it’s been around for 50+ years!

    While ford-ferguson wanted their share for legal copies or to build compatible implements, it seems the licensing fee was reasonable. I read JD wanted the fast hitch, but IH wanted a huge amount in profits for the rights or refused to even entertain the discussion with deere. JD's rockshaft was marketing's putting the cart before the horse, but could easily adapt to whatever post-production attachment released in outcome of a hitch agreement or new engineering the corporate officers approved.

      It would’ve been interesting to see what would’ve happened if Deere had been allowed to have the fast hitch. People would’ve probably flocked to it and it would be more popular than the three-point 🤣

    Funny how you notice little things when you’re a tractor nut…when I saw the fuel line routing on your grandfather’s tractor I knew it was a NAA…very cool you’ve kept it and still using it 👍

    I had an 880 for years, very handy tractor to have. Only one problem with the traction hitch. If you tighten up the sway chains too tight and forget about it. The cylinders have enough power to rip the casting right out from underneath it. Tough lesson to learn. Love having the down pressure

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that’s unfortunate. Good castings are getting hard to find. And Yes, I also love the down pressure! That’s very handy in a lot of situations.

    I'd like to Rube Goldberg a hitch system of adapters and off color parts sometime, but in a production appearing way. Perhaps a WD Allis with a fast hitch hoop and 3point adapter tongs! The pieces in the Power Traction hitch might be good inspiration for a creation under a Farmall 400 as well. Nothing like mix n match 😄

    I have 2 different fleetline olivers with 3point a 1952 66 that was a family tractor it is a early style 3point with the cylinder laying on top of the axel and it used a normal top link i wonder if they payed ford to use that system? The other is a 52 but I don't know the history its 3 point is slightly more modern but still lays the cylinder on top of the axel

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a 77 for a short time that had that style hitch on it as well. I ended up trading it non running to a guy for my 88. I would assume that all the companies that used a similar style probably had to pay or go to court, but I suppose one valid difference they could argue is that these were not really draft controlled hitches like the Ford system.

    The super 55 is a Cadillac compared to a to a Chevy that is the 8N there both good tractors that fill the same roll IE small utility row-crop tractors but one is just a better riding tractor and a more comfortable tractor with a few for features I’d take the Oliver any day over the 8N I say that as a red man I’ve used both to super 55 diesel is the coolest little tractor ever and the 8N is well a 8N boring

    I worked for a man who had a Ford 800 that tractor had good power hands down the worst hydraulics I've ever saw wouldn't stay in place up and down all the time

      Hydraulics have definitely come along way. Some of those older three point systems were crazy.

    Good video. Is there position control available with either style hitch for a 770/880? It looks like the hitch is raised and lowered with just an up/down lever like remote cylinders... so no position control? Is there a cylinder stop on the lift cylinder to set the drop position, or how does that work?

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! It’s not draft controlled. It is just a regular hydraulic cylinder that goes wherever you put it.. With the hydroelectric system that Oliver had, you can change the position of the stop collar and it will go down to a preset depth but you still have to do it manually.

    • @TonyM132
      @TonyM132 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rosstheoliverman Thank you for the reply. Ya, I get that there is no draft control. That wasn't a big thing yet in the late 1950's I guess, although Deere had it by then, and IH sort of had it...
      Anyway I was asking only about position control. If I understand you correctly, sounds like there is no position control lever on 770/880, but you can set a lower stop for the hitch similar to how it is done with remote cylinders. If that's right, then that is a major disadvantage from the Farmall Fast Hitch. I don't think Super C had position control, but everything else with Fast Hitch did from the 300-400 in 1954 and on. Deere first got it in 1956 with the 620-720. I am surprised Oliver was so late to the game with that feature. Did the 1600 & 1800 finally have a hitch position control lever in 1962?

  • @henryofskalitz2228
    @henryofskalitz2228 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I still think that the farmall fast hitch is better you don't even have to get off the tractor to put an implement on that's fast hitch and do barely anything for draw bar equipment.

    • @henryofskalitz2228
      @henryofskalitz2228 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Plus the TA on the farmalls can't be beat

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fast hitch has its advantages I’m sure, but it lost out to the 3pt hitch as industry standard. The Power Traction Hitch can hook up to 3pt tools but doesn’t have any draft control. I disagree with you on the TA. Lots of farmalls you see for sale say TA Out” in the ad. The Powerbooster wasn’t much better but the later 2 speed HydraPower and 3 speed Hydraul Shift were the best. You could run them in any range, all day long.
