Amazing video . I enjoyed every second . The way you articulate the particulars of the brands is on another level . Very thorough and direct .
Glad you enjoyed it!
Was looking forward to this after work. Thanks for the video
Hope you enjoyed it!
Awesome video Robert, it was a pleasure to watch from beginning to end😊
Great content Robert. I appreciate your personal take on the Brands. 👌
A very well done video on what brands I was curious about this year! 👏🏻
Thanks! Can't wait to work on your next pair 😉
@@thespectaclefactory yes looking forward to do business with you again!
Premiering the video, it's almost like Robert knows the kind of content we've all been waiting for.
🙏
Thank you for the wonderful content as always.
My pleasure!
Excellent video. This breakdown is fantastic
Glad you liked it!
Top notch presentation. Your reviews are the best 😎Well worth the wait 👍
Thank you Robert! Hope you enjoyed 😁
Very subjective review with lots of personal emotions and not much objective facts.
very good and unbiased work. I have 7-8 brands here, and this commentary really covers my opinion on what I have experienced from these brands. thank you.
Glad you agree! I appreciate it
Hey Rob. Top video as always. Question. Although you don't sell them, where would you place Black EyeWare on your list?
Super fantastic and informative! My city definitely needs someone as skilled and well informed as you.
M. P.
Temecula, CA
Love your videos. It's helped me up my sunglasses arsenal, but only a few purchases really work on my big head.
Great to hear!
I got the Barton Perreira Domino in green and also a pair of reykjavik eyes (Elias), thanks to your recommendations. Both are awesome!
I got the Barton Perreira 007
Thanks for the info, you have done great job as always. I own a pair of gast mente and there are incredible. Have you ever heard of lohause? Do they worth it?
Nice to see I own glasses that feature in each of the ultimate / amazing & would buy categories! When are you planning to do another "rate my glasses" video? It would be good to see if my choices get your seal of approval! :)
Hi, great videos that I’ve stumbled across. What are your opinions on DF Weber eyewear?
Hello amazing video, thank you ! What's your take on Vuarnet ?
Many thanks for all the useful and insightful information, Robert, much enjoyed the video. I’m curious how you would rate brands like VonBogen and Prodesign Denmark. Also curious about your assessment of brands that carry options for petite female faces (my situation), like ColibriS, Nifties. Your recommendations for brands offering frames for such faces (47-50mm lens width, 14-17mm bridge) would be much appreciated. Whenever I enter an optical shop, I feel like it’s a store intended for greyhounds and I’m a whippet : ). One of the last frames that actually looked good and fit I had to rule out because the arm was inscribed in big, bold letters: “playmobil”.
Thank you so much for the video. Recently Gentle Monster is super hyped, what do you think about them?
Great video, any chance for something similar but only with brands that prepare frames for high prescription glasses?
I have been watching your videos and have learned more about glasses than I could have imagined. My present frames are Dutz and I would be interested in your overall opinion concerning them..........Thanks!
Brilliant! Well done, cheers
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great Video Rob.... I think you need to put Porsche Design into the Amazing tier! I went to the DE RIGO factory yesterday and it blew me away.. Some incredible product coming down the line. 😄
Hi what do you recommend for varifocals rimless or with the frame please thank you
Thank you for this Rob! Im late to the party but glad I found someone who speaks his mind.
Where Smith Optics would be on this list?
I know they are in Safilo Group nowadays but I have seen good reviews on the net.
I like Smith! They are pretty good 👍
Great review. Thank you for putting this together. Next year could you touch on Mr. Leight? I'd personally put them next to EyeVan / Masunaga / Matsuda.
Their frames are all too small and too delicate for the price. Garrett himself admits the brand hasn't really taken off on his podcast. Quality is excellent though as is Garrett leight.
Love the content. Been watching your vids over and over. I have Silhouette frameless. Does can I buy the Flair frames and have my lense shape from my Silhouette's put on the Fkair frames by any optician or will Flair do this ?
Hey! Thank you so much. Yes, we'd love to make you a pair of Flair glasses with a custom shape. Just write to us on hello@thespectaclefactory.com
I am new to glasses, 3 years on (started needing them in my 30s due to Keratoconus) only recently found your channel. Really love it. Thought i was doing pretty good with my rayban brow line and aviator glasses, only to find out Luxotica owns numerous brands and its basicslly the bottom of the barrel.
All that to say, it seems like most of the brands that allow you to use insurance benefits in the US are owned by luxotica.
Does your shop work with insurance providers in the UK? Just curious. Stay blessed fam.
Great video. Thanks. What glaases are you wearing? Yours looks the best among all glasses.
Thanks! I reviewed them here: th-cam.com/video/RCDvlzeua0M/w-d-xo.html
They are available to order: just email me via rob@thespectaclefactory.com
I was wondering do you offer sandblasting services for glasses. Like for instance if I wanted to get a pair that was black sandblasted to look matte is that a possibility?
Do you have an opinion on Lafont glasses from Paris? I have a very high index and I just got some acetate frames from them. After watching your videos I hope that these are good quality.
Luca's work resonates most with me ❤
Hi Robert, love your videos. Just got myself Randolph aviator and Sun Buddies. Wanted to ask if you can make a video on budget sunglasses between $100-250 dollars like you did with the Gast one. Thank you.
Great suggestion!
What's your take on Mykita's acetate line? Thinking about a pair, but seems like most of the focus/praise for the brand is on the more minimal metal frames. Just discovered your channel shopping for new specs, loving the videos. Cheers!
Mykita titanium is not adjustable so a complete waste of money
I was waiting on this for a while😁 I'm glad etnia barcelona was here as I brought a sunglass that my dad stole 🤣 and I wasn't aware of gotti being their own brand as a year ago i was in zurich in their store but I saw other brands like Lindberg and cartier
Can you please talk about - "Eschenbach eyewear" : I recently purchased a pair of mini eyewear (mini-cooper) sunglasses and the acetate quality is fairly good. Would love to know your take on it and about the authenticity of its "German make". Thank you - I recently came across your videos and they are the best!
Got a pair of Serengeti sunglasses today. They are photochromic and polarized. Frosty/shiny crystal (clear) frames. Look amazing! ☺️
Watching this video through my broken Silhouette glasses lol

Same here!
I’ve had my silhouettes for over 3 years now. I’ve dropped them so many times and they’re still going strong. Mine are not rimless tho.
I can’t believe Cutler and Gross didn’t make this list. Some of the best designed acetate frames imo
Facts. I have a pair and another on order. I first heard about C&G through James Wood on Twitter.
Hello, first of all - great inspiration during on my journey to find new glasses for myself 😊
What's your opinion/ experience with the french brand/ manufacturer BAARS? thanks for answering in advance...
greetings for Germany
What do you think of Epos Milano? I find them similar to anglo american (in price and style) but with a better feeling acetate.
Sir, do u recommend surgery or lenses for prescription with -6 n above?
AMAZING video THANKS & RESPECT ... What about Alain Mikli , Titanflex , Police , Desquared , Jaguar , BOSS , Carreara , Hackett , Gant ... ?
What’re your thoughts on Rigards? I love their work with different materials.
What are your thoughts on Tom Davies glasses? Never seen you mention them.
Do you know the brand Leisure Society? Would love to hear about your opinion on them!
"Matsuda eyewear was reintroduced in 2012 by CEO James Kisgen, who was previously the director of sales at Cartier" This shows that a prior Cartier executive puts trust in Matsuda. This, alongside their robust build quality and some iconic styles (especially on the sunglasses part ) , should push them in the Ultimate tier, IMO.
Right. I have the 10605H Sunglasses and they‘re crazy.
I never see them in the wild.
Along with JMM my favourite brand.
matsuda is the only designer that really catches my eye. every other frame i like seems like a one hit wonder
ps: though i would buy a pair of cartiers if i could have everything i want
I had vintage NOS 2868 and NOS 2805 optical frames. I break glasses too much. I had some clear acetate oakley pitchmans and those are garbage durability but they look good. now I have Matsuda 1024 in clear and they are pretty great. i guess the clear frames are remaining in style (for good reason IMO) and the panto style is coming right in.
Reykjavek has rimless glasses now. I havent found a reseller in germany yet. Are they any good in comparison?
What are your thoughts on the Akini Cassini? Im feeelin them.. but theyre pretty steep. Any thoughts or opinions from anyone would be awesome.
Great video! I just bought a pair of Kaleos, a Spanish brand. Really cool. You should check them out, I’m curious to know your thoughts. Cheers.
Amazing video. I was looking for reykjavik eyes frame in Germany but they don't sell it here
That's OK, we have lots of German customers who order frames like RE from us.
Where would you put the LVMH Thelios frames? I find Dior and Fendi frames to be rather nice quality.
Also what are your thoughts on Thelios’s Fred eyewear?
Also what about Kering’s Lindberg?
I also feel that Gucci Made in Japan is a tier of its own.
Thank you so much for your content!
I think that putting Dita in overrated is really a shame. I own Dita Buckeye glasses (black with yellow Gold). I think they are the perfect combination of being Classic and having that little extra with the yellow Gold Details. If you or someone else has a better alternative im more than glad to hear them. Love your videos!
I own ash+, but overrated means for me lack of quality. But i heard a glass needs 8 months to finish with 320 processes. Thats where my question is. Which brand needs more time and has more processes to get the best? Dita say they are using high quality materials, but is for example barton perreira more higher quality?
Nah, they are overrated. Too busy chasing that marvel money.
I own one pair of oliver peoples. Its the brunello cucinelli oliver sun. Your disclaimer that the brunello line is pretty great kinda made my day 😂
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Robert, would you tell me your thoughts about a Swedish eyewear brand called CHIMI ?
Cutler and Gross, Oliver Goldsmith, Thierry Lasry,Francois Pinton, any thoughts?
Cutler and Gross - copying jmm, Oliver Goldsmith - confusing split with the two versions of the brand. The family need to get a grip and sort it out. Thierry Lasry - well made but terrible branding. Don't know the other one.
I've gotti glasses since almost 7 years. That's amazing brand with phenomenal quality. Even now, design is still fresh. I love it!
Nice choice!
I’m wondering if you can shed some light on matsuda’s new antique gold process. I bought a pair of the 10103h’s recently that seem very dark, with some hints of ‘antique gold’ here and there- very different than any photos on their site. A lot of others I’ve seen have received the same thing. It seems like they’re either using a blackening agent but I’m not sure at all
I own several pairs of opticals and sunglasses from Jacques Marie Mage, Matsuda, Cartier, Cutler & Gross, Barton Perreira, JF Rey, Factory 900, Dita, Gucci, Persol and RayBan.
I’d definitely rank JMM, Factory 900 and Matsuda as god tier.
Cartier, Cutler and Gross and Barton Perreira are pope tier.
Dita, JF Rey, Gucci and maybe Persol are Bishop tier.
RayBan is serf tier.
not the serfdom lol for the nobility i would put porsche design ( i am a fanboy of theirs), etnia barcelona and cazal
@@brayanaguilar2066 I have a few products from Porsche Design (no eyewear unfortunately) and I consider them to be up there in terms of design and quality!
No experience with Cazal but I agree with you and Robert about them having their place in terms of design and originality.
Which GAST frame was that? I like those a lot and am let looking for a black frame.
Hello Robert, first of all - great inspiration on my journey to get my next pair of glasses! What is your take on the french brand 'BAARS'? Have a great day! greetings from Germany
Thank you! And sorry, but I don't have enough experience with them
Any idea how about Gentle Monster?
What would be your thoughts on the Gold & Wood and Maybach Frames design?
Great video Robert ! Is just not fair to see Ahlem in Amazing and not ultimate because is a recent brand...😅😢
Fair enough, but you have to give brands time to establish longevity. For example, Akoni probably should be higher but you have to wait and see how they pan out
Did you mess up with Götti when you said it was a scandinavian design, maybe confusing it with Sweden? :)
Also, after last video I bought myself seven pair of JMM that fits different parts of my life. They draw attention in a good way if you pair them with the right outfit etc. but God knows they are NOT the most comfortable ones to own :D
Edit: sorry, I meant to write scandinavian! But after watching this video I have to buy me a park of Barton Perreira Domino in the matte midnight you spoke of in another video. Great list and good info
I don't think I said 'nordic'? Maybe my accent 😅
Chrome hearts I know use Sterling Silver. True Vintage Revival also just released a rimless collection that utilize Sterling Silver frames.
What, no Oakley? Sorry, just noticed your list doesn't show poor😱😂 Great video as usual, very interesting. I love my Reykjavik Eyes.
Hi Robert, what’s your opinion on OVVO OPTICAL eye glasses, your prompt response will be appreciated, and thanks for your TH-cam show.
Sincerely, Michael.
I think they are pretty good!
What model of JF Rey eyeglasses is Robert wearing?
I think he said they were from the carbon/wood series if that helps, not sure of the model though ☺️
Did you mention cubitts? If not how would you rank them?
What will you say about Delirious glasses?
My glasses peak at amazing… maybe I need to go shopping! 🤓
Collecting glasses never ends 😅
Hi Robert, how are MontBlanc sunglasses. In Which tier would you categorize ?
Thanks
Raghu
Zeiss lenses, pretty good but not amazing imo
Missed out on mentioning Cutler and Gross! Discovered them last year actually through your last tier vid and have been very impressed. As i mentioned in chat thier recent collab with A Great Frog has them putting out stuff rivalling that of Chrome Hearts. Still amazing or nay?
My bad! Last time I missed off loads of brands, and this time I spent ages making sure I was covering everything - still missed C&G. I would put them in 'Would Buy'.
I think Cutler and Gross are just trying to be JMM at this point. The great fog collection is overpriced as the quality and finish is on par with Ahlem.
@@pato10111would you say Ahlem is good quality / worth the price? thx
@@BingChilling987it's made in France and the quality is good but it's very handmade and some of the finishing would be a tad rough as the French factories use very basic machines. It will degrade over time but still hold together if that makes sense.
@@pato10111 with the sterling silver I figured it was more of a Chrome Hearts crowd they were going after. Which is good in a way, I feel that silver/gold detailing on acetate frames is way underutilised across the board. More brands should be experimenting with it. Matsuda has been doing it quite tastefully with some of their recent releases.
Wow, so educational! YOu've outdone yourself Robert & gone beyond your typical 10 brands -- this is a keeper and I will have to watch it again & scout out next year's buy from the list (sad to hear about Barton Pereira...:(
Thank you so much!
I wanted rimless Cartier glasses ever since I was a kid. Love my collection.
I put in a deposit on a pair of Silhouettes TMA Icon rimless glasses that were 30% off the retail price. Is it still a good buy? I couldn't find any other rimless glasses that had aviator shaped lenses, except maybe Montblanc but the temples were not like the Silhouettes.
Yes
For the last 10 years I’ve worn the Cornell model made by this (to me) total under the radar luxury brand Leisure Society. Made in Japan, engraved titanium frame. Buffalo. horn. Many of their styles hav a retro bubble😊ÿ
@thespectaclefactory what do you feel about Tom Ford glasses?
Check my other tier list video!
Where does Revo fit in? I don't know if one of these brands makes their lenses..
I know this is still not super well known yet, but I'd love to hear your opinion on Masahiro Maruyama!
I love the design philosophy of the brand, and I personally think the quality is great; I initially fell in love with their Broken collection, however upon not being able to find a model that fits my fat head, I have a frame from the Erase collection.
I might be biased as I own multiple pairs of LINDBERG frames, but I think the joy of the brand is the customizability aspect of it, and I don't necessarily feel it deserves the bad rep it gets sometimes, more than often due to poor glazing by inexperienced opticians.
JMM I have a pair from them, and quality and design of it is amazing, however, they are known for one negative thing; the condensation that gets into the temples between the acetate and the metal that goes through it. Its not necessarily limited to JMM (I've seen it on similar temple designed frames like the men's Face a Face, etc), but I do wish they fix the issue, or the opticians should recommend buyers to apply a bit of nail polish around that gap to prevent condensation getting through.
Cartiers, again, amazing quality, but if you feel Face A Face's customer service and aftercare is quite poor, I feel Cartier's afterservice has unfortunately dropped compared to when they were owned by Richemont. And quality is definitely nowhere near compared to their vintage models; I have an early build Tank L.C., they're give or take 35yrs old and its still going strong!
I'd love to see more reviews of weird quirky brands!
Hi, what you think about Jensen eyewear?
Very basic.
What do you think about gentle monster?
Reykjavik eyes colour can peel off too in my exp using this brand.. one of the best acetate in the world is from Masunaga.. japanese zylonite or celluloid (rare material).. or in europe,Mazzucchelli in which, they also supplies to most eyewear brand manufacturers.. so most likely, the qualities are about the same
I'd agree but the use of acetate is very minimal with Masunaga, I think Eyevan and Matsuda do it better. Even more so are the dozens of Sabae based minor brands that never usually get a mention like Boston Club and 999.9
@@usagitube Any brand using Japanese acetate + manufacturing is stand out quality wise. Nothing from europe is quite on par. It is a little more hit or miss when the company is american instead of japanese though, imo, because you get stuff like barton perreira which is extremely restrained and a little boring for the price and level of detailing and finishing isn't as notable as the japanese or something like JMM where the price keeps going up making it a questionable value.
In which category would “Peter and May” go in ? Peter and May is a boutique brand based in Pairs, France.
After I analyzed and observed your ultimate list, I became interested in buying Reykjavík Eyes or JFRey. Maybe next year because this year already bought a McLaren. Thank you, before sharing an honest and independent review, Robert.👍
Would love to help when the time comes!
same here! i like JFRey as well! they are looking nice and fit on me.. Hopefully i can buy it soon..
You should check out Massada is polish/ swiss brand 😊
Barton Perreira is top notch! I got the Cutrone sunglasses amazing
Chrome Hearts is crazy, Im wearing a brown glasses named Crypdic, new release in 2023. Everything is so nice about it
Nice!
Is it walnut colorway ?
I'm curious on what brands Robert considers above JMM quality, because I'd like to look at their stuff and see if it's my taste.
Masunaga, Matsuda I think are slightly higher, but it's very close.
@@thespectaclefactoryThank you for taking the time out of your day to read and respond to my comment! I appreciate it! I’ll have a look!
Robert - What about Morel as a brand, particularly the Lightec collection?
I'm a fan - great value
@@thespectaclefactory Any recommendation for Transitions Xtractive color on a blue semi-rimless frame? Thoughts on also adding a light blue tint to the Transitions lens? What is the impact on the photochromic properties if doing a tint?
Where would you rank L.G.R and why? My wife just got a pair.
Great video as always but where's Cutler and Gross?
Forgot them this time
My list based on personal experience. Ultimate: Effector, Kame Man Nen, Kaneko. Amazing: Lindberg, ic Berlin. Would Buy: Oliver Peoples, L.A. Eyeworks, Spivvy. Overrated: Ray Ban. As you can see I am a Japanese frame fanboy - OG and nerdy.
Is Cazal bad quality? Where would you rank them compared to JMM for example?
They are nowhere near, to be fair. They aren't bad at all, but it's all about the styling with Cazal, which is truly unique.
what are you thinking about L.G.R i got a pair and i am in love. Wanna hear your thought ?
Really cool brand, great quality. Nice choice!
Fantastic teir list and details of each manufactor!! Really enjoyed this list!
I may disagree with a couple of your choices. 😹 But just a opinion and worked maybe more with thingg?
Could you do one of these with lens manufactors and providers?
Thanks for a very high teir... ranked ulitimate video. Litterally the best content on the internet... yet again my opinion. X 😹🫶
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
We've actually already made a video on lens Manufacturers, here's the link below...
