It's so satisfying filling up sketchbooks. So many memories!

I do a thought of the day sketchbook. This helps motivate me to draw every day and it's fun to go back and see what little things inspired me. It's a small sketchbook, about 4 x 6 inches, so it only takes 10 to 30 minutes to complete a painting. It's really motivating to see how I've improved over time.

I may not remember the photographs of places I have visited but, I do remember vividly, with great detail every I had ever sketched. I remember the warmth of the sun the cold of the winter, the sounds and the scent of the soil, plants, flowers around me during that time. I can remember as far back as sketches from early my childhood that I have kept, which was over 55 years ago!

A good quality sketch book is awesome, but a cheap on is invaluable..... I find when I have a cheap sketchbook I'm more free to just TRY. I'm not worried about messing up or wasting money, etc. I found these pocket sized sketchbooks at the dolor store for $2 with paper that even using a brush pen dont bleed to the other side and I can even do light watercolor in it. I end up grabbing one of those more offen than one of the many high end sketchbooks I have.

I really agree with you. I think as an artist we should have more freedom to explore our style and practice. Not worth to buy such exp sketch books and cannot experiment with anything. haha.

I use mine for every idea I have, whether it’s character design, story boarding, working with wet and dry media, and drills to increase my skills. I usually have three in play at a time!

I doodle at work on my coffee breaks. Plus I keep some books like Creative License in my work bag so I have eye candy and pep talk whilst waiting for appointments. Thanks Teoh. Your voice and style has been so helpful for me. Merci from Vancouver island.

It's the journey 🎨 finishing a sketchbook shouldn't be goal oriented. Art is what it is. Thank you for sharing the message that sketchbooks are different for each artist.

I use sketch books to just draw free from my mine. Some are just a mess and some are not. Then when I want to do a proper painting, I flip through my book for inspiration and then develop that sketch more into a painting.

I use my sketchbooks to record scribbly ideas, sketch for final pieces (that I transfer onto watercolor paper etc using tracing paper), play with mediums I want to familiarize myself with, timed studies as well as entirely finished pieces sometimes, as my sketchbooks usually have perforated pages so they're easy to tear out of the book ^_^ I use the watercolor canson xl sketchbooks mostly (not the mixed media one), as the paper is thick and works well with most of my chosen mediums.
Having a sketchbook or 2 on the go at any given time has been an important part of my art process for years, I love them :D

I love using pen and ink in my sketchbook. I have a sketchbook for trying things out, a cheaper one I don't care as much about. Then I have better ones for better drawings ☺️

These Lorenzo books seem very interesting, I'll see if I can get my hand on them. Personnally I don't like loose sheets. I use most sketchbooks for finish pieces but lately I also try to get over my need to overwork a page by using cheaper sketchbooks for experimentations, thumbnails, etc

Right now I prefer sketchbooks over regular sheets of watercolor or plain flat paper. My sketch books have some tooth to them, i.e. Strathmore 400 series watercolor journal versus a regular hardbound sketch book. Much of what I do I start in pencil and follow up with a fountain pen. On occasion I finish the sketch with watercolor.

Teoh, I seem to have no rhyme or reason to my sketchbooks. I might have a simple pear on one page and a complex sketch of a building next. But too late for me to change now. 😁 Thanks for this video. 🌴Tallahassee, Florida 🌴

I have a sketchbook that I play around in, trying out new color combinations / styles / portraits / urban sketches etc. AND I also have a sketchbook that is more like a Visual Journal. I carry both, because sometimes I just want to play around with watercolors and ink and sometimes I have something specific I want to journal.

The tekkonkinkreet books are amazing! Every single drawing is an artwork in itself!
I just ordered a book from Ikeda Manabu for inspiration, it's very detail-oriented artworks, I have been in awe of his art for a while now.
As for sketchbooks I mostly draw "ugly" sketch ideas out of my mind or study specific objects/animals for my artworks. I always admire your dedication to sketchbooks, but I am too lazy for those ^^'
